RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...
Ordered the Traxxas servo 2075, it's water proof and has about 3 times the torque so hopefully it will work pretty well.

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...
Just ordered a set of the 2.2 Badlands, some wheels, 24T pinion, 60T idler gear and HR hardened axles. Hopefully this will help it out a little.

I know parts break but this truck has had more issues than any of my others. The cup broke after 2 packs, I hardly consider that worn but maybe that's just me.

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...
Got the spacers in and adjusted my shocks to 1/4 - 1/2 spring. The shocks seem a lot better. Unfortunately one of the axle cups split in two so I was only able to run for about 2 minutes. I'm getting irritated by this little truck. Now to decide if I want to stock up on the stock ones or invest in some hardened steels.

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...
I have read lots of people saying upgraded shocks give better handling, that and I use this thing for jumping and while it's designed to bottom out it bottoms out way to easily. The shocks that are on it do very little absorption. It will be my last upgrade but it's on the list.

Sounds like a plan. They are on order, should be here in a few days. Now I just need to replace the servo, change the shocks and pick up some different tires for it.

That was the problem, The pinion moved forward. Is there a part number for the spacer or just use whatever washers I can find laying around?

RE: Can't get my Savage X 4.6 tuned.
I got it to idle but was having issues with the wheels always spinning. I pulled the engine and the clutch shoe springs are messed up. I ordered new shoes so that should fix that problem. While I have the engine out is there any maintenance I should do to it?

Can't get my Savage X 4.6 tuned.
I bought a used Savage X 4.6. I'm having a horrible time getting it tuned. I had it running briefly but it would idle way to fast and moved without giving it gas. It seems no matter what I do it has a negative affect on the tune. This is my first Nitro RC so I'm learning. I've replaced the glow plug, the local hobby shop gave me a Duratrax Carbon Speed Glow Plug. Currently as it sits it will not run more than a couple seconds idling. If I start off it dies. From what I read this means it's too lean so I backed off the low speed ratio mix, It does not seem to make any difference though. Should I turn all 3 screws all the way to the left (counter clockwise) till they stop then proceed to dial it in from there? The HPI video said you can not hurt the engine by giving it to much fuel, only by to little fuel.

RE: Savage X 4.6 Help
I went and bought new batteries and I got it started. Now I'm struggling to get it running smooth. In order to keep it from bogging down and cutting out I need to run the engine fairly rich. The biggest issue with that is the brakes do not work properly. It takes about 30 yards to get to a stand still.

Savage X 4.6 Help
I came across a used Savage X 4.6. I picked it up and I'm having some issues starting it. I need some "tips" on what to do lol. It seems as if it floods way to easily, this could be because it's not actually cleared out when I think it is. But after turning it over once with the roto start 2 (about 3-4 seconds) it will spew fuel from the muffler. I remove the glow plug and turn it over quite a few times till fuel no longer sprays out from where the glow plug was. I bought a AA battery ignitor but the glow plug barely gets red, it does not turn colors down towards the base of it. I'm assuming I need a better battery? I searched You Tube but could not find any actual instructional videos on starting it, just breaking in an engine. The local hobby shop said to turn it upsaid down and turn the engine over to remove the fuel, he also said to lean out the fuel a little. I will attempt that tonight. I would like to go ahead and order a couple spare glow plugs to try but there are quite a few out there, anyone care to point me in the right direction.

RE: Best truck to get me into the hobby.
Small world. Yea Sam mainly deals in Traxxas from what I've seen. I haven't been in the shop in a couple years but I've bought several sets of Swampers off of him. Know of any shops that stocks parts for the Savage? PM coming your way.

RE: Best truck to get me into the hobby.
Well to answer some questions.. yes I will be alone (for the most part). The local 4x4 store has got into RC's and I know him ok as I used to buy some parts for my truck there. I'm sure if I buy some RC parts from him he could help me with tuning if there were any issues that were beyond me. That being said I do have a mechanical background (I'm actually in the automotive industry). We mess around with trucks, four wheelers and dirt bikes at the house. I'm sure there will be a learning curve but it shouldn't be anything out of reach for me. I'm not too concerned with noise. We are on a 5-6 acre lot and constantly ride our four wheelers and dirt bikes and neighbors haven't complained yet. I would imagine the Savage would be quieter than the 2 stroke dirt bikes. I got out of four wheeling due to the cost of gas. I used to have a fairly nice blazer that I enjoyed working on. I'm looking at coming into this hobby to have fun driving but to also have fun building the truck. Originally I looked at going with an electric. And while I'm sure they are nice I feel like I'd enjoy a nitro RC more. I don't mind the break in process, maintenance etc..

