RE: Palmer 132
nice choice Henrick but you wanted a large plane. Dark colors make it smaller and hard to see. good luck Mike

RE: Palmer 132
Hello to all ! The attached picture shows my second C 130 that includes the zero incidence elevator. Study the plan and make changes on parts affected before gluing or CA them. This one is ready for glassing which I will do afrter the 15 th of this month. The building time so far is less than added 60 days at about 6 hours per day. I barelly use the plans cause I know it by heart. I will be back with the finish look. Because the first one is the coast guard scheme the temptation to go Gun Ship scheme is very high, but then I think of those skies trying to take it away from me. Be back soon Mike

RE: Palmer 132" C-130 Build
Sorry, sorry and sorry again. Four postings finally got my attention and strenght to answer. I am no better than 3 weeks ago, not because of B C but because of post surgery infections. Yes with S at the end because I run into a chain of bacterias, one more stronger than the other. Sitting at the computer its a job by itself. This is all I am going to say. But I am convinced that I can.......are you ready ? ....... my second C 130 and finish it the gunship model with all the guns and their glories. How beautifull will that be to make a low pass and seeing them hanging over their windows. But as a service to you, you may take the following suggestions as you work on your plane. 1The elevator 2 deg negative is wrong. It should be zero. My plane needed 3/8 down elevator to fly leveled and then will land steep when power / speed / lift was reduced. I had to mix throtle with elevator so that at max T I would have the 3/8 down and at idle I was back in neutral. My 106 in Check molded C 130 has also a zero elevator. If you move your elevator to 3/8 down and unite the LE with TE you have the zero. This is the where Mister Herk is comfortable. That is a big mistake in the design. Well I am sorry again my friends and thanks for putting up with me My best Mike

RE: Palmer 132" C-130 Build
Got a flight yesteray Feb 25. Winds die down later on the day at measured 8-10 and gusts to 12. Major problem was the rotating direction of the wind so that I can lock on the correct landing vector. Fligth was flawles and lasted until my transmitter bell hit the 8 min flight time. Here is attached the Herk picture coming in with 20 plus deg flaps and a much more acceptable decent path and speed. It is indeed worth all the work, money and perspiration. As it is in life, nothing comes free. Tommorow I will have my 7 th in 6 years bladder cancer surgery. I can close my eyes anytime now and imagine this beautifull Herk flying across the blue skies. Finish yours, you will be very happy My best to all Mike

RE: Palmer 132" C-130 Build
here is something new : finally got a good day to fly my C 130 Coast Guard scheme some of you had seen it pictured above. Frank the Oltimer made the trip from Sarassota with two friends to see the event. My 4 cycles OS 70 lifted up that plane in less than 50 feet of run. Needed a bunch of down trim and leveled it was flying like a beautifull white bird. Just GREAT. Landing was very good although that down trim eat some of my up elevator and could not make the landing low and long . But nice landing. Something else to mention : it is little more difficult to make rigth turn may be because of the torq effect. lso I belive that Palmer numbers of stab 2 deg neg, wing 5 deg pos and zeo thrust on engines adds up correctly even if you move the cg between 28 - 30 % . His 4.62 in as per the plan altough approaches 30 % is still conservative. I will fly it next Monday at 32 %. If you have any comments or questions you are welcome. Mike

RE: Palmer 132" C-130 Build
If you know that you are going to be below 45 lbs total weigth including fuel a 60 2 cycle will do the job as long as the spec indicates a minimum of 0.9 hp torque. Some brand may do some may not. But reliability is not as high with 2 cycles compare to 4. The whole ideea is to select the minimum possible engine that 3 will fly the plane and if 4 th quits the transition is minimum or barely felt by the plane or you. ie. you are not beind taken by a storm or surprise and have time to realize what happen and hit the rudder. The "rigth small" size engine is advisable, yes a OS 70 4 cycles is on the upper side and the OS 52 is on lower. Not much choice. Yes a 61 2 cycle will be perfect from the power point of view but get the opnes that are most reliable. Your choice. Have a B25 with 2 61 on it plane by Wing mfgr flies great and the two engines sings to each other with the help of a JR match box. Boy they sound like two Rolls Royces Mike

RE: Palmer 132" C-130 Build
Ok Prop4ever here it is. Got at the field by 10 am and took may be 30 min to get the Herk together. Started the engines and with some practice of a cold run 3 guys hold the plane about 45 deg nose up. Two guys on the wings and one holding the tail down. Engine # 2 stopped. Put the plane down. Make engine reacher. Restart engine #2. Hold the plane up. Good run now but all of a sudden stoppred. Went the other leaning it. Bingo it work. Run the plane several times up in down. Excellent. Ready to make the first attempt to lift the nose up onle and at about 40 to 50 feet of running the nose came up with sligth elevator pressure. I put down and came back to agree with my guys to let it go. As I taxi back towards me I could not steering it cause as it happened the steering cacle let loose at the double eigth joint. So that was that cause I have to have the plane inverted to work underneath the nose. I will make another attempt and will advice. But big planes requires a good number of people to be on hand. Tonigth for dinner I am having a double portion of Advil and may be a drink with it cause at 72 you kinda hurt easy after a day like this. Hope you like the pictures and I am looking into how to show the video of the speed runs. If you know tell me Mike

RE: Palmer 132" C-130 Build
Hi Sam it is a Toyota Siena 2004. Plane fits perfect with the nose in between the seats the nose at my rigth elbow down on the floor and the stab tips almost 1/4 clearance from the lateral walls. The two tip wings with the fuel tanks and engines on it fits laying on the airfoil top surfave underneath and kind of to the sidaes of the fuselage. Two people to slide it in . Its a breeze. Now i said tha I am going to fly it last week and provide report. Tomorrow is the first day of below 10 mph and a 79 deg, so tomorrow is the day. Frank the Oltimer suppose to be here to watch the event but canceled cause of some personal problem. I will have photos and video plus a report. Initial ground test shows that the 4 of OS 70 with 12-8 props moves the plane to and estimated 30 mph take off speed which is pretty darn good More tomorrow evening Keep your fingers crossed Mike

RE: Palmer 132" C-130 Build
I ALSO LOOKED AT ELECTRIC VERSION AND HERE ARE TWO FACTORS TO REMEMBER. 1. TO GET PALMER ON THE AIR FOR ABOUT 3 MINUTES IT TAKES 4 LIPOS OF 5000 MAH EACH COSTING ABOUT $ 450 A PIECE. iF YOU FLY 100 DAYS EVERYDAY YOU WILL NEED TO SPEND $1800 EVERY 3 MONTHS. I JUST STOP FLYING JETS JUST BECAUSE OF THE LATER MIKE

Hello Frank, just finish painting my Herk and plan now to have it rolling and debug as necessary till I would decide to push the throtle and squeeze the elevator. I also would like to sell it if I will find someone interested. Pls see the attached pics Mike

RE: 101" C-130 arf
I think I mentioned that I have 14 fligths on mine with 4 engines of OS 30 each and the tanks that it came with it It flies great but fuel is only lasting 5 min at alternate throthel level. This is a problem for me and I do not see how you get 10 min run with a 40 size engine. I am planning to install a 40 cc tank in the fuse rigth over the CG pressurized from one of the mufflers and supply fuel to all prefilled tanks via manifolded tubing. This will be tested on the ground. I will let you know. Remember starting time for 4 engines, taxing to take off position and ground run time they all come from the same tank. Is interesting to know if the 40 size engine fitts over the supplied engine mounts. Can you clear this Thanks Mike
