Automotive Hang Gliding
I missed a business breakfast this morning for reasons that will soon be apparant. I sent the following e-mail to the host in apology for missing it. ---------------------------- Cyd, Over the years, I'm sure you've heard many reasons for someone having missed a breakfast, but this promises to be memorable. Last night, my wife invited a co-worker for a quick BBQ dinner after a concert (she's a musician). Some time around 11:30, while attempting to navigate my driveway in the dark, her friend drove off...no...more like "plummeted" off the pavement in an area where there is a six to seven foot drop off onto rocks. Thankfully, she was wearing her seatbelt, which was fortunate, because she didn't have time to deploy her parachute. She walked away without a scratch to her person, which is more than I can say for her car or her pride. We called a tow company, who's driver took quite a while to wake up, arrive at the house, finish laughing, and pull the car back up onto the runway, err, driveway. The police took a report for insurance purposes, and did not issue any summons, which is puzzling, since to the best of my knowledge, she does not possess a pilot's license. The car was not driveable, and so we drove her home. It was well after 4 A.M. before I landed in bed. So, while there was no alcohol involved, you could say that I was sleeping off an "over-hang", which is why I missed breakfast this morning. I've attached a photo for your amusement, and for the benefit of my employer, lest she think I've gone over the deep edge. In all seriousness, I am very interested in gaining some insight on today's topic. If it would be possible for you to share the contact information of those in attendance, I'd like to call them and discuss the issue while it's fresh in their minds. Alternatively, please feel free to forward my contact information contained herein (perhaps they'd enjoy reading this cliffhanger as well). I apologize for my somewhat injudicious attempts at humor, but if you look at the attached photo, I'm sure you'll agree that the gravity of the situation seemed to cry out for levity. Thank you for the invite, and my sincere apologies for having missed it. Kind Regards, Michael de Nigris Vice President, Corporate Applications

RE: high wing cessna versus
I've always flown low-wings, so I prefer them. I currently own a Saratoga TC. My friends on the other side of the argument like to ask me if I've ever seen a bird with it's wings on the bottom!?

Kyosho CAP 232 Arrived.
Yes, sadly, you do have to cut and sand it. Make sure you get the hieght right. Too low and you wont be able to attach the servo rods, too high and the covers will not fit.

That's amazing. How come the BIG crash is always the last flight of the day. :stupid: Along the lines of "...it was in the LAST place I looked!" Did ya ever keep looking after you found it! :D

Best scale photo!
HEY! GPUTT! your antenna is showing!!! WHATS WRONG WITH YOU?!?!? Don't you know this is supposed to be about SCALE looking aircraft!!???!!?? Geezz, I don't know what's with you bozos. Mustang's told you a hundred, no, a THOUSAND times - SCALE SCALE SCALE. Cant you even read simple DIRECTIONS??? It's amazing that any of you shallow gene pool, stubborn mule, insubordinate yahoos can even get an airplane off the ground! NO ANTENNAS, NO GIANT FEET, NO CRAPPY LOOKING AIRPLANES, NO GARAGES, NO BASEMENTS, NO SIDEWALKS, PETS, SPIDERS, INSECTS, 6FT GRASS, AND NOTHING WE (mustang and I) DON'T LIKE. Basically, if a team of photographic technicians, aerodynamic engineers, and combat veteran-airline captain-stunt pilot-hero types (or Mustang) can prove in less than one week that the subject aircraft is not scale, you have BLOWN IT! Get it??? You should all sell your RC gear, unplug your computers and seek some counseling before you hurt someone. Above all else, don't spread those sub-par genes around like some bumbling idiot at an airport with a mutant SARS-Monkey-pocs disease. ARGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH! I gotta go take my lithium. :) - Sorry Mustang; I just felt we were over due for another meltdown and I figured you were getting tired of it. ;) Great thread and to all you picture posters. WOW! Nice work.

Crosswind approach to landing.
Flying cross controled all the way in could be easier than trying to pop out of a crab at low altitude. Use the rudder to keep the nose pointed down the runway, and aileron for drift.

Stall Strips
Originally posted by Tall Paul . No I'm not!
Yea you are! :D Harry - if you've got duel aileron servos, flaps will reduce the stall speed.

Stall Strips
Stall strips increase the stall speed. They are used (usually on tapered wings) to create turbulence on the leading edge and cause the wing root to stall before the tips do, thereby maintaining aileron control in the stall. Tall Paul - You are thinking of stall warning indicators which are designed to trip before reaching critical angle of attack.

Shot Down .....What should I do ?
This is a tough call, but why don't you have the kid sign a long term note? You can file it with the town. Get his SS# and enough information to find him later. He can pay you back or start making payments when's he out of school and working. Im sure you'll be in the hobby for a long while, and this way you can give the kid a break now without having to feel like a sucker.

What annoys you most?!
I have to agree with bbbair. These guys sometimes grab a tool and start tweaking your engine every time you're trying to solve a problem. They don't even take a minute to talk to you and discover that you know what you're doing. I was tuning an engine once and this guy comes over with a screwdriver while I'm running it up and starts turning the low end mixture. I had spent a half hour getting it perfect! Turns to me and says, "I think it was a little lean." I was PISSED. Told him that I though HE was running a little lean, if ya know what I'm saying.

There was a guy named Jack who flew (badly) at my brothers club in AL. He had an Avistar that was more glue and patches then wood and covering. His fellow club members dubbed it the "Avi-Jacko" :P
