RE: F-5/F-20 Skymaster x Feibao x Jetleng
ORIGINAL: IFlyEm35 I have no idea what your background is in R/C or what your skill/experience level is. But I can tell you, coming from a boomerang myself, that the Boomers can teach you a lot of bad habits that will become maginfied by a scale jet. I would recommend, if you aren't already, to set up your Boomerang with a fairly aggressive crow set up so you can start using the throttle more on landing. Boomers are one of the easiest planes I have ever landed. An F-5 is on the other end of the spectrum. Not extremely hard, but much more ''jet like'' than the Boomers. If you can swing it I would seriously consider the Flash. It's a real nice stepping stone between the Boomerang and a good flying scale jet. You already have the turbine. You could always pull it out later and sell the Flash (you probably won't once you fly one ;-D) but it's an option. Also what size is your field? You'd be surprised how much runway you will use as you are getting some of the scale jets figured out.
I have flow a Sprint for one year and have also one year in the Elan. Total of 150 flights. I know I'm in the opposite end so this is the reason I'm here in the RCU. All the reports here making me to think deeply. I also like the Ultraflash. Talking about runway my club has a 600 feet paved runway. It might enough for all jets we are discussing here. Thanks to all of you buddies for the advices.

F-5/F-20 Skymaster x Feibao x Jetleng
I fly a Boomerang Elan for one and a half year and I'm thinking about my first scale jet. I have a passion for the F-5 but it's a jet not so much easy to see around or find information in the forums. Can somebody tell me any info about them like flying caracteristics, scale dentails, overhall quality. I have a Jets-munt Merlin 140 and I intend to use it. Regards

RE: KINGTECH X JETCAT X JETCENTRAL X WREN
Jose, I own a Wren 100 that I simply love. I started thinking about to buy a 14kg/31lbs turbine a few months ago to upgrade the thurst of my Elan and was seriously considering a K-140 or a K-170. Them I've heard about the Wren 140. Now I will wait until end of 2012. Regards,

RE: Futaba GYA351 setup help?
Gary, I'm not pretty sure the 351 and 352 has been discontinued. It seems they are only sold in asia and Europe. I have never seem those gyros being announced in US stores. They still appears in the Futaba japenese website. http://www.rc.futaba.co.jp/english/gyro/index.html

Where is the French CAPs
I just took a look in Towerhobbies website and noted Greatplanes discontinued their 100cc CAP 580. I can't see any CAP in the 20~50 cc range in the marked today. It seems the marked only has eyes for Extras... What is happening?

RE: Futaba GYA351 setup help?
ORIGINAL: Craig B.
The 352 has the elevon mixer built in. The 351 does not.
Incorrect...you have it the wrong way around. It is the 351 that has the elevon/ flaperon dual channel capability. The 352 is a dual axis (hence the 2 in the last digit position) but single channel gyro that does not have elevon mixing in it. I have several of both operating in jets atm.
Craig, I agree with you about 351 beeing able to control flaperons, elevons, ailevator, etc since it is a single axis but dual channel gyro. However the 352 can also control elevons because it has such feature (built in). Just turn a switch in the gyro and it will work as a single axis and each gyro outler will feed one elevon. This is stated in the 352 manual (http://manuals.hobbico.com/fut/gya352-manual.pdf). Mucio

RE: Elan Has Arrived!
ORIGINAL: mtnflyer14 This question was asked about ten pages back, but never answered: Where do the small (approx 1'' X 1'') hardwood blocks go? I think two of them have a small notch cut out. They were in the same bag as the infamous doubler. Regards, Gus
Their purpose is to replace some plastic servo trays. The servo trays, as they come, requires dual receiver channels for aileron e elevator and Y harness for rudder and flaps. By using the wooden tray/block you can use Y harness for aileron and/or elevator.
ORIGINAL: quist
ORIGINAL: mjunior
ORIGINAL: quist No you need the GYA352 for a delta wing. It is a dual axis gyro.
Dear quist, Sorry for asking but are you sure? A delta wing aircraft uses elevons requiring one elevon conected to one reciever slot and other elevon conected to a different receiver slot. This is a similar approach of an aircraft with flaperons

RE: Which turbine?
As a gentleman said above, there are several excelent good bransds today. I would put in my start list the following ones: Jet Cat, Jet Central, Wren, AMT, Jet-Munts, Kingtech. A decision now would consider thrust/weight ratio (for 3D flight purpose), dealer/service, acquisition/servicing cost. Wren turbines requires bearings change/check at every 50 hours while all other brands require at 25. I like that feature. By the way I have experience with a Wren 100. 22 hours on it, incredibly reliable, light, excellent throtle response and good fuel comsunption. However, extremily noisy. But for your needs you would have to wait for the new Wren 180.

