RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
I wasn"t hurt, But other driver had no insurance. I had to turn it in on uninsured motorist. They have already settled on the truck and trailer but have not heard on my fleet yet. You know its hard to have put hundreds of hours in kit built planes and just have them taken in a second by someone not responsible to be on the road. Bad thing is the other driver was not from this country, here making a living as a physical theripst whose visa runs out in 6 months. So I guess he just gets on his magic carpet and leaves the country and all is good for him. Really, this country allows people to get by with this. I"m pretty sure if I went there and committed the same crime, punishment would be decapitation or death by hanging. Sorry guys, I just had to let off some steem. I"m sure it will all turn out ok and I will have a new fleet soon.

Moto x. #81 of brotherhood. Sad to say but my Pica spit was in my enclosed trailer. On my way home from a fly-in a vehicle out of nowhere tee boned my truck and trailer. Flipped trailer on side and just demolished several kit built planes including the spit. I don"t know if I have the time or heart to reassemble her yet.

Thanks Sam. We had a good time with you and everyone enjoyed your planes very much. We had 25 registered pilots for the day,and no accidents. Thats always a plus. You are always welcome to our field at anytime the gate is open. The pictures look great too.

Yes there are. I had read many post on the correct c/g and thought I would just use the one I had read worked the best. It is not fun at all to maiden a unbalanced airframe. I have several with not good results. I am totally satisfied at 5 inches though. I hope it works for you.

Im at 5 inches from the leading edge at the fuse. when rolled inverted, it took very little down input to stay level. Thats right where I like it.

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
I was able to maiden the Pica spitfire last friday. The DA 50 was plenty of power for 26 lbs. As I was running down the runway I was thinking nose over so I had held a little up in the elevator. Well at about 5/8ths throttle and half way down the runway she started to lift off. Not enough speed so she started to wag back and fourth. I poured on the gas and climbed out to a good altitude and made my turn. Once she went stable I was able to relax a little. Had a six minute flight and decided to come in. Sat down a bit hard and the oleos dropped all the down. Popped one of my wheel skirts but other than that no damage. Next flight I will bring her in with a bit more speed. Its all worth it when a plan comes together.

RE: Top Flite p 47, ok for a first plane?
As for warbirds, I feel the P-47 is the most stable to fly.Not a begginner plane but flies great. Do yourself a favor and start with a trainer on a buddy box with a good pilot teaching you and you won"t be sorry.

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
The spinner is a 5 inch aluminum spun from ibcinyourc.com. The pilot is from Bestpilots.com. The pilot is pricey if ordered painted. I bought the unpainted and had an airbrush buddy shoot it for me. They are great detailed pilots. They come in 3 pieces. I ran a tube up through the middle of mine and attatched the head of it to the rudder pushrod. When the rudder works the pilots head turns back and forth. It is like 60.00 dollars unpainted and like 180.00 painted. They are proud of there artwork. My buddy cost me 20.00. Looks as good as the one in the picture to me. Oh by the way. I bought the 1/5th scale pilot and it was a little tall in the pica spit. Had to put on belt sander and remove some a## from him to fit.

Hairy,I didn't take your advice as a thrash or bash. If I came off unappreciative I appolagize. I too have given my .02 cents worth on other threads and hope I have helped others. If I didn't want others thoughts on this I wouldn't have posted it. If this works out long term with no bearing wear, who knows, maybe I will market it. Again, thanks to all for your input.

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
If a Zenoha or any other flywheel engine can carry the weight on the front,I would think a DA can. I can replace bearings if there is a problem or put a G-62 on it. The DA is well out of warranty but maybe a gallon through it. I have had it 3 years and run on test stand for custom pipe test. I had already took bearing wear in consideration but I believe that not being a everyday flier,I should be ok. Thanks for looking out for the DA though. They are great engines.

Way too much this, that, and the other. After the pic of the plug boot not pushed all the way on, it was pretty much over for me. Well, I guess if you beat a horse long enough, it will die.

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Well guys, here is what I came up with to get the spitty balanced. She was going to take 5lbs of lead behind the firewall. That would put me at 29lbs total ready to fly. I am running a DA 50 for power so I believe that would pull it around scale. As I said in post before , I do not like added weight. Here is my fix. I took a peice of 1 1/4 inch brass at 3.120 inches long. Put a radius on the end to fit flat in bottom of spinner. Turned down the other end 1/4 inch back to .840. That fit inside the prop bolt circle and flush with the head of the bolts. This spacer weighed 2lbs. mounted between spinner and front prop plate with clearence hole for spinner bolt. Still 4 oz shy of balance. Took that spacer and set it in the spinner.Melted 4 oz of lead and poured in the spinner. Put back together and she is balaned at 4 3/4 inch back from leading edge. This spacer is like a flywheel. Should give me a lower, smoother idle. It might affect ramp up time on rpm but I do not think I will notice. She is at 26lbs ready to fly. I will post some pics of the JEJ later.

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Dubs. Mine is at 23lbs without the batteries. The c/g right now is at 7 inches back from leading edge.Wow,quite nose heavy ya think.I will put the battery packs as far forward as I can get them, even if I have to cut a slot to put them behind the firewall. I still do not think that will put me up in the 4 inch range.Very disturbing for me as I have built several kits and assymbled many ARFs and have been able to build around the c/g and have never added weight to balance. Just lucky I guess.

I have a ZDZ 60 with a falcon ignition.when the voltage reaches 4.8, the engine produces a slight miss. Land and charge the battery and all is fine. Yes it is a 4.8 pack. I have tried different packs with the same result.

RE: RCAero JC Engines & YDA Engines
Alright guys, I have a question or two on JC and YDAs. I am building a Dynaflight Decatholon, 89" wing span with a all up weight of around 15 lbs. What I would like to see is a comparisom between the JC 28 and the YDA 32 or 38. Horsepower, weight static thrust, length from rear to prop hub. I have seen quite a bit of info on the 28, but not much on the 32 or 38. Oh yea, did i mention I like a lot of power.
