RE: San Diego Battle Day
Couldn't find a cheaper 1/18 female...lol.... I found this 1/18 granny... but my wife practically whapped me one when she saw it... I also didn't want to put together a custom figure, it was a bit too expensive for just 1 figure and my budget. Now that I think it through... there's always the possibility of a "Guards" platoon of beauties... so, um... for now, she's my pershing tank commander....

RE: San Diego Battle Day
Thanx for the kudos.. and yes, no historical accuracy on the pershing... (figured on giving patton commander something to laugh at or dream up....) ;) At least I got rid of the ammo/fuel cans that were... um... securely secured (wit MEK) .. but a fun time turning the tank into something different. I can't do the flower as she does... that was her handiwork and from a distance.. it really looks like a star...lol. The background yes is a hetzer.. well something very close. I couldn't build the thing in a real 1/16 scale.. I had to take some liberties inorder to fit a HL gearbox, electronics, speaker and a regular 7.2v battery pack. Length and width are a bit longer, flat bottom, not angled, width is a bit wider.... but the drive unit is solid, a HL short shaft gearbox, HL panzer 3 sprocket with HL panzer 3 tracks... It had Tamiya electronics (swapped those to the pershing) and I'm waiting for a clark board to try out. Very fun lil tank, scratch built and it took some time to work out the bugs.... I'll post pics/comment on the clark board when I get it installed and running. David

San Diego Battle Day
Thanks for all who showed! Great day of battle, maybe next time (2 months from now) a afternoon/night battle? Just a thought, cause it's gonna become really hot soon. Took out the wifes new tank. She was asking yesterday, so, who's side would this tank belong? American or German.... I thought about it for a few seconds... Hollywood, CA... A world all it's own, filled with freaks, weirdos and prima-donna stars.... Still not quite done with it yet.... Still fine-tuning it (HL conversions with tamiya electronics) and working out the bugs....

RE: Tamiya Factory Philippines
Hmm, most japanese style assembly plants usually have canned electronic music (annoying tune(s) that goes on ALL day so you/it does not bump into you) and these little robots that run on a magnetic strip on the floor..... Guess this Japanes plant does not have that..... I wonder if they give out free samples when you visit??????

RE: TAIGEN FACTORY PICTURES
Wasn't meaning offense in their workplace.... I really thought it was cool to see ALL those tanks in various stages of build!!! Really neat pics... Thanks! I wish I had the boxes of spare parts lying around.... and a company of tanks... too bad the transmitters are limited in channels.... I would have way too much fun as their QC tank tester..... Dibs on doing durability tests... I'd have my own monster truck/tank course ;)

RE: Need help with disassembly of VsTank Sherman Turret
No screws on the lower hull/chassis? Maybe once the top part of the chassis comes off you might find another set of screws underneath holding the turret?

I was hoping it would run over the car in 1:21.... (Guess not enough paying spectators or filmed in San Diego....) Cool Replica!!! Got me interested in watching it. Been some nice war movies coming from russia. 9th Company is also a good one with nice armor/equipment and a nice story line....

Hey Kevin! Cool! Put me down for both, drive and setup. Weekends preferably, if not, maybe some time in advance so I can work the schedule around. Be nice to get with everyone!

RE: San Diego/ Los Angeles IR Battle Day May 19th
I'm shootin for deployment ~7ish. Bringing the usual rusky houses, the Sherman, T-34 and just from the factory a hetzer (similar to one, had to take a few liberties on the design..... ) KT is still in the shop due to the maintenance crew being re-assigned to the hetzer project.

