RE: ziroli duantless build 09
I was planning to make a box to mount the engine also. Will the fill with weight. Splitzed have thought about your control rods for the elevator. Are you going per plans using 2 exiting out under the stab or try to hide internally. I am going to try to fab a T or some other engineering marvel to hide the linkage. Bryan

RE: top flite corsair build questions
Got the RCV adjusted finally! Idling down to 1500 and max to 5100 with the 3 blade! Finishing the cowl cuts ofr the muffler and I think I am going to just put a hole in the top for the starter. I'll post some picks! Getting ready to start on the ZIroli SBD. Just got back from the Wings over Houston Air Show. Great warbird collection there!

RE: ziroli duantless build 09
Great to see that someone else is attempting to build this beast. I gor one the box ready to start. This is my first "plan only" warbird. I just finished a TF corsair 60. Glassed and painted with gear doors and retracts. I have yhe dauntless kit form lazzer lizzard and a Zenoah GT 80 in the box also. I am kindof worried abaout not having an "instruction book" to follow along but its nice to have someone else attempting this plane. I a little confused on the ruddder and elevator linkage. I was wondering if just plain old robarart large scale hinges would work? Also I found a book that is supposed to be the "bible" of detail on the dauntless from areo publishing in Spain. I ordered one lets see if I actually get it! Good luck on your build![:D] http://www.aeronaval.net/theaircraft.html

RE: top flite corsair build questions
Joe, Thanks for the input on both post. I finally think I have this stress maker dialed in. I even put the 16x10 master air screw on and got it maxed to 5200 and even idled down to 1650! I only have a slight hesiatation going from idle to full throttle. I also found that my max throttle is slightly before full open on the carb. Is the hesiatation too lean or rich? Should I better just leave it alone? Thanks for the trick finding the right nedle points. I'm getting close to try to fly or crash this thing! I evev started it with my hand held starter from the front!

120SP idle question
I have just purchased a 120SP. Got it running on the bench with 1.5 gallons of Omega10. Engine is running ok at mid and high with little vibration. But, I am having trouble with the idle. At less that 2000 it wants to die. Dumb question but the instructions talk about adjusting the idle needle but where is it? Is it under the carb and is it the small flat head screw? Also, the instructions talk about the "secondary needle" under running in instuctions what is that? DO I need to break in more before I get good idle?

RE: top flite corsair build questions
Joe, My muffler finally exploded today[&o]. I lost the tap on the nipple and had to retap it and I welded the end on. I bought a flexible muffler tube this weekend and I think I am going to use it in the plane. I am frustrated now with the idle. I cannot get it idle below 1800 to 2000 without is trying to stop. I'm scared to mess with the needle too much since it runs great at mid and top. Dumb question but is the idle screw inside the bottom of the carb. Is it a reg screw needing a screw driver. Should I try to adjust it? Is it too rich?

RE: top flite corsair build questions
Joe, Fired up the 120SP! I ran 1 gallon of wildcat 10 and then started on omega 10. It is running smooth and had little vibration even at the start! It is finally idling around 1400-1500. Top rpm is 5400 with a 18x12 prop. I want to try a 16x10 master air 3 blade. Have you tried to start yours from the front? Mine seems to turn over fairly easy.

Joe, Your planes looks great. Man, that thing flew like a rocket! That crash scared the @#$ out of me but I was so glad you were able to reapir it so easily! Do you think mine would be easier to fly with the 90 versus the 120?

RE: top flite corsair build questions
Almost at the end![:D] But, I have a issue. I still need to paint the stars and bars and place a few decals. I just weighed what I have so far: Plane with reciever, battery, fuel tank and prop without engine is 8lbs 15oz. With rcv120 SP is 11lbs 3oz I have a new RCV 120SP but could I get away with a 90SP after fully completed. That sure would be nice!

RE: top flite corsair build questions
I think I'm going to buy a cheap ARF Corsair like the park zone and learn to fly it before I go out and wreck this money pit. I aleady have a 100" Ziroli dauntless waiting for me after I finish this Corsair. I got a short kit from lazer lizzard and all the sheet and stick balsa from Lone star balsa. Someone was dumping the cockpit kit, bomb release, canopy and retracts on ebay and I got that stuff for 200! Reading, this phane is supposed to be easly to fly and build. It doen't have any wheel bay doors. Lazzard lizzard has a stuka short kit for around 80 on ebay you ought to look at that!

RE: top flite corsair build questions
Joe Thanks for the info. I will try cutting a opening in the side. I was trying to mount the hinge on the inside of the well instead of through the side. I think your way will be better since it will allow the hinge higher clearance above the sheeting. Hanks again. I will post how it works.

RE: top flite corsair build questions
Joe I think that is a good idea. Tie that beast to a tree and see what trust you get. I bit you will be surprised! I was starting my gear doors last PM and trying to figure out the best way to do the hinges to produce the least amount of gap at the hinge side of the door. I got some sonic tronic hinges to try. What hinges did you use? It seems that the edge of the door will hit the sheeting of the wing on mine unless a have a big gap between the edge of the door and the sheeting.

RE: top flite corsair build questions
Hey Joe I got the wing totally glassed. Now starting on those crazy gear doors! Just finished cutting out the doors and started hinges. I placed the last piece of glass on the tail tonight. Did you glass your flaps and Ailerons or just cover with resin? What did you decide about the engine RCV or electric? I just got a 16 3blade master from tower. I thought I would try it and use a 18 2 blade for break in on my 120sp. i cannot believe I have been working on this silly thing for a year[:@] I have Ziroli Dauntless in the box waiting to start but I am learning alot about building before I start that monster! Plans call for a 12oz but if a 14oz fits go for it. Just make sure that you have enough room for some foam to wrap the tank to hold it in place.

RE: top flite corsair build questions
Joe That looks awsome. You did a great job! If I rember right this was your first glassing job also. You are a giving me a goal to reach with mine. I hope mine turns out half as good as yours. I just finished glassing my wing last night. I think it came out ok. I need to sand the fuse down and get it glassed too. I used EZ LAM and .75 cloth and it seems to work well. I tinking of xing the RCV muffler and building a more scale muffler out of copper tubing and splitting it to each side of the bottom fuse just behind the cowl. Kind of like I see on your plane. Reading it seems like a OS muffler mount will fit te rcv. Is this right? What a great job!

It has a get build from start to finish. I have restarted my 1/8 build and have just finished glassing the wing and I'm almost read to glass the fuse. I will help you where I can. Ask away!

Hey guys glad to see others are looking at the RCV engines. Joe, I guess you finally got your Corsair close to being finished. I too am close! I got the 120SP also because of the weight issue. I am trying to figure out the fuel issue. What are ya'll using and where did you get it? WHat would be a good cheap prop for break in? Joe do you have a post anywhere of you Corsair would love to see it!

RE: Ziroli - SBD Dauntless Build Thread #2
I am glad to see someone else taking on this beast. I have one setting in the box from lazzard also. I bought the cowl from Ziroli and found the retracts and full cockpit on ebay both for 150.00! I'm trying to finish a Corsair first before I start this monster so work out all the kinks for me. Does anyone know of a parts list for all the balsa sticks and stuff? Good luck!
