RE: PICS OF YOUR AIRBOATS
soem of you have seen thie before. I call it the Hull Force. it has a 1.08 is 42" long and 21" wide. its a bit overbuilt and im sure could survive a full speed impact with a wall, but shes super stable at any speed. WOT is very controllable.

RE: Dark Impact - Lunchboxer style..
i have been to the track a couple time already, and it doesnt dig in at all, i even lawn darted the thing a couple times, and the bumper is so elastic that is made the car bounce back on all 4 tires. i would say this bumper is great for racing and bashing. once i get the hang of this thing in the air, i think i will cut the bumpers off, and just retain the skids for the bottom of the chassis. i have the spring kit for this thing, cant remember which ones i have on there now, but they seems to work well for me.

RE: Dark Impact - Lunchboxer style..
well the servo has 120 oz of torque, or something close, it is also really fast, and digital. meets all my requirements. i went tot he track last night, the servo arm could def be shorter, and i think i will set tht up this weekend. it almost interferes with the body, but i just needed to move some wires around and it all worked fine all night at the track.

RE: Dark Impact - Lunchboxer style..
that looks great man. pretty cool. the steering arm is definately in a test form now. i had to turn the dual rate all the way down so that i wasnt over stressing the servo at the end of the steering motion. i think i can move the attachment point at least half way down that arms that is on there and still be fine. i am always just used to aircraft where a lot of throw is always needed. i am going to drill some other mounting hold further down the custom arm and test out which one gets me closest to the top plate without hitting it. then when i get it right i am going to make one out of CF.

RE: Dark Impact - Lunchboxer style..
well here are some close ups of the radio installation. the wires actually look a lot cleaner in person. its just not a very photogenic car...:batman: i have the esc taped down, and i cut the sticker off the bottom of the esc so that i was actually sticking the esc down and not the sticker. as you can see i have the stock Suspension Arms installed for testing at the track. i also have some Hole Shots on white dish wheels for track use. the stock ones will be used for bashing only. you can also see the new control arm for the steering servo. this is just a temporary template from some 1/8th Aluminum, i will be making one from carbon once i figure out how this one works. you can also see in the pic how the battery is so much taller than the stock posts. i will be making some battery trays from some 3.5 mm CF that i have to keep them in place. I am also on the lookout for some taller posts for the battery straps. sorry for the fuzz, i had macro on, but its a 7 year old camera with the choices of bodies out there, i may just try to get a grasshopper body or something like that. really screw with the guys at the track when i am keeping up with the 1/8ths with a grasshopper. i have also thought about selling my setup and just getting a 1/10th chassis that is proven, but i ahvent even had this one on the track yet, so i will have to give it a go for at least a couple months until i try to scrap it...

RE: Dark Impact - Lunchboxer style..
well, i got the steering all worked out. just had to move the servo to the other side of the mounting tabs. now i have a proper angle for steering. the servo arm was being used just because i dont have a JR servo saver at the moment. once i get one, i will have to mount an extension on the saver so that it will clear the top plate of the chassis. should be pretty easy though. here are some pics. this was the before pic! the test will come tonight. the hardest thing is going to be sealing the chassis to help keep dirt out... i dont think i will be able to do that at all though.

RE: Dark Impact - Lunchboxer style..
OOOHHHH[:D] duh. that would be much easier to accomplish. would have to make sure it wouldnt come in contact with the top plate if its moved, but there are two mounting positions, i already have it on the inner most postion, but maybe by changing it around as you suggested i can get the desired angle!

RE: Dark Impact - Lunchboxer style..
hmmm, let me see if i can picture this in my head. do you mean just flip the servo so the arm is facing the other way? of just moving the servo mounting blocks more tot he left to move the servo more to the left? i think that might work, but i would have to drill holes in my beautiful chassis. i think that idea would work well though. the stand offs i have on the servo arm would need a little work, but i think i could get them to the correct angle.

RE: Dark Impact - Lunchboxer style..
here are some updates... its coming along slowly now that i am realizing some parts i need. i have some pics of the servo mounted on its side. i have a servo saver to put on there, but the arm was just used so i could fir the stand offs. check it out. the shock mounts. i used traxxas 6.8mm balls, and then put the washer on there to hold them in place you can see the 4600 in there. its hard to tell, but you can see the near side of the cutout is more rounded off because that is where i had to dremel it to get the motor to fit. i also had to grind down the bumper so it was not a square corner that would collect lots of dirt. better at a taper i think. RE: My SI3....All about SPEED
dadkins, from seeing these boats in person a couple times, they really dony have much room inside the hull to mount the equipment. the radio box also probably has a large effect onth e aerodynamics of the whole system, providing sufficient down force at high speeds. there was some people out there smoothing the box over some, making it a curved assembly. maybe that would work better.

RE: Official Dark Impact Thread
here are some more completed pics. I had a couple hick-ups in the building. i found out that i wont be able to use the lay down servo mounts successfully. the servo saver comes in contact with the bottom pate. wil have to she if i can get a different servo saver. gotta find some ball studs to mount the shocks. the bottom ball mounts are bigger than the stock tamiya mounts. Does anyone know what size ball mounts i can use in there? I also need to get a couple more turnbuckles for the steering links, and for the servo, since it so much closer to steering assembly. some pics for those who like to look at pics. and in this pic, you can see how i had to cut down the stock tamiya ball cups inorder to make the hard tamiya turnbuckles fit.

RE: Dark Impact - Lunchboxer style..
(Lunch) i think i meant slop, not slope. just less rattling of parts. either way. it should hinder performance at all. probably just using a hitec. i have a digital servo laying around somewhere. looking to buy some SMC saddle packs for this next week. (86...) CA already run around the edges! dont know if i will use the see through parts, they have been known to be a weaker plastic

RE: Dark Impact - Lunchboxer style..
i wasnt sure why it would be needed either. the only thing i could think of is that it will solve any problems with slop in the driveline. one cool thing about this chassis. if you look at one of the pics of the front you will notice it came with some servo mounts that will allow you to lay the servo down directly behind the front gear box assembly. i thought this was rather nice for lowering the CG, and also allowing the body to sit very low.