RE: BOOMERANG ELAN - New Build & Setup Thread!
ORIGINAL: Charlie H. HI Guys Has anybody set up a Elan yet with the P-100 ? Was wondering about the the equipment layout for the CG. I'm stepping up from my Sprint to the Elan. Thanks Charlie
Charlie, I did it with a Wren 100 which has the same size of a P-100 but has more ancilaries. I posted a few pics in the thread in previous pages. There is also pictures in a portuguese language forum (http://www.e-voo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=132082). I also installed a smoke system. I also moved from a Sprint to an Elan and I can tell you that there is a lots of space in the Elan for a P-100. Mucio

RE: Elan Has Arrived!
ORIGINAL: jblloyd I know this has been addressed somewhere in this thread but I can't seem to find it so I'll ask it again ... I am using DreamworksRC Pro-Link landing gear in my Elan.  The nose gear seems to be a little short and, although I have added a 1/2'' shim under it, I am still about 1 1/2'' from being level.  The plane seems to take a longer time to get to speed and rotate than other Elans that I have seen.  Do most of you fly with negative incidence in the nose?  I would like to have it level but adding another 1 1/2'' under the gear will just about bring the gear outside of the fuselage.
jblloyd, Sounds strange your nose leg seems so short. My Elan has rotart straight struts and is a bit nose down when fuel tank is empty. After refueling is stays leveled. Have you checked if your nose strut has the right length. Dreamworks website has the dimensions. Another check you can do is how close is the nose wheel from the steering servo. Mine almost touch the servo when retracted. There another thread here (http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_9883219/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm) and pictures of my assembly is from page 6 and on. A have also posted my assembly in portuguese language (http://www.e-voo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=132082&start=125&postdays=&postorder=asc&highlight=). You can see how can my Elan stays on ground at the end of this video. http://youtu.be/drUC3fIdL-4

RE: Where do I put my gyro?
ORIGINAL: megafly Yes Erbroens, you are right, sorry if I didn't explained correct. But what HarryC told is true, ''fly first'', but I think I'm goind to put the gyro in the aileron, the L-39 has a short wing.
Megafly, Usually in full scale aircraft the first 'surface control' subjected to gain control is the rudder/yaw. The second would be the elevators e maybe roll would be the last. Do it right, fly it first and observe. Mucio
ORIGINAL: Lil Hoss Thanks for replying Mike As I said my buddy flies the Torus. He is vented out the rear and his looks worst than mine. It really isn't a big deal....... It's only cosmetic,,,, Take care Mike Hoss
My winter project is fly, fly and fly... Thanks God [:D]

RE: BOOMERANG ELAN - New Build & Setup Thread!
I hung up mine also upside down in the booms. If I move the CG far than it is today (and possibly remove the shim) it will not stay leveled on ground.... In fact the trailing links help to keep it leveled on ground.

RE: BOOMERANG ELAN - New Build & Setup Thread!
ORIGINAL: BaldEagel I know that is what you have, I just wondered how you found it as you where flying, did you feel it was nose heavy or tail heavy? I moved the C of G a long way back from the recommended, in fact the tail sat on the ground and did not move back onto the main wheel, this I found the be the sweet spot for me. Mike
Mike, After finished it was balanced at 25cm. I flew twice and no problems but lots of trim up. Then I added some few weight to the booms (around 50 grams) and then the CG moved to 24cm. Also added a 2mm shim to the backwards horizontal stab screw. I flew it again and it remained good and no more trim up. Mucio Now the movie is ok http://youtu.be/drUC3fIdL-4
ORIGINAL: BaldEagel Mucio Congratulations on a successful flight, how was your C of G setting? Mike
Mike, It is around 24cm from TE. Since I have straight main struts, without fuel my Elan almost 'sits on ground' over the main landing gear. Mucio
