Ok I shaped the tail like and extra and added the counterbalance for looks. Thanks for the suggestion. I also had a little time this week with the great cool weather to get some work done on my Four Star. I have attached a few pictures of what I have done thus far. Let me know what you think. Have a great week. Mark.

RE: Sig Four Star .40 Build Thread!!!!!!!!
Hello friends, I have been working a little bit on this plane. With two months of 100 degree weather here is SA it has been hard to find time to bake in the shop. Anyways here are a couple pictures that I took. I added an inch to the rudder but I still need to add some curves to it. Also added a tank and got the landing gear panted up to match my RED AND WHITE theme. Sorry but yes I am using econokote I am on a budget. Anyways I hope to start covering this bad boy tonight. Get a pilot and wait till I can afford a new flight pack. Thanks for following. Mark

RE: Sig Four Star .40 Build Thread!!!!!!!!
All, Thanks for the compliments on my test stand. I needed something quick and that was the best solution I could come up with. Also I am on my way to the hobby shop to pick up all of the last parts that I need. I am also hopefully going to pick up some monokote. Unfortunately I don't have the money for a new flight pack right now but that will come soon. So I want to get it completely ready for radio installation. Lastly I agree lets keep it simple I know that the mods will look good. Just my opinion! Have a great weekend.

RE: Sig Four Star .40 Build Thread!!!!!!!!
I got my Aviastar .46 in the mail yesterday.... YIPPY. Out of the box I was very impressed. The only that I did not like is that it did not come with a muffler gasket and I had to make one. Yes I know I am being picking but hey. Anyways I through an engine mount together least night and let the concrete harden over night. Today I installed the motor and tank. I ran through the break in as the plan stated. I ran the motor very rich for five minutes and let it cool down for 10. I did this four times. I must mentioned that as sloppy and rick as the engine was running it never died. I will give it the ultimate test tomorrow and start leaning it out a little. So far I am very very very happy with my $49.99 .46 motor. Mark

RE: Sig Four Star .40 Build Thread!!!!!!!!
Me Again, Here are a few more pictures of things that I have done. 1) Landing Gear block was mounted and had gussets installed ti beef it up a little. Also I went ahead and kept the three blind nut idea but instead I found some nylon screws to use instead of the metal screws. If the landing gets that hard I rather rip the gear off than the gear block. 2) I added a 1/2 in area to the tail for additional throw. Do you think I should add counter balances too or not? 3) I got a new tail assembly and 1 in wheel and a new Hayes 8 oz tank. I like this tank because you dont have to bend vent tubes and it already has a third line installed for filling. Hope you enjoy. Oh one last thing. I have a roll of cream monokote left so I think I will use it with my 4*. But what other color should I use? I am torn between maroon red or forest green. Suggestions? Thanks Again Mark

RE: Sig Four Star .40 Build Thread!!!!!!!!
Hello All, I have been M.I.A but I have in fact been building a little. Attached are a few pics of what I have been working on. First I got the tank compartment all fuel proofed and sealed up! I kind of wish I would have made a hatch for the tank but with the tank I got it will be really easy to remove if I need to. Next I got the wing hold downs mounted and add a littlle gusset behind the bulkhead because everyone said that this was a week area of the plane. So Far so good! I purchased a Aviastar .46 engine from Sig yesterday!!! All reviews were pretty good all said that they have a lot of torque and power and not to mention it was only 49.00. Anyways keep following I will continue to post pictures of my progress. Thanks Mark

RE: My First Plane
WOW! I love that plane. This was my first plane also some 12 years ago!!! I had the blue and yellow one! I flew the heck out of it. An old friend taught me how to fly in about a month of frequent flying. Anyways enjoy it and take your time learning the right way don't destroy it and you will have many years of fun instead of a bad crash taste in your mouth. Mark

