RE: Opinion wanted on converted airplane to water cooled boat engine.
Just an idea-if it runs air prop ....pop it in an Airboat! best of both worlds : ) far more amusing to steer lol

RE: First Airboat
Hi CamSLU good choice for a start project-airboat- cant go wrong- soo much fun! i think you'll want to go nitro power unless you have plenty of $$ for big lipo's to run a big brushless -more difficult to get electric to run on grass my first boat(cajun gator simple flat bottom) was powered by a .40 plane engine spinning a 10" prop and that shifted around on grass and flew on water :)-approx same size as your dimensions i would hit ebay for servo's,engine, receiver etc - .40 engine £15 ish- $20ish! not bid on them for a while though! even servos new arnt that expensive :) good luck with your build Graham

RE: Sharp curve
if you really mean 'Hovercraft' then you'd do much better with air rudders behind your thrust fan-unless your meaning an airboat then water rudders are fine if you have a water rudder -kind of defeats the purpose of hovering on air so you can drive on land or water. do you have any pics of your craft? :)

i made the front sponsens with a square outer edge-instead of curved like a rigger when its at speed theres virtually nothing in the water to dig in but i think i slowed down AND turned ....hence dig an' flip lol![&:] mod it next time lol[:D] for yours thats about a .40 or .46 nitro match! wow gona go some gotta see that run[X(]

Vamp -no i think its defo the carb's fault lol -i have 5 other nitro's and theyre up and running[:D] like Glenn said for some reason a few people seem to have troubles with the carb setting Glenn i did have a look on there and would consider £20 as a last resort- i know that would sort it easy-but i didnt actually see a carb that was the same size as mine? saw the one for the .61 but not a .21 maybe i'll have to email them. just wondered if there was a car/truck one that would fit as they can be a £2 or £3 of ebay or even easier as old OS air bleed- i like them ,theyre easy!! lol[;)][:D]

SC.21 replacement carb
hi i was wondering if theres any other carbs i can fit instead of the standard one that came with my SC.21 marine engine? i konw its not a fantastic engine but with the current carb it revs all or nothing! i have tried all manner of settings but it's still rubbish i can get it started and run for a few seconds and then it will quit and will NOT restart at the same settings! very frustrating[:@] the carb outer size is 8mm i think! with a 7mm inner -may have to double check that though? i was wondering if even a carb from a car/truck engine would work but cant seem to find any sizes for them! not to worried if its a slide carb,i'd just like to be able to start and run the motor! theres always loads of car carbs on ebay but im unsure of the the sizes as im not into cars/trucks. any help would be gr8 cheers

well i run both! nitro and brushless only done a 3 pointer brushless at the minute -but bang for bucks the towerpro combo -2409 with esc and prop from hobbycity does a fair job on mine! spins a 8 or 9" prop so you could go bigger motor http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g28GzDWQtVg link to my vid also try to build light ..but not to light! lol post up some pics when you get going! good luck

well my one is 22" long and approx. 9" wide please excuse the polyurethane glue! it does seem to foam up quite alot! no epoxy at the time! not quite up to a lazer cut kit like taylors! but it should float i do have an SC.21 marine engine i could put in it or a small OS .10 marine ? would that be enough to push it? maybe i'll post up in the nitro boats

RE: This is a bit diferent
wow how daft am i ! just read yuor whole build and only noticed on the last pics its an air boat! can i ask if you've tried different style props? i.e the orange type slow fly props? i built a hydrofoam and bought an apc9x6 prop -suggested for the motor but after running it there wasnt enough power to get it off the floor showed it to a friend who flew various craft an suggested i try a slowfly type prop full power and up she went -and eer crashed ...but thats my fault lol! they just have the same pitch but maybe half the weight so much less power needed to spin them. mayabe im wrong but £1.50 for a prop is maybe worth a try? looking nice though ! i saw the earthrace boat pics a while back but its a bit beyond my build skills at the minute:D would be good if someone could video it for you ?