RE: WSN T34/85 Full Conversion Help
Daryll's web: http://www.customrcmodels.com/shop/index.htm Great work, does really nice builds. 1. On my T-34, used HL pershing gearbox's (shaved about 1/8?in from ends, duratrax 11500 and 10t pinions, i might go with 8... just upgraded the motors and wanted to see how they ran. (would like for it to go faster..) 2. Took apart the sprockets, put in a aluminum holder/divit for the gearbox shafts then epoxied it all together. If it breaks, I might just see if there's a metal sprocket for say a HL gearbox somewhere out there. Redid the suspension arms with alumimun, put in bushings in all the holes and a screw/tensioner for the idler. 3. Plastic tracks work great... metal probably will be better, but those plastics ones are actually quite good and hold up well. btw, the elevation controls on the t-34 is laughable, and the turret rotation gearbox is NOISY!!! lol... it works, but can be annoying. Speaker is, um... well it works... Airbrushler's web work is great!!, check out the D.A.K. site. They have great builds, great pics (got a lot of ideas by looking at their pics). http://www.desertarmor.com/DAK_PROJECTS/SU-122_1942.html or http://www.desertarmor.com/DAK_PROJECTS/SU-85.html For electronics, ugh, the basic wsn electronics is not that good. To make it ir combat compatible, well topofda line, evil bay for tamiya (I'm running pershing mfu/dmd in my t-34). Elmod also is an option, email phil over at http://rctankwars.com/ Can't go wrong with either of those 2 and I'm happy with both (Tamiya is a bit more expensive, but cannot change the sound files, Elmod does have a small learning curve but has customizable sound and more control/servo options). I haven't played with the other electronic packages, maybe someone else can chime in there... Cheap way would be maybe an RX18 with dbc (dave's battle circuit)? not sure on that route, http://darkith.dyndns.org/~darkith/html/dbc.shtml / Phil (RC tank wars) might be better able to help, I guess it all depends on how much ducats u want to spend... For RC radio, basic electronics, you can stick with a basic 75mhz 4 channel (not that fun), Elmod you really need a 6chan min. 75mhz are kinda hard to find beyond 4 channel (synthezised 75mhz are difficult to find also...) Everything is moving to 2.4ghz, Better to stick with 2.4 and never have to worry(hopefully) about radio hits on the same chan. Can't go wrong with Futaba (expensive!!, but ultra reliable, well made), but I've seen a lot of Spectrum 2.4ghz out there running tanks and seem to work nicely. Hi-Tec Optic also would work, but I've seen mostly spectrums (DX6...). again, back to the ducats.... or lack of them.... Hope this helps

RE: Easy to disassemble tank?
What kit to use would depend on the controller/circuit you've created. Are you going to reprogram the transmitter? or mate it to another transmitter? If using another RC transmitter then it would be easier to mate with servos (feedback and programmable limits). If your not going to use an RC transmitter, maybe a HL as it uses simple DC motors (no feedback) or the tank you bought, It's gotta have screws (bottom of tank? maybe sides?, probably underneath the tank) they just don't cast whole tanks together..... (oh yea, forgot the gobs of glue slapped wherever...). Key to talking the tank apart would be finding the screws to remove the lower hull. It should lift up and allow access to the gearbox's/electronics/turret screws. Inside, it will have probably a cheap rc receiver/motor controller and dc motors with simple gearboxes to move the tank/turret/gun. Unlikely to have servos... but not to say you can't run it with servos.. take pics and post!! I love to read about creative modfications uses of tanks/frankentanks!!! lol ...

weather looks good, no rain! My KT is still in maintenance, but the sherman is good and the t-34 looks like it'll be good (just got back from rework...). Slumlord Dave 'll bring the usual collection of condemned, cheap housing... hope to see y'all there!

RE: Drive Shaft Length
Spasiba Sev. Rebuilding/upgrading some of the mechanical portions on my t-34 and was looking into different TU options (you know... the easy list.... more speed, good torque, built in coffee maker/grinder.....) Forgot the tamiya pershing tu's had the pinion gear on them.... I'm currently running HL pershing gearbox's(shaved down ~4mm) and was contemplating mato 3.1 (pershing/long shaft) or tamiya style tu's but wasn't too familiar with the shaft length on the JP/Panther. Grax for the info!

Would anyone know how long is the output shaft length (from the bracket to the end) of the Tamiya Jagpanther Gearbox and of the Tamiya Pershing Gearbox?

RE: RC Tank Clubs Attention
Thatched roofs: Fake fur from a yardage store... (this one happened to be grey/white colored fake fur.... it was on sale.... :) ) Fake fur is directional, remember this when your putting down the pattern for cutting. Cut to desired length, glue to a frame (I liked using wood glue for this, Home Depot...hahah. hate that place). For color, I used tamiya paints and airbrushed the fur for the desired look. While still a little wet, use a comb and direct the fur, hopefully covering up the edges. When dried, apply a clear coat sealant. Hope this helps and have fun!!!!

RE: To Deans or Not To, that is the Question
Totally Agree, go with Deans. Solid connections, less heat (poor contact with the tamiya's) but require solder skills (very basic) and a heat gun (wife's blow dryer works good.....). Otherwise, live with the Tamiya connection. But on hot summer months, you'll generate a bit of heat inside your tank and over time, your plugs will degrade. Welcome to Tankin! - The endless money pit........[8|]
