RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300-EXP 48
cpreinfalk, I was referring to post 18 by mstam1971 about the connectors being out of line. He referenced the third pic in post 18. I looked at the pic and could not imagine The EF Crew letting that get by. It seems that this was an anomaly, as I've heard no other complaints from anyone else. It looks to Me as though the horn on mstam1971's elevator is further out than normal. Anyway ,was not sure so thought I'd ask.Really looks like a great plane. Best Regards, TJ

RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300-EXP 48
ORIGINAL: mstam1971 I finished mine. Since I usually only fly gas and only have the Little Bangee electric, some questions. I didn't go for the combo setup and in stead I got myself 3 2650mah Zippy batteries, Turnigy 40A controller and Turnigy SK 35-42 1000kV motor. With the battery all the way up front, I got the CG 1/8" behind the center of the wing tube. Is this gonna work out fine or will it be tail heavy? I like my planes to be close to being tail heavy. With the big battery the plane weighs in at 47-1/2oz. Also, I ran a few batteries with a Xoar 12x7E prop. Everything seems to work fine but the motor gets really hot and smells after 30 secs+ full throttle. Is this normal? I guess the motor is about 60 degrees Celsius after the full throttle run. The battery is warm and the controller slightly hot. I tried low, medium and high timing mode and I get the impression I get much longer run times in high timing mode. Can someone please confirm? And I haven't used any of the included EZ connectors. These create a big load on the arms. See image 3 for how far the arms are out of line.
mstam1971, so what did you do about the EZ connectors? Did anyone else have a problem with them? I'm looking real hard at this beast. Thanks and best regards, Tj

RE: Great Planes Edge 540T
Thanks stiltman,I'm kind of new to the electric game and don't have a lot of cash to experiment so that is why I asked. I know these are not real world numbers and 3D requires low weight and everyone tells me every ounce counts, but I think You're right. I don't see how a few oz will affect the wing loading that much. I think I'd rather err on the large side. Besides, You can never have to much power!!!!!! Thanks,Best Regards, MonkeyGutz

RE: Great Planes Edge 540T
Fellas, got a question... To 3-D better You need less weight. With this bird @ 53 oz and using Rhino 2350 4s1p @ 25/37C battery, wouldn't it be a better choice to use Rimfire 35-36-1200 with 666 constant watts/815 surge watts and weighing 3.5 oz less than the Rimfire 42-50-800 with 925/1480 wattsand weighing 7 oz???? I mean, the battery can only put out so much juice, right? Is there any reason to go so far overkill (1480watts /3.3 lbs = 448w/lb) I know these are NOT real world numbers but it just seems so overkill.. The 50" size Balsa planes are beautiful and I'm ready to get it going. Thanks.. MG

Thanks a1pcfixer, I was planning on doing the cross wire tip(Landing gear mod 1a) for the LG,but thought maybe someone had a TNT setup they were willing to part with. I went to the TNT site and the aluminum gear is $70!!!!!!! Kinda high for an LG. TJ

RE: Great planes ultimate 160
Uncas, I made mine from 3/4" plywood. I used the stock balsa joiner as a template and put the band saw to work. 5 minutes, and "viola", unbreakable joiners with little added weight. Even drilled some lightening holes to save a lil weight.... best regards, TJ

Am finally getting the 160 up. Does anyone have the TNT gear on their plane? Does anyone have a TNT gear available/for sale. (or maybe suggest a good aluminum gear with the same/near dimensions as stock) The stock one bows badly and looks really weak. Thanks, TJ

RE: Great planes ultimate 160
I noticed talk about the Equalizer II from Smart fly for controlling the 4 aileron servos. I checked at Graves Hobbies and they did not have two of them ,which I would need for both wings , but I did see the Futaba MSA-10, which regulates 4 servos and has a place for the servo batt source built in.. so it is 2 Equalizers for 4 servos@$79.99 or 1 MSA-10for 4 servos @$59.99. Is there a reason to NOT use the Futaba?? Thanks . TJ

RE: Great planes ultimate 160
Well a1pcfixer, I reckon I will!!! Just brought the 3MM TOC53 home. Last one in stock,no paperwork, looks like everything is there. Will call Cermark about run-in (I hate the word "break-in.. sounds bad..lol) and oil to use. Like I said earlier, this is my first Gasser and first big plane, so it will take me a while to get all the parts together. Never realized how much money it takes for large scale planes. Good servos alone.. hundreds.. Oh well, that is the nature of the Beast and a price I'm willing to pay. Oh yeah, I ordered My newest Favorite Plane today! I am joining the "Addicted To The Ulti" Club!!!!!! Maudib, i emailed you a week ago about the "bling" in Your review. I tried Your site, dirtcheapgraphics and it will not load. Is this film the same film used in the day for window tinting???I used it on My rc cars. And fishdeth, I live in Fl. also.. near Groveland. Where do You fly? Best Regards, TJ p.s. If I'm in the "CLUB", does that mean you guys aren't allowed to hate me for asking to many Noobie questions???? lol.. J/K

mopar68, yep, I'm lookin to go 3-D. I saw the ASM video..looks real stable, would probably be a great Tumbler, but I am looking for slow and low.Something with little to no wing rock at high alpha/slow speed/hover. And still strong enough to pull from hover like a maniac!!!! Not asking for much, huh?? It's about time you Down Under Guys got some good planes!!!! Best Regards, TJ

