RE: YS 1.40L/ Aerial prop combination?
I ran a 17 x 8 on my Storm, which has a small frontal cross section then most of todays models. Barely had the ground clearance for it, but it slowed the plane down and had great braking effect in the verticals.

RE: Engine mount
Not sure exactly which mounts you have in there, but it does appear you are missing some parts. Here is a pic of the Dave Brown mounts for a 4 stroke. It is available at central hobbies. I have a plane that had a YS 140 mounted on wood rails with this style of mount, but it kept breaking the mounts due to rotational stresses. It's not so much the vibration but the rotational effect the YS engines exert when they shake that these type of mounts are not designed to handle.

Chuck, if you put New Berlin on MAY 19th & 20th it conflicts with the Alberque NM contest. Although they are pretty far apart it is in District 6.

Chuck, looking at your dates above; Georgetown June 30 & 31 - June only has 30 days, would it be June 30 and July 1st? And the dates listed above for Katy Tx april 20th and may 1st is a Monday and Tuesday.

RE: How the
At each contest I have attended, I have seen competitors with top of the line planes and equipment from top to bottom, just having the top of the line equipment didn't put them on top. Some wins, some looses. In most cases it's the best pilot. Considering the time and effort I put into my pattern plane triming and working on getting it to fly the best it can, so that I can fly the best I can, I would not compete in a claiming event. If someone claims the plane then what, your out for the rest of the season? That would actually increase the cost of competiting as you would need multiple planes, ready to go in case someone claimed your plane. If you do the research, you will generally find that the guy who spends the most time, triming, practicing, and getting to know his equipment will come out on or near the top pretty often. I firmly believe the effort you put into it makes the difference. I started flying pattern with a Kaos, had fun and took a few trophies (though not a first). Moving to a better pattern plane improved my flying some but I still got beat by guy's with less pricey not so precise planes. Fly what you have, look for a good used plane, and work toward improving your skills and abilities. This brings up the question, as a judge, do you give better scores to the guy with the top of the line equipment as compared to someone with less quality equipment?

RE: Have You Flown an RC Model Under the Influence of Alcohol?
No, but I have participated in a contest were we had to eat a pack of crackers, then whistle, then start your plane and take off. It was a timed event to see who could do it the fastest.

RE: YS 1.40L sensitive needle
Had the engine torn down and reassembled, found a leak on a fuel tubing fitting on th eback of the engine. Reassembled and it ran great on the bench. Put it back in the model and 2 flights later it ran lean and RPM sagged. Pulled it out and put back on the bench, it ran perfect. upon installing back in the plane I pulled the fuel filter out and it ran great. The filter was a crap trap and does not appear to be plugged nor did any trash come out of it. My engine guru informed me that they have similiar issues on other YS engines with a crap trap and seem to think it restricts the fuel flow causing the engine to run lean. It's sure is runniing great now.

AMA RC Pattern weight limit allowance
AMA rules state "<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 10pt; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA">4.3: Weight and Size: <span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 10pt; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA">No model may weigh more than 5000 grams gross, excluding fuel, ready for takeoff. Electric models are weighed with batteries. In Sportsman, Intermediate and Advanced an allowance of 115 grams is permitted." Does this mean if you are flying in Intermediate at the Nats, you are legal and allowed to fly up to 5115grams? I would assume the 50 g allowance would not apply since they should have calibration weights on location at the Nats. However if calibration weights were not on site, would the 50 gram allowance add to that weight so that a 5165 gram would be allowed to fly, in Intermediate or advanced? "<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 10pt; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA">If no calibration system is available for the scales, a tolerance of 50 grams will be allowed for possible inaccuracies in the measurement instrument.

Installing a pressure tap on a 3W75
I am installing a B&B smoke system on my 27% extra. The 3W75 gas engine does not have a pressure tap on the crankcase. Has anyone added a pressure tap to run a smoke pump? If so any info on the install would be appreciated. There does not appear to be a prepared spot on the housing to drill and tap like on a glow engine. Is there a preferable spot to put the tap on a gas engine, would center on the back plate work?

You missed a great one, the winds were so calm we almost didn't know how to fly. Wind was calm to 5 mph on friday and sat, and only picked up to 5 to 10 on Sunday. Just enough breeze to keep it compfortable. Sky was clear blue, temputure was perfect.

If it get's better then that we couldn't stand it. Winds are predicted to be 0 to 5 knots from the south Friday and Saturday, 5-10 knots on Sunday. This may turn out to be the first contest I make that doesn't have gail force winds blowing the entire time.

RE: YS 1.40L sensitive needle
Check it, the needle does not have a groove or notch and feels smooth using a finger nail to feel for a worn notch. I have also pulled the needle seat and checked for trash or restrictions but found none. Would reducing the regulator pressure make the needle less sensitive and what other effects would that have on the engine?
