RE: 2.6m YAK
i've had mine for roughly 3 years and built it totally stock. However, where I live noise is an issue so I have KS tuned pipes that add a bit of weight. Most everyone else I see with this plane doing 3d have in cowl mufflers. Wing rock in an upright harrier is pretty busy so I believe trimming a pound + will settle it down. I'll report back on the difference.

forgot to add one other idea. replace my PT carbon fiber prop for a wood NX for 3D flying...not sure what that will save...probably a couple oz.

RE: 2.6m YAK
Thanks for the suggestions and opinions. This is what I'm thinking at this point. Scrap the titanium idea replace stock tube w/ carbon fiber wing tube Replace DuBro 5" tires w/ kavana tires I have some plywood for ducting that I'll replace with some balsa replace steel engine mounting washers with alluminum offsets - to both move the engine forward a bit for better cg placement and reduce weight a bit go from 1/2" foam to 1/4" I'm a bit torn with the idea of spending $$ to replace my two receiver NiMh 2150mAh 6.v batteries with Lithium+regulators. If I'm right I have figured a regulator + similar sized Li battery will run about 6oz which is the weight of my current NiMh. Any advise or education for me? BTW - I'm using a Fromeco Wolverine switch which accomodates two batteries.

What's the best source for titanium bolts for axles and engine mounting? I need M6x70mm and M6x30mm. My yak is going on a diet.

RE: composite arf yak?
I'm having trouble determining where the control horns should line up with the aileron hinge axis? This is a bit confusing because the ailerons are hinged to the top surface of the wing. So is that the axis or is it some other reference? The illustrations in the manual make it seem like there is a reference on the bottom of the wing, but on mine there is a gap between the aileron and the wing. Any suggestions? Thanks, Mike

Redundant on-board config
Is there a problem with creating a redundant system in the following way? One switch battery combo into one receiver the other in the other receiver. Now simply connect both switches with a modified servo extension. I've read that this will provide full control in the event of a battery or switch failure and half of the controls if one receiver fails. I am using two 5-cell battery packs. Thanks for the help. RE: composite arf yak?
Thank you for the ideas. I didn't realize the JR eyelets were bigger but that makes sense because the plane was apparently exclusively built around jr without any consideration to other radios. The futaba round servo arm is also smaller than JRs which makes it unusable as a mount for the phenolic output arms. Again thanks for the suggestion - never dawned on me that the JR eylets might be bigger.

RE: composite arf yak?
SilverSurfer, Yes, but here's the problem. On this particular arf the holes are already drilled and are too big for the typical servo screw. The screws they tell the assembler to use are 2.8mm x 14mm. Of course anything smaller doesn't fit the pre dirilled hole and these holes are deep within the horizontal stab and ca does little to make up the difference in size. Just seems odd to use screws with out the brass eyelets. Just wondering what others are doing or did with this model. Mike

I'm in the process of building the fantasy scheme yak and have a question. The screws that are supplied to fasten the elevator servos are too big to pass through the eyelets supplied by Futaba. Are supposed to use the screws without eyelets? Thanks, Mike

No advice? I would have thought that Futaba would have tested these components and have some data on there durability. Disappointing.

Standard round servo output arm
Hi, I have a 2.6m C-ARF Yak and the instructions call for fastening a phenolic C-ARF arm to the standard round servo output arm. This effectively extends the arm 35mm from the center to control rod. The concern I have is will the standard nylon round servo output arm strip out when using a 9155 servo on 5cell NiCd pack? If so what other options could I consider that will keep the alignment the same? I think the H9 aluminum arms will actually require the slot in the stab to be increased and slightly change the geometry. Thoughts? Thx,|Mike

H9 33% Sukhoi ZDZ80 mount
I need some help. I know the airplane is yesterday's news but I've had mine for several years and keep breaking aluminum engine mounts. I was using the plates that were sold at ChiefAircraft. I believe chief stopped selling them awhile ago. I'm wondering if anyone has a better idea other than building a new firewall off of the existing firewall. Is there anyone out there with this model engine combo that have found a easy to install and reliable mount system? Mike

Custom header / can combo
Okay I'm getting frustrated, please help. I can't seem to find any one that can tell me where to find the necessary header components to DIY a custom header for a inverted mounted zdz80 mated to a H9 Sukhoi. I want the canister to be mounted 50/50 beneath the sukhoi. Far enough underneath just to clear the aluminum landing gear. Any direction would be appreciated before I dump the whole project in the can. Thx, Mike

Foam flat wing and lift
Hi, So I thought that the shape of a wing was what generated lift via the low pressure created as air flows over the airfoil. So, how the heck does this foam airplane I fly work - and work so well!! I mean this thing is so fun it's scary. I just don't understand the lift thing. Now, power to weight and wing loading I got that .. Anyone out there ready and able to enlighten me? Thx, Mike

3D Foamy
Anyone, I'm looking for a 3D capable foam airplane that will match to an E-flight 370 brushless motor and phoenix-10 ESC. I have a tribute on order, but I just don't really want to wait until september to get the airplane. In western ny that's pretty late in the flying season. I've also found that the shock flyer is back ordered until August 20th , but who knows if that date will become reality. Any suggestions? Thx, Mike

RE: DP Extra 330L Maiden Flight (Full Report)
DesertRider49, I mounted a 1500mAh 5cell battery on the side of the engine box and all was good in terms of balance. My understanding is that the newer versions have a wing tube that is aft a bit more making balance less of a problem with lighter engines. Remeber I had like the first on off the line (it's an exageration, but it was very very early). I would have actually used a smaller battery, but I needed a bit of weight and figured the oversized battery added flying time. Couple of suggestions - Only my opinion - I would only use metal geared servos, 100+ oz on the wings (preferrably more torque), also do not exceed a 8" pitch prop. Reinforce the mounting tabs in the wing with epoxy and glass so the tabs don't break loose. Oh another suggestion that you probably already know - use locktite on the servo screws when using metal geared servos...they will vibrate out otherwise. Good luck, Mike

RE: DP Extra 330L Maiden Flight (Full Report)
arvind, Sorry about you loss. I have one of the early Extras and i checked the instruction manual and it states in bold that aileron servos should have at least 100 inch ounces of torque. Perhaps this was changed in later releases due to the second aileron servo option. Also, as personal preferrence, in high stress applications I would tend to lean toward metal gears vs nylon/plastic.
