RE: L.A. Jets, May 18-19 !!
Hi guys We had a great time today. We found out about a huge music festival going on across the park on the 19th so the pilots decided to cancel the second day (tomorrow). Sorry for the late notice. We just found out about it ourselves. We ended up with about 30 pilots and flew till dusk. See you guys at the next one. Thanks again Matt Matt

Those blue ones shown are the exact ones I have seen leak under suction, when there is a tight bend radius with old polyurethane tube on them.

You probably shorted the element down in the hole. Make sure the element only touches the plug hole where it is welded on.

RE: Exchange time for bearings
Especially on a P-80 you can hear the bearings going out, kind of a high pitched whine that pops up. You can also feel the rough bearings by holding at screwdriver up against the rear of the case while the turbine is running.

RE: P-140RX Twin setup
Hi Ian, The instructions for twin setup are on page 41 of the online manual http://www.jetcatusa.com/PDFFiles/Instruction%20manual%20V6.0J2.pdf I would suggest one turbine be sequence and one in immediate mode: In single channel mode-> Place one ECU in SEQUENCE mode and the other in IMMEDIATE mode. First have both the throttle trim and stick at their minimum positions. Then by moving the throttle trim to the maximum position will start the engine in IMMEDIATE mode.

If you did not change anything else, make sure that the glowplug is OK. Energize it while you can see the element. It should glow really bright with 2 coils pulled way out.

Source for 1100 mAh A123 cells?
Hi guys, Does anyone have a source for authentic A123 cells, the smaller 1100 mAh version? I used to get them out of Black and Decker packs but I think maybe the price is better elsewhere and less hassle.

RE: UAT full, but the turbine flamed out....
I have seen cases where air was coming into the fuel line at the output nipple of the UAT, usually when there is a sharp bend. This air can be large bubbles or very fine almost imperceptible, or it can make the fuel loof creamy (the bubbles are do fine). The bubbles can also only occur at high power (hi suction) I assume this air could become trapped downstream in the filter. This is what I like to mount the filters loose, and generally in the Z axis (up down) orientation. Then just thump the filter after you start up to make sure you don't have any air trapped in there. Having the filter loose mounted lets the same thing happen when the model is airborne. Just a thought.

RE: Twin Turbine Jets, loosing 1 turbine
I don't have direct knowledge of an f14 but I helped with a maiden of a large su27 back in 1999 or 2000. On downwind for landing, it lost a turbine at very low speed, and as the pilot powered up on the remaining turbine the plane started to yaw and it ended up hitting the ground with full power and full corrective rudder put in. I think this is called "Vmca" in full scale but I don't know for sure. In other words a speed too low to safely loose one motor. Ends up you don't have enough speed to generate enough corrective yaw force as the good turbine starts generating the adverse yaw when spooling up fast.

Jim is it you that has the F-14 that pulled out the big aluminium track/ECU/ worm gear (for the wing sweep) and replaced it with the servo city drive? Very slick and let you put a proper spar carry through in there too? I would love to see that!!

RE: Ultra flash or Bandit
I have a super bandit with an original p-180. It was heavy and bent the axles. I have been retrofitting better gear for about 3 years! I have not owned an UF but have seen many fly. They have a thicker wing I think and they hold more fuel or smoke. I don't think you can get near as much fuel and smoke oil in a bandit. I do think it is easier to put full gear doors on a bandit which helps with top speed when going this fast. And I agree the flash is a tank in terms of toughness. I don't think the BARF is as robust as a normal super but that is just opinion.

RE: WHY GO EDF IF YOU HAVE TURBINES?
As for the performance difference between EDF and turbines, it amazes me that electrics perform as well as they do. Turbines are very brute force in comparison. Unless I have the math wrong, kerosene has about 40 to 50 times the specific energy of a lithium battery (amount of energy per unit mass). I would guess that a brushless ESC/motor coupled with a fan are much more efficiency that a turbojet, but even if they are 10X more efficient than a turbine then you still have 4 times the usable energy density with kerosene. Like I said it is amazing the electrics fly as well as they do. No surprise that flight times are lower but those are the trade offs. I am sure a more sedate performance level could be traded for more flight time and vice versa.

[quote]ORIGINAL: gunradd If you have a Field close by to fly turbines then I have no clue why you would fly a large EDF.
