RE: Prayers go out to our fellow Jet flyers in Oklahoma
Thanks Andy means a lot! The tornado was about 3 miles directly south of my house. It's a really bad situation, it was litereally a few hundred yards from my brother-in-laws house and I was texting him the location of the tornado while he was in his bathtub under pillows. Very tragic for a lot of folks down here, thanks all for keeping us in your thoughts.

RE: EXM SPORT JET
Very nice jet! Only other thing I would ask for is trailing link struts for the retracts, but from the looks of it they could probably be upgraded with some available components pretty easily.

I would love to go to Kentucky but no time this year.. Maybe next year.. I think the jets are shiny cause they're painted in the mold like comp-arf and a few others.. Looks fine in the air though.

Mavrik, I have my CG with the wings off about 3 1/8in ahead of the center of the front spar location. Jason how's the project coming? Been flying the heck out of mine, only thing better than one f-22 is two!! Here are some pics and videos from the last few weeks, also picked up a cockpit like yours it's really sweet!! cockpit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBu25Uqk_gs&list=UU5UlExIUkm0CSaETeKZ0T7Q&index=1&feature=plcp flying http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPtPHPslfaA&list=FL5UlExIUkm0CSaETeKZ0T7Q&index=2&feature=plpp_video

RE: Bio Jet Fuel.. wow I can't wait to pay 4 times more to be green..
I extensively fly turbines; luckily I have an awesome place with kerosene at the pump. But guys this is an experiment with a new technology, new technologies always start out expensive then if they work out become cheaper (anyone have a VCR in the 80's). The navy is not permanently switching to $16 a gallon fuel this is a onetime experiment. In terms of military spending this limited experiment which mathematically equals $7.5 million dollars (450,000 gallons x $16) is a miniscule cost in the military budget. Basically this experiment is costing approximately the same as a fully loaded MQ-1 predator drone (which crash quite often). And is a fraction of one percent of something like the $2.2 billion dollar B-2 bomber. Not to mention we have a base (area 51) that does experiments the tax payers may never know about. I just don't see a reason to get all mad about this, if it works to get algae fuel cheaper and an alternative to petroleum in the long run we all benefit, if not then we'll all just keep paying the ever rising cost of petroleum products. If anything this will keep the military from using 450,000 gallons of jet fuel, which will increase the supply of petroleum jet fuel, lowering the price of petroleum fuel for the rest of us… LOL, j/k ;-)

RE: Bio Jet Fuel.. wow I can't wait to pay 4 times more to be green..
Looks like 450,000 gallons (about 8 full fuel loads on a 747-400) of bio-fuel from non-food supply bio fuels (such as algae), and it's going to be used as a 50-50 blend with conventional fuel in an experiment to see if it viable. I don't see the big deal. I'm sure our enemies are laughing harder as they cash the checks from all of the oil we buy from them as it is. An alternate sustainable source of fuel is of up most national security importance. I bet china trying to copy the technology right now.

RE: JL F-22 Assembly, Winter 2011
Shaz, thanks for the tip, I had heard of the rudder issues and had believed that they were coming from the use of weak servos. However what you are saying makes a lot of sense and I will do this upgrade you are speaking of to mine before I fly it again. I have a little over a dozen flights and haven't had any issues but since yours came around flight 30-40, it definately makes since how that issue could show itself over time. Thanks for the great information!! Michael

yea, when a "spy" plane goes down in an area where it's technically not supposed to be then there's not a whole lot you can do about it. Anyone ever heard of Gary Powers?? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1960_U-2_incident

RE: Free on-board Telemetry !!
ORIGINAL: OliverJacob Thanks for the information. Seems to work great. One question - when you post the picture with the flight path - you marked the start point but then there is a straight line away from the field. What happened? Did it get called away?
no that was me driving home and I didn't notice that screen till I got home. LOL.... For the software to stop running you actually have to 'end' the session instead of just pressing stop.

RE: Free on-board Telemetry !!
ORIGINAL: bcovish Looked at the reviews of this app and it says that it will not work indoors. Where did you mount it in the plane? Does the phone need to see the sky?
bcovish, I just strapped it in with one of the velcro straps that holds the fuel tank in place, worked out fine... it stayed absolute secure the entire flight. I did think that burning 85K calories was pretty funny [:D] .....Thanks for the kind words guys hope everyone can have a lot fun with this app.. Michael

Free on-board Telemetry !!
So I saw an advertisement for an app for the iPhone that allowed the user to track their sports workout with GPS. In seeing this I was intrigued as to how well this would work if used in an RC jet as an on-board telemetry. So yes I placed my iphone in my jet, checked my radio for any interference and when all checked out fine I flew my jet with the iphone in it while running the app. I think the results were fantastic see the pics below. The jet was my boomerang elan with a black mamba turbine. The app is free and is called Sports Tracker. If you don’t mind risking your phone in flight it may be a good way to check out the performance and flight path of your jet or any other RC car or plane, I would just advise to do a thorough check for radio interference before attempting a flight!! In looking at the distance and on the image with google maps those speeds and distance includes my drive home because I did not turn off the app and it continued to record my drive home. One neat feature is that it will auto stop if the speed is below a certain set point, either 1 or 3 mph. The only thing that is confusing is that the screen with the summary it says my top speed was 143.5 however on the screen that had the lap times it showed my speed at the 3 mile mark to be at 194.7 and 154.4 at the 2 mile mark. Anyway I thought it was pretty neat and others may also be interested in it.

RE: Retract questions
Single on brakes and a double on your retracts. You want a double on retracts so that you have one channel for the retract up and down motion instead of two. If you used singles on the retracts it would just make things over complicated and waste air you could also accidently have both valves conflicting each other. The double valve will allow air to go in one way to retract up and in the other way to retract down. A single valve will only allow air in one way that's why its used on the brakes, it lets the air in then releases. I always use a seperate tank for brakes and retracts, just adds a margin of safety that is well worth the extra cost of another air tank.

Isn't this plane pretty much the same as the nitroplanes T-45 that Tam did a P-20 conversion on and made gear for? I see they both have a 45in wingspan.

RE: My Jet power 2011-video
Turbine powered ducted fan?!?! Does anyone else find that really weird.. I could see if it looked like a high-by-pass turbo fan, but no it was a ducted fan with a turbine mounted instead of an electric motor or IC motor.
