Thanks, I'm using separate channels for L/R aileron and elevator halves, Y for rudders, so guess I'm okay. Regards, Gus

RE: Elan Has Arrived!
This question was asked about ten pages back, but never answered: Where do the small (approx 1" X 1") hardwood blocks go? I think two of them have a small notch cut out. They were in the same bag as the infamous doubler. Regards, Gus

Thanks - I appreciate the pics! How does it fly with the K-80? I'm at 6500 feet msl here, but I think it will be okay. Regards, Gus

Barry, I'm putting the K-80F in a Boomerang Elan; any guidance on how far the exhaust tailcone should be from the end of the exhaust housing on the Elan? I searched the Elan thread and it doesn't look like anyone there has installed the K-80 in the Elan. Regards, Gus

Goose, Got it - thanks. Just didn't quite reach far enough around the wheel well opening to find the path to the fuselage. Good to go now! Regards, Gus

RE: Elan Has Arrived!
ORIGINAL: gooseF22 Gus, the brake line routes over the retract into the rectangular gap that is left by mounting gear.. then you have to grind a little notch so it can round under and join the retract line... then your cylinder cutout can mate up with them as you route them in the AFT most former hole.. the lines all come in behind the gear wells.. when its done, my flap servo wires, aileron and tail servo wires, and air lines all ended up together, so I place some aluminum tape over them all as a group for heat protection (overkill).and tied them to the rear former in the fuselage. remember to make the servo connection on the flap servos accessible because if you ever forget to put them up and haul butt, and strip one, its a bear to dig out the wires. so I left the connectors near the servo mount. that routing left enough air line in reserve to pull the gear a few times..
Goose, I'm at work so will try to apply your guidance in the workshop this evening, but the part I can't visualize right now is where you say "route them in the AFT most former hole.. the lines all come in behind the gear wells". Maybe I didn't look hard enough, but I didn't see an existing (without drilling holes) way to route the airlines into the fuselage from the retracts in the wheelwells. Thanks for the input, will check it out tonight. Regards, Gus

I'm not seeing a convenient (meaning obvious) place to route brake and retract air lines from the struts into the fuselage. Can anyone provide their solution? Thanks in advance. Regards, Gus

Tony, I'm just trying to find a way to bring my UF landing skills up to par with my old F-14 landing skills! I'll bring the UF to Phoenix in November and get some tips from you. Would also like to see the Hawk you maidened a couple months ago - beautiful airplane. Regards, Gus

RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video
As a very far less experienced UF owner than Dave and Ali, I was hoping for a definitive, "here is how you do it" consensus from arguably the two most experienced UF pilots in the world. But, Dave prefers lots of flap and no crow, whereas Ali prefers less flap with crow. I guess both are correct in that it comes down to pilot preference and personal technique. Just wish I could develop skills to approach that of Dave and Ali - flaps or not, crow or not! Regards, Gus

RE: Elan Has Arrived!
Mike, I noticed you used 5625s on aileron and elevator, 5645s on flaps and rudders. It seems to me that the ailerons should have the higher torque servos over the rudders? Interested in your opinion. Regards, Gus

RE: Jet friends in the Springs
My house is still in the mandatory evacuation area. Need to get the spot fires out on the steep slopes behind the house, but they are only accessible by helicopter water drops. Cooler today, higher humidity and light winds, so hopefully more progress will be made. I moved a lot of stuff out of the house during the evacuation Tuesday afternoon in the airplane trailer. Took the Extra 260 out, but the Ultra Flash stayed in the trailer and was evacuated! My wife seemed to understand. Regards, Gus

RE: The New F86D Dog Sabre
No, I don't know how much the airplane weighs. I have the Kingtech K-80 installed, did not glass the wings, have the Springair retracts/struts and didn't do any other significant modifications other than the brass tube and fibreglass tube to guid the main spar and aluminum spars respectively. We are at 6500' MSL here and the airplane certainly doesn't need any more thrust than the K-80! Greg thinks his fiberglassed wing/contol surface version is a little heavier than the stock version like mine, and he likes the extra weight, but I don't think he knows exactly how much extra that added. RE: The New F86D Dog Sabre
Good luck with your new F-86! I have two 6.6v LiFe 2100 Mah packs in the 'pocket' on the left side of the fuselage and a 9.9v LiFe in the nose next to the air bottle and only needed 4 ounces of lead in the right pocket for good CG. Regards, Gus

RE: The New F86D Dog Sabre
SU35, I've never tried to taxi mine in a 30 mph crosswind, but I'm guessing it would react exactly like yours did. I think you need to put your F-86 away until the wind stops blowing, or move out of Nebraska! Regards, Gus

RE: The New F86D Dog Sabre
SU35; did you swap the tires/rims from one strut to the other? That helped a lot on mine. The issue isn't the axle rubbing, it is the inside diameter of the rim that the o ring expands against. Give it a try. Regarding the brakes, with full brakes applied, my tires lock up. Regards, Gus

RE: The New F86D Dog Sabre
I also had one wheel that was very stiff. I swapped the tire/rims from one strut to the other and it helped quite a bit. Obviously, the rims and axles were not milled to exactly the same size. Regards, Gus

RE: The New F86D Dog Sabre
Thanks! I have made a couple other minor changes since those pics. I added "CAPTAIN GUS GRISSOM" to the canopy rail in vinyl decals and repainted the gloss green on top of the nose to olive drab and extended it back a little and up onto the canopy rail. Will try to post a couple pics this evening. My research showed that the stripes on the fuselage were international orange on the Kansas Air Guard jets, but I preferred the yellow. Regards, Gus

RE: The New F86D Dog Sabre
I'm not an expert, but have had a BVM UAT and two MAP UATs (cheaper and work great) and neither have leaked. I think you should double check the fit/fittings prior to putting gasket sealer on. Good luck on the maiden. Regards, Gus

RE: The New F86D Dog Sabre
I hope those help. The nose gear centering pin goes on the strut with the pin facing downward, then the brass collar goes against that with the centering pin hole toward the front of the airplane, then the strut. Regards, Gus

RE: The New F86D Dog Sabre
SU35, My tail section is taped up for painting so can't take a pic right now, but my horizontal stabs do not look like that. They are more forward (1/2 to 3/4 inch) and more closely fit the contour of the fuselage. Will take pics in a couple days if no one else posts them sooner. Regards, Gus
