RE: EDF Predator UCAV from Nitro Planes
ugh. I typed a HUGE reply and the site timed out and lost all my typing. :-( I'll retype later.

RE: EDF reversing for air brakes
I never tried it, but how about throttle to throttle mixing set to a switch on the RX. at a certain point of throttle, and/or setting a switch, the throttle end point, or something would be set for negative? just a thought

RE: EDF Predator UCAV from Nitro Planes
ORIGINAL: Greg Covey My Nitro Predator UCAV was Ready-To-Fly at 8.5lbs. The empty plane weighed 100oz (6.25lbs) and my two 6s EON packs weighed 36oz (2.25lbs) together. The 3300 watt power system provides a powerful 390w/lb! I didn't bother finishing the decals or making it look pretty until I see it fly. My plan is to test fly it this weekend so I'll report back next week.
I wasn't sure if my 8lb 2oz 8S system was too heavy or not, but after seeing your 8.5lb plane, I feel better. I'm thinking of going from 2 3700mah packs to 2 4900mah packs.

RE: What is up with Easy Tiger Models?
HOLY CRAP. This is like a soap opera. "As the prop turns" lol I'm from the same field and a friend of Marks. I've seen the speaker wire used for an ESC, so I can vouch for that. I can also state for a fact that an "in stock" motor took 10 days to get to me. I can also say that I received no post-sales support on that motor either. He directed me to rcgroupsnice. Some say Curtis' rotten attitute is because he's from NJ/NY areaI'm from MA, but I don't treat everyone like crap. He's does not possess the people skills required in this business, nor the business sense to realize he usually only gets a customer "once", they don't come back after the first sour sale. Buyer beware, they say. I won't buy from him again.
ORIGINAL: b16a2sir Look at that... 2 sides to the story!!! I will not let this deter me away from ETM.. I havent ordered from them yet, but I won't make this thread stop me if I choose to in the future.
Happy with purchase/curtis? I've been researching (and made a purchase from curtis) and not happy with ETM. Slow delivery and poor customer service.
ORIGINAL: frisconick I just ordered the X-29 from Curtis; everything but the retracts. Should be here mid next week. I'll start a build thread on it. Thanks, Nick
You can avoid the middleman. Can't beat that. DW_Crash
I clicked on your HERO link, searched through 10 pages of crap and the only thing I found R/C related was GROUPNER models from. Germany.
Oopps a spelling error.....Try http://www.hero-model.com/ I just double check and they have the Sabre, X-29 and few other neat jets. DW_Crash
RE: EDF Predator UCAV from Nitro Planes
I used castle 6mm on ESC and then used Deans ultra 12AWG wire with 4mm to motor. Should be good enough for 8S (will use 10awg to make serial Y for two packs).

RE: EDF Predator UCAV from Nitro Planes
Has anyone thought about lowering the elevevators to a normal 90 degree position and adding a rudder (even if a nonfunctional rudder)? Bet it would fly/handle a LOT better. It would take very little work to lower angle of elevators (drill or dremel would do it), and adding a rudder wouldn't be much more work than that either. I'd be willing to try if anyone knows where I can buy/find a rudder to throw on top Almost like the starfire - it has same tail shape to some extent. Actually, I'm wondering if the starfire rudder would be pretty scale if I put it on the predator? Should be close as it looks oversized for the starfire. I'm not sure where to order a rudder only but I bet that would work :-)

RE: EDF Predator UCAV from Nitro Planes
Greg, Looks like your battery pack wires are 10awg, or maybe 12awg? What is your serial connector for the two packs? i.e. 10awg? And what about your wires from ESC to motor? I see 4mm bullets on this forum, but nothing about wires.

Greg, Did you find better landing gear, and have you added ducts?

Those ESC's are junk. I've seen/heard too many bad things about them; especially at 8S.

RE: EDF Predator UCAV from Nitro Planes
Hi, Just picked up the blue one. Was tempted to save $15 and get the came version. But I personally think the blue is nicer and and personally blue/red are easier for me to see in the air. Plus, I found a 10% off coupon and save even more [:D] Great 90/100m starter jetI'm hoping. I have some 120mph foamies, but this will be a nice entry into fiberglass. I saw several mods that I plan on doing including ducts, landing gear block, etc. A few questions still remain: 1) I saw that HS-81's were used in one thread. What i recommended all around? All HS81 (mg version or regular)? 2) In all videos' it looks like tail just about hits the ground to maintain landing glide slope. Any issues hitting ground? 3) Some videos look like wings rocking too much. I'm guessing EXPO of 30 to 40% or more needed? 4) Is tail considered a V-tail as far as transmitter is concerned? or treat as regular elevator? 5) Someone mentioned they glued wings on for strength. Are some using silicone for easy removal? 6) I have a free Castle HV80 ICE and 10A CC BEC (was beta tester). I noticed directions recommended 85A and some here are recommending 110A. Since I have 80A HV ESC for free, will that be ok? Cutoff shows it is good til 120A. I'd like to run this as 8S so I can use 4S1P batteries that I already have. i.e. TL of 4 packs. (2) of them in series x 2, and those two in parallel giving me 8S 4300mah at 25C. If not, I could get 6S Rhinos, but using 4S would mean I can use same batts for all my other planes which are 4S. :-) 7) I noticed a lot of CG issues. Is it better to get a 90mm and stuff further in tail, or add tail weight and get a 101mm fan? I'm thinking a 90mm won't be enough performance. I'd like somewhere between 80mph and 120mph; possible?

RE: New Losi Speed T is out
I've been using 100% out of back with 7.2v 2000mah for hours no problem. I updated to profile 1, threw in a TP2100 11.1v and the thing was a rocketfor 15 minutes before it blew out a differential. I'm long-time RC plane guy, but new to rc cars. However, after reading posts, and talking to support, I suspect two, maybe three things (including week/cheap diff gear design): 1. Slipper is too tight (my assessment as all coils were touching-don't think factory backed off 2.25 turns). 2. Lipo should be geared down a little (way too much current/power for 20 and 88 gear/spur). 3. There are three screws that hold the transmission case together. Two of those screws have two washers each. The third screw with just one washer, was barely tight. Support did not mention that screw in particular, but did say to check for a loose screw. How coincidental. I also noticed some plastic shaved away from the case near metal gearI'm guessing from slop from loose screw. There was plenty of plastic shavings from the stripped dif gear in there too.
