RE: Curare construction ARG
[image]http://images.rcuniverse.com/forum/thumbnails/307529/Ay74464.jpg[/image] I presume the front servo is controlling the speed brakes and the aft servo is controlling the alerions threw a long steel wire running down the trailing edge of the wing.

Heres the top of the box [IMG]http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk74/mobileraptor/DSC01815.jpg[/IMG] Here is the plans legend. [IMG]http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk74/mobileraptor/DSC01814.jpg[/IMG] I find the alerion setup kind of weird, never seen one go through the wing top to bottom. RE: Making Molds of Classic Pattern Plane Fuselages & Parts to Keep them Alive for all of us to Enjoy!
Well, just for $hit and giggles, I called the phone number and it is disconnected, no telling how long. According to the flyer, RC Modeler Magazine did a review of it. Now if someone could find a copy of the review that would give us a ball park of when the kit was made. With that documentation it could possibly be certified for Classic Pattern. If it where certified for classic pattern I beleive there would be some interest in it. Espically sence the are none available. Since I purchased this kit I have only seen one other and it was here on the fourms. So, out of how many kits they made there are two known in existance. My Kind of plane, how many kaos's are there around, hundreds, thousands. I guess it's just me, I want something different from everyone else.

Found a picture of what is supose to be a viper and this plane does not look like it. One of the features of the F-1 is it has a raised spin down the cener top of the fuse. the Viper does not havbe it. I did find my old post on it and the general consenses was it was a re-kit of an older pattern plan called a Viper. But I really don't know.

RE: Making Molds of Classic Pattern Plane Fuselages & Parts to Keep them Alive for all of us to Enjoy!
I have very little information on it. I tried a year or so ago to researce it, but found all most no info on it. The plans are hand drawn with normal hand writing for various notes. There is no date on the plans and the plans are not to scale. The name on the plans are RS Hobby Products in Oaklawn Ill 60453. phone 312-458-6994. i didn't try calling. 64 inch ws 49 inch fusaloge .61 motor There is a flyer for another plane, fiberglass fuse and foam wings they produced. it is a MIG 21 48 inch ws 55 inch fuse .60 ci motor 690 sq in 8.5 lbs One reason I like this plane is because there is no info on it. I allways hated showing up a the field and there three if the same plane I brought with me.

RE: Making Molds of Classic Pattern Plane Fuselages & Parts to Keep them Alive for all of us to Enjoy!
I may have another candidate for you. I picked this up a few years back on e-bay. I always wanted to build the fuse does have some flaws that need to be worked out. The plane is an F-1 Tomcat by Skyglass. I have the fuselage, belly pan , wing cores, stab cores, landing gear blocks and plans. I consider this very close to a mid-wing plane without having wing tubes. It does have a per-installed front bulkhead and engine mount for a side mount motor. Here are some pictures. RE: Yellow Aircraft F-16C EDF Build
They look simular to the air fittings used on the Harley Davidson Air Shocks. they kinda work like a chinese finger trap. The harder you pull them the harder they lock. To release push in on the hose and pull out on the blue part of the fitting and it should release.

I've been out of the hobby for a while due to various reasons but the one project I didn't let go was a modified Enforcer I was building.. Hoping to finsh it in the near future. It was going to be set up with pusher .91 ducted fan. But now I'm try to put the information to go togeather for a pusher electric. The problem is I know nothing about electric. RE: Been Gone For a While
Beleive it or not I picked up the A4 at a yard sale for for $20.00 dollars. It's a bare plane right now. Fiberglass fuse and built up wings. I belive it's an old small inlet Byron A4. It does have an addition air inlet duct in the underside of the wing. I love building, I've built over 40 planes and even did a few professionally, most were 40% Cardens. Like I said, my first jet was a Regal Eagle. [IMG]http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk74/mobileraptor/Eagle004.jpg[/IMG]

Been Gone For a While
Do to the the econony, a move and three job changes. I have been away from the hobby for five or six years. With that being said I am looking to get back in. I was just starting to play with ducted fans, starting with a scratch built Regal Eagle. I had two other planes in the works and old A4 which was seconded line and a scratch build modified Enforcer. I know the times have changed over the years I was out, lots of advancements in electrics and turbines. So my question is have the electrics gotten to the point that they can fly 10 to 20 pound models with good results. Yes I have been reading the fourms here Are some pictures of the two planes I still have. RE: Shrike 40 Speed Delema!!!
The fusaloge is to narrow to fit a 60 size motor with out modifing. I built a shrike with YS-61. I had to spread the fuse side an extra 3/8 of an inch to fit the motor mount in. I did make a lot of mods to the plane but it flew very well and was in the 150 mph range. [image]http://image2-6.rcuniverse.com/e1/gallery/photos/20376/lg-58716.jpg[/image]