RE: Sig Four Star .40 Build Thread!!!!!!!!
Hey, I wanted to post a couple pictures of what is next for me. If you see on the photo the channel where the landing gear fit will obviously not really be sufficient for support in my eyes. So I plan on beefing it up a little with some angle stock and epoxy. Also I took a picture of where the wing mounts will be glued. I will again be beefing this area up also. I know everyone says build to fly and not to crash but I always build for the occasional rough landing or hot dogging. Hope you enjoy the photos. I will keep you posted. Mark

RE: Sig Four Star .40 Build Thread!!!!!!!!
All, Thank You very much for the comments. I am going to go ahead and stick with the ST GS .40. I will also look into getting a new tail wheel setup because I love to do my touch and goes and would hate to wear out the rudder. Well here are a couple pictures of what I was able to get done last night. Last night was really cool temp wise and allowed for a couple hours of work. Got to love this kit because everything is already pre cut and like a puzzle to put together. This is my second sig kit and I have really enjoyed both. Anyways let me know what you think. Mark

Hey all, Just wanted to let everyone know that I will putting this build on hold. The SAN ANTONIO heat is just killing us here. We are around 100-110 now and my workshop/shed is too damn hot!!!! I am currently moving all my planes hanging up in there to the house because I am sure that the heat cannot be good for them. Pleas check back often if we get some rain and some cool weather come through here I will hit it. Thanks for understanding. Mark

Hey guys, Thanks for the comments I think I will stick with the GS-40. Again I am not looking to do anything crazy. I will keep you guys posted on my progress. Also one more question for you guys. On the sig website they advertise a motor for the four star. Has anyone had any experience with a Aviastar .46 or .53 two stroke? Here are some links. http://sigmfg.com/cgi-bin/dpsmart.exe/DetailProduct.html?L+Sig+hgpx1659+_Dimagefile_02AVI46_2ehtml_01uzup_02N_01num_02AVI46_01 or http://sigmfg.com/cgi-bin/dpsmart.exe/DetailProduct.html?L+Sig+hgpx1659+_Dimagefile_02AVI53_2ehtml_01uzup_02N_01num_02AVI53_01

RE: 3 CH Simple Scratch built trainer ! HELP
Hello again, Here are a few pics of the finished product. I flew it and wow did she shoot out like a rocket. The electrics would go vertical at about half throttle. However there was only one problem that I had. The ailerons had hardly any responsiveness to them. If it was not for the rudder I would have probably crashed this thing. So I have not flown it since. So finally last night I removed the ailerons and covered some stock ailerons in white that are about double the depth of the other ones. Hopefully this will give me a little more throw with it without having to much. Anyways I will get some pics and get it in the air as soon as this San Antonio wind calms down. Have a great day! Mark

RE: Sig Four Star .40 Build Thread!!!!!!!!
Me again, I also started on the fuselage. Let me say that this probably the easiest kit I have seen ever. All the parts are laser cut and fit just like a puzzle. Anyways here are a couple pics of what I have gotten so far. Any suggestions of ideas would be great. Also by the way I am going really cheap on this plane but would a Super Tigre GS-40 for 49.99 be enough power for this plane. I know it will pull it but will I be wishing for more. I am not looking for 3d just normal roll ands loop are fine. After all the take offs and landings are the fun part anyways right. Let me know what you think. Mark

Hello All, I have actually been working on my Four Star but I have been having a few cpu problems that seem to be fixed now. Anyways here is what I have gotten done the last couple weeks. I was able to get the wing 100% minus covering. I decided not to go with the dual ailerons no reason just did not. Probably should have but I have no worries about the handling anways. Anyways please stayed tuned for more progress. Mark

RE: 1/2A trainer anyone?
I got it done. Very easy and fun to build to take to the park. However I flew it twice and it was crazy fast and hard to control. I think the control surfaces are to small on the aileron and also I have no dihedral so that may be messing it up. Anyway i will figure it out soon. Let me know what you think. Mark
