RE: BJ Craft - Nuance 120
ORIGINAL: F3A Unlimited We looked at the Nuance 120 several months ago but the pricing won't be that much less than the 2M planes probably in the $1100 range. When comparing them with say the Sebart Wind 110 size at $599 it is a big step to these high end 110-120 sized planes and we are not sure of the market for them at these prices. Granted, the Nuance 120 and Fantasista 110 are in a totally different class than the Wind 110 but they are essentially a new market segment in the US although the 110-120 F3A market in Japan is huge. We will have the Fantasista 110 in about 6 weeks as a start to see how things go but the Nuance 120 could come after that.
Ditto that. Again I think the popularity of the smaller planes in other parts of the world have to do with vehicle size and transport issues as well as limited larger scale airplane fields. Mike

We'll be getting in the Fantasista 110 in on the next shipment. We have stuggled to find a viable 110 high end market here. We will test the waters with Akiba's offering. The Nuance 120 is no doubt beautiful and we hope to have it later this year. Mike

Wow what a great article. I feel smarter now. Isaac I use a Cellro Power Lab 8 charger to break in my packs. I charge at 1C and discharge at 20 amps. I do this to all my new packs and it saves a lot of painful flights that waste time. I cycle it 6 times. Mike

RE: BJCraft Episode
I think the Canilizer is on the plane to add stability as Arch stated. You could still add stab fences to improve what the wing might take away. These planes are such a balance these days to get all the ideal attributes in one design seems hard to get. I'd like to see the Episode made available with a wing option available. Mike

RE: Team TS Design ? (Todd Schmidt Design)
Here's mine. I just started flying it in the last month. It's got a custom Dave Snow designed Eliptical wing and a Spark Dynamic stab all built up. Pletty Advance up front. It's really nice and Todd does a beautiful job on the fuses's. Robert is right it handles the crosswinds very well. This wing design snaps better than anything I've ever flown before too. RE: Electric Vs Engine.
ORIGINAL: danamania The Summer Olympics are on and an impressive record was set. I recall reading in an interview recently that he said he once practiced, was in the pool, everyday for a 5 year stretch! I was inspired by that and believe that the top pilots who win at the FAI level also practice everyday, or nearly daily. Perhaps the best motor is the one that is reliable to fly the schedule 6 times a day, 6 days a week? Just imagine trying to squeeze in a few flights after work with a motor that does not perform consistently, how is that going to work? Any time lost to tuning or trimming detracts from the practice and time cannot be gotten back. Consistent performance becomes basic at that level of effort, IC or electric. It's a man and machine thing and both have to work consistently to achieve that level of performance. The guys who get glow to that level of consistent performance amaze me. That said, there have been hundreds of times that I have been at a flying field and completed 4 or more electric flights while a glow motor was either starting up or having mixtures set. This is not the case at the top, but clearly a challenge for many aspiring pilots who are losing flight time to tuning. We will all be tuning our set-ups as we progress in pattern skills, but I think the balance of time spent flying rather than tuning or trimming is also key.
Well stated Dana

RE: YGE 90HV F3A
ORIGINAL: Reko I’m running my 4th season on YGE 80HV and I find them to be the ideal F3A controller. Never heard of one burning before. YGE90 however is different in characteristics. The experience people have had in Sweden is that the first generation worked ok, but was not as smooth as the YGE80 in engaging/disengaging brake. Later generations have had problems with misfiring (loosing sync/timing) when throttling up after down lines. This has happened on several types of motors (C50s and Pletty advance). I would assume this is due to variations in firmware on newer controllers. A friend of mine even had his prop thrown off in flight (YS emulator?). Unfortunately there is no way to identify or change firmware on the YGEs. If the YGE 90 is your only choice I would recommend making sure that your dealer is willing to cancel the purchase in case it will not work with your motor. I do not know how common the "bad firmware" version is. YGE in general are very high quality. Small and efficient. I have used them in many sizes with good results. The anti-spark function of the 90 is setting a mark for other esc manufacturers to follow. If you feel lucky there are now also some Chinese YGE clones (think it was himodel), but I would not recommend that. /David
I had 2 80's blow up in a plane 3 years ago. They were using a faulty component. It happened to a lot of guys. It was part of one run and the problem was fixed. To my knowledge the 90's have worked perfectly..

RE: Nuance
ORIGINAL: TonyF Chip is such a hoot! Don't remember saying anything against him in my post and it's kind of hard to understand why he took some shots at me. jayjayneri, since you wanted info to try to eliminate the throttle to rudder mix, I hope my info helped. I tried the throttle to rudder mix a while back with Chip's insistence, but I found for me it caused other problems and could be eliminated with careful adjustment of the side thrust/rudder trim. I think it's one of those things that in theory sounds good but in practice it's not needed. At least that's how I saw it but YMMV. Chip seems to feel it's needed but it just didn't seem that way for me. I also noted your need for a throttle to aileron mix. What motor are you using and are you using any braking in the downlines? Also, are your ailerons centered at level trim? A lot of the Nuances I have seen and heard about the stock incidence settings require some aileron trim. I think you really need to get any roll trim out by adjusting the wing incidences. I installed adjusters in mine and I started with the incidences as originally built in to the model. The 1st few flights needed roll trim but I adjusted it out. That may be the source of your roll on downlines. Now I guess I'll get to see what I said now that Chip didn't like!
YMMV... had to look that up Tony. As long as I've been flying it never ceases to amaze me how long it takes to figure a plane out. Seems like I find something new every time I go flying that improves the flying. My problem is I get tired of planes just about the time I think I have them figured out. I think it's a compensation for being married to the same woman for 34 years and having the same job for 28 years. I've got enough flights now on the Prolog to feel confident that I made a good decision switching. That in no way means the Nuance is not a great plane. It means that I find the Prolog to be a better match for me. YMMV but hey that's why they have apples and oranges. Chip if your following I can't wait to have a few cold ones with you and Bobby soon. Bud Light Lime right??? I know you and Tony are good friends. Your both tops on my who's who of this sport. Styles vary and spirited differences are healthy. Take care all, Mike Mueller