Thanks RevGQ and mopar68 , it is really a nice model. It seems it is Australian. Talked to a guy at The LHS and the box has no info. Weird, those Aussies..lol. Anyway, I found some pics and one video. looks like a keeper but I seem to be leaning toward a Goldberg Ulti, or maybe even a Seagull Ulti..(2 lbs heavier than the Goldberg... ;-( ) My buddy is in love with it,but wants the red one.....would anyone know where to get the red one at?? RE: New Seagull Ultimate build (with pictures)
propnut1, I've read that the original engines were Italian and have since been taken over by the Chinese. Supposedly the carbs are better, I don't really know. But one known fix was an OS 70D carb. I just hate the idea of buying a $150 engine and then buying a $79 carb.Seems that for a few bucks more You can get a quality engine that You'd be proud to own... I am still doing some research, as I like the idea of a 38 oz 1.40 glow engine on a 10 plane.... yeeeehaaaa!!!!!! Best Regards, TJ

RE: New Seagull Ultimate build (with pictures)
lrglnman ,yeah,I think it would be a blast!! I have read that a Saito 125 is ok but a bit lacking. Seems that the way we overpower them now days has us spoiled..lol.. I know I am. I fly foamies with 2:1 power to weight ratio and now even My Modeltech Sukhoi SU-31 with a Saito .82 seems weak!!!!!!!!. Talk about SPOILED!!!!! Anyway , a bud of mine is looking into an ASM Ultimate Bipe. If He gets it I will be forced into getting the Seagull Bipe... (Yep..I'm just a big spoiled kid!!) That was the reason for looking at the ST2300. I had sworn off 2 strokes...(silly Me!!!) Not that anything was wrong with them, I just liked the low RPM Torque, and the sound is just incredible, especially low and slow. But like I said, The ST2300 looks like a good deal for the Seagull Ulti.. We shall see.. Best Regards, TJ

RE: New Seagull Ultimate build (with pictures)
lrglnman and propnut1 , the O.S. 120AX weighs 22.82 oz alone. The Muffler w/90* adaptor weighs 7 oz and the muffler w/extension weighs 7.9 oz. That is close to 31 oz either direction. The price is $264.99 w/ muffler and has 3.1 hp@9k. The ST2300 is 1.40 cubic inch weighs 38 oz (My BAD..I thought it was 31 oz!!),has 1/2 hp more and is half price. Just seemed like a good deal. At 38oz ,it would be lighter than a gasser and cheap enough (unless it is a POS) for me to afford. Just seemed like a good idea. I know sometime back that the ST2300 were known for having real bad carb problems..Just wonder if they were ever fixed. I have a 125 Saito (NIB) and a slightly used YS 110 and I hear they are not really enough to do Down on the Deck stuff with this bird. Am looking for a fairly light 3D style plane, but would love to be able to have the Seagull Ulti. Thanks, TJ

RE: New Seagull Ultimate build (with pictures)
Hey Guys..a question..I've seen 2 people ask about using a SuperTigre G-2300(Sounded like a plan to Me.)and not even 1 answer. Is the ST 2300 that bad??? I see from the specs it is about the same weight as an OS 120AX.My friend recommends ST for nearly everthing and thinks the 2300 (1.40 cubic inch) engine would be the bomb in a 10 lb plane.... and at half the price.. Any Thoughts??? Thanks, and Best Regards.,.. TJ

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size
torombolo, check this out... I have had the Seagull Super Decathlon NIB for almost a year. Had never heard of Phoenix Models till a month ago.I hear their Decathlon is way lighter. The Seagull Models are reported to be heavier than most. Before I got rid of My Saito 100, I'd contemplated putting that badboy on the Seagull SD!!!!!!. Was told it would probably rip the wings off of it. I have a Saito 82 from My Funtana 40, but decided on a Super Tigre .51 for the SD. If I like it ( I think it is beautiful) and the way it flies, I will maybe make it into a hot rod.I was hoping at one time to make it a 3D Machine. Oh, didn't mean to hijack this thread but all Decathlons must be flown properly to survive...Regards, TJ p.s... good luck on the storm..we have lots of wind and rain for days here

RE: Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 Size
wc524, yeah dude, I know the feeling of the tight wallet,LOL. I have the Seagull Super Decathlon almost done as well as the Seagull 300 ahead of the Phoenix. Can't do them all at one time so I gotta get them done as I can. I do actually have the Saito 125 and the Phoenix 330s still NIB.( by the way, are the weights I posted for the 330s about the same as Yours?) Hopefully We will get some good weather here soon in Central Fl. so I can finally fly. I am also trying to find someone with a cam to get some video, though not much luck lately. I think the 100 would be perfect, but I bought a 100 Saito sometime back for a Seagull 540 Edge I wanted ,found out it was not enough motor for a 10 lb plane to 3D, so traded up for a 125 Saito. and in the process of saving for a camera, fell in Love with the 330s.Now just gotta get all the other stuff done and start on the Phoenix. What a mess, huh?? A flight report and vid with a big Saito would be righteous..Best Regards, TJ
