RE: G62 Spring Starter Binding
I grab one prop blade at 12.o'clock,, wind it back to 6 or maybe 7 and let 'er go. If she's wet, she'll go.

RE: Pilot-RC / TBM 47% Decathlon
I saw one fly at Monster Planes 2009, by Gene Payson of TBM, I'm not sure what engine was used but it flew very well. There was an issue with the wing strut mounts on the fuse. breaking. They looked like cast aluminum ( pot metal maybe) and very small. That might be worth asking TBM about. I know he did a jury rig repair at the field and flew it again. Quite impressive in the air. Cheers, Dave.

RE: *** Monster Planes 2009, RCU On-site Coverage ***
I'm on my way home from the event now(it's an 8 day trip) and had a great time. Thanks to Frank and his gang, Scott Prossen, Steve Thomas, Jim Record and many others for their help and assistance. I went last year as well and this event is definately on my calendar as a "must attend" event. Cheers, Dave.
ORIGINAL: Crash Campbell Thanks Ken, How many bounces did the Gee Bee make on landing??[:D] Cheers, Colin
I pitted for Jim for quite a few of his flights and he didn't bounce it once. He is really dialed in on that Gee Bee. It's a delight to watch him put it through it's paces. Cheers, Dave.

RE: Engine help Quadra 50 Quadra 52
A Q50/52 is a good slogger of a motor. They'll run forever, swing a 20/10 prop, however, they are heavy, and bulky, and a big flywheel, with the carb on one side and the exhaust on the other, and a PT 19 cowl is quite narrow. There will likely be bits of engine sticking out the sides of the cowl. but if you need the weight up front and you have a motor, then I would use it...it's not like you are going to do 3D with a scale plane like a PT 19. There are lots of much lighter 50cc class motors out there, you'll have to pick what is right for you. Good luck. Cheers, Dave.

RE: Which cylinder forward on a boxer?
"upside down"could relate to how the engine fits in the plane. On my Weslake 342 the carb is on one side of the motor, but is on a large 90 deg. manifold. The exhaust is on the other side and presents a much lower profile. I guess most people mount a motor such as a 3W200 with the carb/ex. facing down due to packaging/clearance/mounting issues. You're right..what is upside down? Luckily, a 2 stroke doesn't care which way up it is.

RE: Using wood other than balsa
Cedar can be very oily. Some glues don't stick too well. Try some test pieces with different glues,(CA, Titebond etc.) and see how strong the joint is.

RE: Which cylinder forward on a boxer?
Sitting in the cockpit...3W 200 and Weslake 342...right cyl. forward. unless you mount the engine upside down.

RE: giant scale tri-pacer
float length is generally 75-80% of the fuse length from the rudder post to the back of the prop. I put my 1/2 scale Spacewalker on floats a few years ago...it was huge and a real pain in the a$$ to move around. Cheers, Dave.

RE: THOR 45 Questions Radio Glitchs
Is the spark plug cap pushed on the plug all the way? Some of the caps (rcxl metal cap with a big snap ring) take a real hefty push to seat them properly. It could be arcing in the cap and glitching the radio. Also make sure you are using a resistor plug. (will have an "R" in the plug #) Just a thought. Cheers, Dave.

RE: why causes the front bearings to leak on my gasser ???
All the engines I have had apart have open bearings. No rubber seal, no metal shield. The crank/case is sealed by a rubber seal, much like the axle seal on your car, that goes in front of the bearing ( looking from the front of the motor). In fact, any replacement bearing I put in that has a rubber seal on the bearing, I remove, so the oil can lube the bearing. Any grease the bearing comes with is soon washed away, the outer seal keeps the crankcase sealed tight against leakage. These engines you guys are talking about, do they not have a separate seal in front of the front bearing?

RE: why causes the front bearings to leak on my gasser ???
I've been running gassers for the last 20 years, never seen one leak. The seal is there to stop any leaks, both gas leaking out and air leaking in. It sounds like your seals need replacing.

RE: suitable sea plane propellor 27/10
I ran into the same issue..I needed a 32/10 suitable for float plane use. I tried a carbon fibre (mejzlik) and it shredded! Expensive flight! At a recent float fly, one of the guys had a flying boat with a wood prop and he used some sticky-back copper foil he said he obtained from a place that deals with stained glass windows supplies. At the end of the week's flying, I looked at his prop...it was in good shape. He put the foil over the leading edge and from the tip to about 1/3 of the length of the blade. Maybe this will help you. Cheers, Dave.

prop selection opinions please
Hi guys. I am running a G 62 on a 97in. Gee Bee Y and am using a 24/8 Zinger. Plane flies great, lots of power and plenty of speed. However, it is noisy! I need to go to a 3bl. prop, probably a Mejzlik...what size would you suggest. 22/10, 22/12, 23/10? Cheers, Dave.