RE: 1/10 Scale Electric Crackerbox
im guessing as its in speed electric it's electric[&:]- but what sort of size is that ? and any ideas what sort of nitro it would take to power it? i have had one of these made- i scaled down all the build measurements from the full size plan! http://www.svensons.com/boat/?p=RunaboutsInboard/Panther - but have only got as far as epoxying in a prop shaft! have never decided which power route to go? it was early in my building skills ! and bear in mind the plan calls for a ford V8 motor so its quite chunky on the frame plans! i could post a few pics up if anyone is interested? i would just like to get in on the water with some sort of power in it!! your pack of 480mah for $28 seems alot! http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=5634 thats 1200 mah 20-30c rated pack for $20! should give you 36 amps punch and approx 25 running especially if your not to worried about quality- but i run them and they seem fine! everyone else will prob say NO! but not many seem to listen to the fact u want cheap 'n chearful! a minute isnt long- i bet after you'll wish you could run longer! hehe!! so how come no one else your running against has posted up yet!! lol

RE: cuttin foam??
you can also glue it with polyurethane glue-(gorilla glue?) it foams up slightly when it cures- so make sure you cramp it in place-good for gap filling if your recess isn't to hot! if you dont have a router just surface glue it!

RE: 24" Cajun Gator plans .40 build
well i can say without doubt you'll enjoy it coz i got the exact same boat AND engine! i would guess yours will run faster as i ended up glassing the whole bottom as well-which i did with 1/8 ply! made it bullet proof nearly but have used that strength when i've hit a few concrete walls! lol[&:] after running it in a small pond you really get the feel for the drift in the corners[:D] but i might add a water rudder just for course ability i've ran mine aganst a vee hull nitro and in the corners he won hands down ... but in the straights i owned him! with the extra weight i have i can honestly say i have never flipped it but dont expect much in the way of brakes lol[:D][&:][:D][&:][:D] i'll wait for the vids keep going -you'll love it Graham

i run both ! the electric brushless for sheer ease of switch on and play but batteries dont last long enough for all day running switch to nitro for power and long running some people can't run nitro so electric is the only option batteries i.e Lipo's have come on big steps so maybe in the future?? also tend to use elctric boat as rescue boat for when you stall mid water! lol

RE: swamnp buggy brushed
i was wondering if you were going to use the motors on the same channel as all for power or if you have 2 esc's you could try a thrust differential setup! so you dont need an air/water rudder! i think its my 3 pointer that koolaid man may have seen - at least i hope it is! lol this has the brushless combo setup on it and yes it does go some! i expect with 2 600 motors you could get some speed up though! what design are you planning on you can see from my pics mine runs like a 3ish pointer (tunnel hull rear so 4 points really) but the more that doesnt touch the water at speed the better hence thats why i modded the sponsens to run on the narrower points when it gets on plane. i like how it runs now and with the water rudder its very responsive[:D] good luck with you build though-i'll be checking back for some pics soon i hope[;)] electric is definatley getting there... slowly!

RE: foam boat what do you use
foam wise you can also try the yellowy white stuff that has foil on both sides- its polyurethane foam so fibreglass doesnt melt it- i doubt fuel will either you can get it from builders merchnts -its called cellotex or there are other makes of the same type its a insulation board for roofs etc. so you might be able to cadge a bit from a building site- you can normally find some in a skip somewhere thats left over! size wise it goes from 30mm to 100mm! in 8ft x 4ft sheets you can glue it with polyurethane glue as well

RE: FIRST TIMER PLEASE HELP !!!!!!!!!
Hi nick i have a couple of electric airboats- and i try to spend as little as possible on them!! all of my gear has come from united hobbies(hobby city) power wise i use a 2409 brushless towerpro combo- thats a motor and esc WITH prop and motor mount all for approx £9 ($18ish) lipo wise i have 3S 2200mah lipo hextronic- blue one- but you'll also need a new charger just for lipo's and 1 9gram servo! Reciever and handset already had[;)] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g28GzDWQtVg thats a link for my current 3 pointer style- still tweaking at the minute so its already faster than in the vid! just gtta get a new one done you'll enjoy it once your boat hits the water[:D][:D] good luck

RE: Foam hull / boat
over here we have an insulation maretial called cellotex- its a white/yellow coloured foam with a silver foil on both sides the foam is polyurethane so its pretty much everything proof[&:]- you can happily use normal resin on it- even cellulose thinners wont melt it[:D] you can get it up to about 4" thick- so you wouldnt need to glue it but i dont know if you have that over where you are?

with the blue foam i think you'll need epoxy resin- polyester resin melts the foam:( or you can spray tack some aluminium cooking foil all over(matt side outwards ) and then glass over that to stop it melting good luck[:D]

how about adding some foam sposens on booms to the back end - a bit like a rigger only at the rear- more canard style that would let you adjust the width of the back to give you the ideal size if you considered remaking the hull[:D]
