RE: Spektrum AR7000 Beware!
Can we stop with creating a new thread every time someone has a problem with a Spektrum receiver? There are already a bunch of 'em. If you have to post, why can't you post to one of those? What if every time someone has a flight with no problems, they post that experience? Sheesh! Regards Michael

RE: LT 40 deadstick
ORIGINAL: raydar Well my plane got damaged today third time at the field, **** happens.  One of the guys had her up and I was just going to take the sticks when she deadsticked low. She landed across the runway and ran into the safety fence. I experienced the walk of dread for the first time as we went to see the damage.
Well, I'm sure you know this but when you're handing her over she should be high, trimmed out, flying straight and level, and not full throttle. Hope you can fix her. Regards Michael

RE: T-28 Trojan PZ little knowledge
ORIGINAL: spool-it-up Thanks Michael, About the motor mounts, should any type of locktite be applied? or just check them. Johnny
No loctite. Eats the plastic. The plastic motor mounts just don't stand up to the vibration. Went thru four of them before I ponied up $20 for a machined aluminum one on eBay. Some peeps have no probs. Me, I get 'em all. Today, since my motor mount can't crack anymore, my motor wiggled itself out of the mount. Dead sticked it with only a broken 3-blade prop. My own fault. I heard the vibration when I took off, but I had an onboard vid cam and wanted to get some clips. Just gotta watch it. Any vibration, ya need to fix it. Beautiful flying machine. Regards Michael

Didn't do anything to mine. Been flying it for about 5 months now. The CG in the book is set using the 1800 lipo. Check the CG with your heavier batts. And then check it again. And check your motor mount often. Regards Michael
ORIGINAL: bruce88123 Horizon Hobby http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/TechnicalSpecs.aspx?ProdID=SPM2710 doesn't mention a battery pack at all but do still provide the DS821 servos. Maybe they gave up on providing ''correct'' batteries for every installation. This is actually a good idea IMO. They should be sure to let the buyer know though. Otherwise the unwary purchaser MAY think he is buying a COMPLETE system and need to place a second order or run back to the LHS. Think of the guys who live 50+ miles from a LHS.
Took my own advice (cuz I WAS curious) and went to Spektrum's web site. According to their specs the DX7 still comes with a 4.8V NiMH. Regards Michael

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods
Hi I just recently completed one of these things. I bought the ARF new in box from an RCU member and although I did an inventory of the major stuff I'm missing a couple of small detail items - the forward scoops and the rear scoop. Unfortunately they are are part of the fuselage part number and so are not separately orderable items. Certainly not needed and I won't really miss them, but I thought I'd post here in case someone might have a busted fuse I could salvage the parts from. A long shot but if so and you're willing to part with them, please PM me. Regards Michael
ORIGINAL: CARS II Michael, did you fix the retract servo position? to tell you the truth I did the same thing of gluing the servo mount and since it didn't worked I clear the retract servo mount with my Dremel tool to make a clean start and that's how I end up with my troble free set up. Good luck with yours.
Yes, I did. Works much better to lower the servo and have the arms in line with the push rods. No binding now. Even tho it is a low profile servo (JR), that mount sets it up too high. I got the old one out with a sharp chisel and glued a couple of hardwood sticks in. Gonna run the engine in on the test stand next week and prolly maiden the plane next weekend. Regards Michael

RE: NEW Top Flite .60 P-47D Gold Edition ARF
ORIGINAL: Ralphbf Hi guys I just picked the silver version P-47. The ARF had been started but not finished. Nothing glued, servos mounted and removed and pieces lost. I downloaded the manual and set the plane on my work bench today. How much nose weight is needed on these? From what I've read here it's a little less than 38 ounces, is this right? I have a brand new engine coming. A DLE 30. weighs in at 48 ounces. I'd love to pair these up but it may be just to heavy. It's suppose to turn an 18x8 at 8940. So what do you think?
I just finished one today. It's only slightly nose heavy. Balances with a coupla ounces in the tail. Has an OS 120 on it which weighs 35 ozs. Total weight is 10.5 lbs. Regards Michael

