RE: Hot weather problems.
moe in wichita ks i took my 3.3 apart, bent con rod and piston stuck in bore. bought parts. put it togeather, wouldnt idle, hard to tune. the trouble? i had the piston in backwards. the notch on the bottom of the piston goes to the flywheel. if you put the piston in backwards it will NOT crash any thing, it just runs bad

RE: t maxx glow plugs
moe in wichita ks i have a t-maxx 3.3 i burned up 3-4 plugs in less than 1 gal of fuel. i switched to 30% and richened it up with a #3 plug , planing on going to a #8. with the hot plug dont be afraid to go rich. years ago when my dad and i drag raced the 1/4 mile, 392 hemis, 440s, my dad would say "its better to foul out a plug cause its cold or rich than burn a hole in a piston cause you have to hot of plug" it seems to me on a 3.3 it takes a LOT of run time before you see any color in the plug, so go more by heat of engine and how it runs.

RE: 3.3 idle help
moe in wichita ks i think my idle trouble might be a leek on the crankcase. its like a manafold leek on a reg car engine. could it be checked by putting air pressure on the crankcase? what think?

RE: Quick Tuning Guides for Newbies!
moe in wichita ks iam a newbe have 3.3. the talk about temp is very interesting. it reminds me of a story i read a bout a guy that bought a new dodge in 1948. he thought it was over heating so he bought a temp gauge from the dodge dealer that was the same gauge that was in his dash. and put the bulb in front of the rad in the shade. the short story was he figured out that if the engine was no more 100 degrees hotter than the air temp it wasnt overheating. of course a air cooled engine will be different, but the idea is the same.

moe in wichita ks iam glad to hear larryf333 say to use MMO as filter oil and aro. i have been useing MMO in my gas street truck for decades. it doesnt suprise that MMO will do the job. subject change to street trucks. if you miss being able to get a MMO invers oiler, try this co. http://www.ampcolubes.com/ i have had one for 3 weeks it works good, was $69. but asjust it to 1/4 turn open. i had mine open to far and it used one qt in in 3 weeks, way to much. it should use one qt in 800-1000 miles. but it didnt cause any trouble. but it starts VERY fast.

moe in wichita ks well i got the new parts in the engine. i check things, fueled it,high speed screw 4 turns, ect. at first it didnt want to stay running. i just keep it running real slow on the ground. check the head temp highest it got was 209. then i started increasing speed a little. finaly got it broke in. it took 2 tanks of fuel. i have 32 oz of fuel, after thats gone i think will go to 30%

RE: What Traxxas T-Maxx or Revo?
moe in wichita ks i have a t-maxx 3.3 iam so new at this my idea isnt worth much. but if you get a 3.3 reajust the throttle so it only opens half open to break in the engine, dont lean the fuel to much. and watch the head temp. and as you drive it dont brake and turn at the same time. and you need LOTS of room to run it, your area should not have posts, or crubs they will wipe out your car very fast. one of the many posts i hit must have been doing 20 mph lol

moe in wichita ks well what i think what happened was cause it was lean it got hot and the piston got stuck and the rod split and came up into the piston. i could see on the piston where it galleded on the piston. my guy at the shop is getting for me a controler that checks the engine temp, that should work better for me.

RE: striped gears
moe in wichita ks well i thought i broke my tmaxx every way you could, but no i found out if its to lean it will punch a hole in the piston. so now the Q is, just buy a new engine for $150.00 or buy parts not knowing if other parts are stressed to much and will soon fail. iam leaning to both, buy parts to fix it and buy a new engine, that way iam covered

moe in wichita ks well my ideas on the glow plugs didnt work so ill just not bore you with the story. back to to squar one. did you know that soldering a wire to the plug on the canter pin will melt off? burned up another #8 in just one tank. i started an other thread where i ask about the performace rateing of the engines we use. someone directed me to a site that has the info i ineeded. the short is i did the math, and the little engines we love so much crank out about 10 hp per ci, even if they arnt 1 ci

RE: what does porting do
moe in wichita ks iam new to rc but i read an aritcal on how to port a 2 -stroke engine. basicly its like putting a biger cam in a car v-8. i wouldnt do it till i had a LOT of experance. i have a 3.3 and if it was a mlider would suit me just fine. it is a VERY hi performace engine. and be cause of that it isnt easy to tune. to break in my engine i reajusted the throttle to only open half way, it worked out good

RE: just bought a tmaxx
moe in wichita ks i have a tmaxx 3.3 the first thing i did was readjust the throttle so it only opens half way this will make it easyer to break in, this is a very power full engine. also you need a LOT of room to run these cars, cant have any posts, or curbs in the way. be sure to get permission before going onto private property. if you run in the dirt/grass go to a regular car parts house and get some starting fluid it clean you car when you are done for the day, do NOT use carb cleaner it may have chemicals that may attck plastics.