RE: Best truck to get me into the hobby.
I've decided to go with the Savage X 4.6. Would it be best to sink $470 into the new RTR kit or should I risk picking one up from an auction. I'm all for saving money but being new to the hobby my big concern is not knowing which parts are worn without seeing the truck in new condition. The used Savage X's are going for less than half the cost of a new one though.

Best truck to get me into the hobby.
I'm looking to get into the hobby and I want to get the best bang for the buck. I keep going back and forth between a Nitro or battery powered truck. Probably 30+ mph out of the box, would like to do some minor jumps (maybe 3-4 feet of air), some water / mud if I decide to and it must be able to go through grass that could be anywhere from 3-7" tall. My budget is under $450. I've been looking at the Savage X 4.6 RTR kit, if I go Nitro that is. For a battery powered.. I'm really not sure. I was debating the E-maxx but I hear Traxxas trucks break fairly easily and I don't want to replace parts all the time. I'm really leaning towards the Nitro, I like the simplicity of a battery powered RC but my background in the automotive industry is telling me I'd have more fun with the Nitros.. Pros and Cons to either?

RE: Is this a good deal on a HPI Savage 25?
How is the HPI Savage X 4.6? Is it strong enough out of the box to withstand a little bit of jumping / mudding? I might just save up a bit to buy new as opposed to buying used. Looking at this: http://www.towerhobbies.com/products/hpi/hpid44.html

I'm assuming one of the older ones. I have pics but no other info on it. I'd prefer a Savage as they are suppoesd to be tougher though.

RE: Is this a good deal on a HPI Savage 25?
The issue for me is since I'm new to the hobby I can't pick out those "good deals". From what I saw on ebay every thing seemed over priced. I offered the guy $170 on this Savage. If he bites I'll get it, otherwise I won't. Also talking to someone locally who has a Tmaxx for $200. Said it had everything but a charger.. Forgive my ignorance but with them being nitro what is the charger for. Aren't most pull starts?

RE: Is this a good deal on a HPI Savage 25?
I offered him $150 but I doubt he bites. The Ford body is a minus to me and would need to be replaced ;) At this time everything would remain stock, unless something breaks then it would be upgraded to a beefier piece. I just want something to play around with on the dirt bike trails and hills back behind the house.

I'm new to Nitro RC's and I want to make sure this is a good deal before I make an offer.. Are the Savage 25's fairly durable? I'm looking for something to jump, run on trails and through some mud / water. F350 body, original 25 engine w/ roto start, 2 speed trans. 4WD, 1/8 scale. $200

RE: New and looking for advice
Thanks for the replies! I have already bought the RedCat and it's sitting at my house now. I know it's small but he'll be fine with it. The way my kids beat on toys I'm not about to spend $200+ on a truck for him until he can prove that he will take care of it and use it. If he can prove both of those to me I would entertain getting him something else. I've seen the wraith but isn't it more of a crawler? I'm looking for something to stomp around on the dirt bike trails back behind the house.

New and looking for advice
Hey guys.. I'm nex to the Hobby level RC's.. I have a two part question.. I've had various store bought RC's and back when I was a kid I had a Lobo2 from Sears that was great! My son is the same age I was when I had the Lobo2 and I would wanted to get him something he can interact with that doesn't involve video games ;) So my first question is.. For Christmas I bought him a RedCat Sumo 1/24 scale truck. For the price it seems as if this was the best deal I could find. I didn't want to pay $50 for a store bought RC and since this one has replacement parts I can start teaching him about repairing / trouble shooting as well. So the question is will this be a good RC for a (basically) first time user. My second question is for me. I'd like to get back into the hobby as well. I used to four wheel but the price of gas and my old truck which got 6mpg just doesn't allow for it anymore. So I'm looking for a good truck to get me into the hobby as well. I've kind of narrowed it down to the Traxxas Stampede. I'm looking for something to jump, maybe do a small amount of crawling and some mud / water. Any recommendations? Would prefer to stay in the $250 or less range.