RE: Parkzone North American T-28 Trojan
Hi I did the flaps and lights mods from the article in the June issue of RC Sport Flyer. The light kit in the article is a generic 3 light pack for park flyers. When I ordered it, they called me and told me they had just come out with a 5 light kit designed for the PZ T-28, so I ordered that one. Another thing is the full size plan for the flaps seems to be no longer a free download. Cost $10 if I recall but includes the two laser cut control horns. The lights were a challenge to install and are a winner. The flaps, umm, not so much. We have a long paved runway so they're of little use to me, but it was a fun project. Here's some pics if anyone is interested. RE: kit vs ARF
Hi I know this thread has been dormant for a while and there's prolly tons of posts about this issue, but since I'm building an ARF and have noticed a coupla things, I thought I'd post them. 1) With a kit you get full size plans, very useful later on if you have to rebuild something. With an ARF you get a manual. If you buy an ARF where there is a kit version also available, it's a good idea to order the full size plans. 2) With an ARF, everything is covered and you 'assemble' it rather than 'build' it. If everything fits good (which it doesn't!) then you're fine. If not, then you've got a much more difficult issue than with a kit. With a kit you cover it after you build it. There you can fix things that don't quite fit right before it's covered. 3) With a kit you know what the joints are like under the covering. With an ARF, well... 4) And of course if you want to mod anything it's much easier and cleaner with a kit. 5) Most top name brands do a very good job of covering an ARF or an RTF. If you are good, you can do as well or better. If you are not so skilled in this area, it's very unlikely you will get a professional looking job. Regards Michael

RE: picked up a Kadet LT 40, Anything I need to know?
ORIGINAL: millertym2000 I picked a Sig Kadet LT 40 ARF from my LHS for a birthday gift for my dad. I've read a lot of good post about them, Is there anything I should look for while putting it together? I know the plane is a couple years old, I've seen it in the shop for that long I know. I guess thats why he sold it to me for $100. I checked it before I left for any damage, Everything thing looked great. We have a OS 46fxi that I plan on putting in it. What do you guys think? I've built plenty of planes so I'm not worried about that, I just dont know much about this plane. Thanks for any help.
I have one. Great trainer. It's a porker though. You need to set it up pretty much right cause it takes a while to get up to speed and it needs to fly straight on a gentle climb while it's doing that. Also check your parts. I was missing a few and Sig was very good about sending me replacements. Regards Michael

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods
ORIGINAL: CARS II I had a problem with the position of the retract servo , too high!, what I did was not to use the servo mount they supply instead I cleared some of the center rib first down to about 1/8'' then glued two 1/4'' rails to mount the servo keeping the servo as low as possible so that the wires will end up about 1/4'' above the servo, after that the instalation was as normal as it can be, no adjusments of any kind it works just fine.
Wish I'd read this BEFORE I glued the dang thing in. Servo's too high. Gonna have to "unglue" it and do what you did. Regards Michael

RE: Parkzone North American T-28 Trojan
I have the Navy version. The manual says 2.5" measured from the LE against the fuse. I had to move the batt back about 1.5" to achieve this. And I had to carve out some of the canopy. I've also seen a slight difference between two different fuses. I've also flown it with the batt all the way forward. Nose heavy but flies good. I think a little forward of 2.5" against the fuse is good for me. Seems there's a lot of discussion of this in other threads and no real consensus. So as another poster said a couple of posts ago and I'm paraphrasing - fly it.... Regards Michael

RE: Dx7 throttle kill switch
ORIGINAL: jdkxtreme I have read the manual a few times and looked on here. I am sure I am just missing something. I am in the process of putting all of my planes on my new dx7..I have having a hard time trying to find how to activate the throttle kill..On my dx61 it was easy but I am lost on this one
There is no pre-programmed kill switch on the DX7. What I did was program the AUX2 (or other unused) switch to a mix with the throttle that's 0% in the forward position and 30% in the back position. It essentially is inactive in the fwd position and cuts the throttle by 30% in the back position. You will have to experiment with what's a good number with your engine if you do this. If you need want more detail you can send me a PM. Regards Michael