RE: Sig King Kobra Build
I had a 40 size shrike that I kit bashed to fit a YS-61 rear exhaust on a tuned pipe , running on 30% helicopter fuel it was turning a 12 x 12 prop slightly over 12,000 on the ground. I could hear the engine un-load in the air in a slight dive. It had limited vertical, there reason I say limited vertical is after pulling straight up you only had a few seconds before it got very small. I still have a rear exhaust YS-61 but a tuned pipe would mess up the looks of a Kink Kobra, I Think[sm=eek.gif] [image]http://image2-6.rcuniverse.com/e1/gallery/photos/20376/lg-58716.jpg[/image] P.S. RE: Sig King Kobra Build
Mike I did have a question about you wing sheeting, I noted that you used Sorghum for you wing sheeting. I also noted the you stated that you had recently started using Gorilla glue and you used it in some of you construction steps. I have used Gorilla glue for sheeting several foam core wings with outstanding results, mostly on Carden wings. I am wondering why you didn't use the gorilla glue for your wing sheeting. The only reason I can think of, is the possible migration of the glue into the already constructed landing gear and servo bays. Also, you noted the use of a YS-63. I mentioned a YS-61 While I love the YS-63 I don't think it would be enough motor for a King Kobra John

RE: Sig King Kobra Build
First Off Mike ( ExperimentalAviator) I want to thank you for doing this build and taking the time and the effort to post it in such a professional manor. I am returning to the hobby after a three year absence due to a move/relocation. I am currently putting the finishing touches on my new shop and am getting very close to being ready to put something one the building table. Here a picture of my shop, I'm pretty proud of it. [image]http://image2-6.rcuniverse.com/e1/gallery/photos/20376/lg-120265.jpg[/image] I have been considering several planes to build for my first project, I've looked at several pattern planes and other project and then I thought about my old Kouger with was one of the best flying planes I ever owned until it was taken out in a mid-air. One of my considerations is my local flying field is a grass runway, I do want a plane with retracts. So I started a search on the Kougers & King Kobras and found this thread. I decided on a King Kobra due to the larger tire size plus the plane will much easier accept retract over the Kouger. I found the Sig site and it appears that the kit is still available and will call Monday and get one on order. I don't have a engine in mind yet but I do have a YS-61 sitting in a box doing nothing. [:)] Thanks again for doing the thread and keep up the good work. John

RE: Crusader II prop-Jet : Full review with pix !!!
Strykass [quote]By the way, Steve Elsey (the designer of the Crusader II) is on this forum ! You an even contact him if you wish. What about the retracts you've used ? The plan calls for very strange (no longer available) mechanical retracts. And I can see you did not opt for the enclosed full length pipe. Maybe it's a little draggy . Which prop on the webra .50 ? [/quote] [image]http://image2-6.rcuniverse.com/e1/gallery/photos/20376/lg-108313.jpg[/image] The Retracts are a Carl Goldberg design that have been out of production for well over ten years. I still have a set of the main gear (wing) retracts should I ever decide to build another Crusader II. You can find them on E-bay from time to time. I originally ran all three gear with one retract servo and I constantly had problems with the nose gear. the nose gear was operated by a golden rod running from the servo between the two main gear retracts. The push rod always had too much flex to make the nose gear work properly all the time. I ended up putting a second servo in the nose to operate the nose retract. The prop I was running if I remember correctly was a 10x8 Zinger wood propeller. when I built this plane there wasn't a lot of choices in pusher props. If you notice in the picture the engine in mine was mounted straight up and ran a std (modified) muffler. I did this for several reasons. First it did away with everything on the bottom of the plane and if you needed to make an emergency gear up landing you could put it down in the grass with out any damage to the plane. Second, I didn't like the tuned pipe set-up the plans called for and with the exhaust exit point midway up the plane it would alway be an oily mess on the bottom of the plane. Plus sooner or latter that oily mess would start migrating under the monokote, saturating the wood and destroy the plane. Third, with the engine canted over at 130 degrees it would be hard to get to the glow plug and service the top of the engine. Forth, weight saving , no lower or upper fairing. 5th, better cooling to the motor. Modified muffler, I used the standard Webra muffler and modified it by plugging the exhaust hole (pointed forward) and drilled two 5/16" holes in the top outed edge of the front of the muffler and and install two 5/16 in brass tubes that ran to near the back of the muffler and stuck out the front of the muffler a 1/4". With this the exhaust was blown straight through the prop and kept the plane very clean. The modification I made are probably why I had a problem with the CG the lack of all the extra wood work and no tune pipe changed a lot of the planes weight around. Also Delta wings a very sensitive to CG location, even a slightly aft CG will turn the plane into a handful. Also the control surfaces are very effective on a delta wing, it does not take a lot of deflection for the plane to respond. If I were building the same plane today I would do a lot of things different. First, air operated retracts, a lot less headache, more dependable and I would use a set that were spring loaded down. In other words if you have a air system failure the landing gear come down and lock. Second, Micro Digital servos, Small Digital Servo today have the power to run all the functions on this plane at half the weight, better centering. This would reduce the weight of the plane by several ounces. Third. I would look very hard and converting to electric power. All the problems with the engine, tuned pipe and fuel system are gone. the possibility of a engine flame out on a plane that has the glide ratio of an SR-71 Blackbird is also gone. With todays motor and battery technology and micro servos this plane could be a pound lighter, which equates to more speed, slower take-off and landing speeds and a better flying airplane. One other area I would look at (and this would not be for the builder that was faint of heart) Convert to electric ducted fan or even duel ducted fans. What would Steven Ellzey do if he was designing this plane today with what he would have available to him now. I may have to build another one of these![>:]

RE: Speed Freaks Wanted- Over 150 Members already !
I loved it except for the first flight, I had the CG were the plans called for. but the first flight it was all over the sky and it was one of the wildest roller coaster rides in my life. I finally tried throttling back and about 1/3 throttle she smoothed out enough to land but it wasn't pretty. I moved the CG 3/4 inch forward and set up the plane with dual rates on the elevons and the next flight went much smoother. No one ever told me that delta's were sensitive on control throws. Once I got accustom to the way the plane flew it was great, she liked to land with about 25% of nose up, very much like a space shuttle landing, set it down on the mains and hold the nose up till the speed bled off. the nose wheel would drop and roll to a stop.

RE: Speed Freaks Wanted- Over 150 Members already !
Hello All My name is John, I started in the hobby in the early 90's and have always loves speed!!! I am coming back from a a 2 year lay off of the hobby due to a job related move and am flying again getting my fingers limbered up with a YS-63 power Aresta. My new shop is build and the building table is ready. My first need for speed plane was scratch built from plans Crusader II. Terminology for the plane is a Cranked arrow, canard, mid engine pusher with retracts and a webra 50. top speed was in the low 100's but she looked a lot faster in the air. [image]http://image2-6.rcuniverse.com/e1/gallery/photos/20376/lg-108313.jpg[/image] This was followed by a kit bashed YS-61 powered 40 size Shrike, no gear just Speed. [image]http://image2-6.rcuniverse.com/e1/gallery/photos/20376/lg-58716.jpg[/image] And last but not least is a project I started before the lay off but it has been waiting quietly on the corner to take place back on the building table. My Kit bashed Enforcer. the picture tells you what this plane wants to do. Oh That my Scratch Built Regal Eagle In the back ground. RE: Shrike 40 Build
Here is a picture of my last Shrike, I did a bite of kit bashing to it. the fuse was widened 3/8 of an inch so that it would except a 60 size motor mount. there is only a micro servo in the main compartment for the throttle. The elevator servo is in the aft compartment under the white hatch you can see in the picture. Elevator is set up on a Pull-Pull system for very positive control. Power is from a YS-61 rear exhaust on a tuned pipe, the pipe also helped the balance. Engine was turning a 12x12 APC at a little over 12000 rpm. I don't know how fast it was, but it was the fastest prop plane at the field. [image]http://image2-6.rcuniverse.com/e1/gallery/photos/20376/lg-58716.jpg[/image]

RE: Shrike Dolly
Good Job I built a dolly for mine several years ago that actually had a steerable nose wheel, I used a charge jack in the bottom of the plane than connected to the rudder on the receiver. The servo lead was mounted in the top of the dolly and when you mated the plane with the dolly it plugged in. I was taking off a aspault run way. Mine was set up with 0 incedence and allowed me to build speed before I lifted. I dont have a picture of the dolly, but heres the plane that was talking off of it. [image]http://image2.rcuniverse.com/gallery/photos/20376/lg-58716.jpg[/image] Yes, that is a YS-61 in the nose.
