RE: New to RC Sub
I got beginner sub from Radio Shack "The Mako Mini Sub" about 2 yrs ago. Here is a video of it :) And here is the manual.. http://www.radioshack.com/graphics/uc/rsk/Support/ProductManuals/6004354_PM_EN.pdf Not sure if it's available anymore. It is a fun toy but it does have a short range (3'-5'). Hope that helps ;) -Mus

Bearing issues with the Savage XL Diffs.. Any advise?
Hello all, About 2 weeks ago I start hearing a clicking coming from my REAR diff when I brake. I open it up and voila.. the outer left bearing is chewed up. So I get a new one.. install.. and YAY! on the road again! Today I am running up and down my lawn and doing small light jumps (Not braking or throttling during landings) and I start to hear a high pitched whining from the FRONT diffs.. I open it up and this is what I find. [image]http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll272/Muslickzzz/DSCF0765.jpg[/image] And [image]http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll272/Muslickzzz/DSCF0767.jpg[/image] Now, here are my questions if anyone could help me. 1) Is this the result of not properly Shimming the Diffs? As I hear so many of you do. 2) Is this a common occurrence for HPI Diffs? 3) As it must now obviously be replaced, what brand would you recommend? Does anyone have a link to favorite replacement for these bearings? 4) In general, How can I avoid this happening in the future.. as it is beginning to get annoying every 2 weeks I would like to thank in advance anyone who can assist :) -Mus [8D]
ORIGINAL: PrjctStrtFrce muslickz-thanks! I was just curious to see how you got it to fit and I see that you ghettoed it up with the zip ties :D Doesn't that flex/move a bit if/when it rolls over?
A bit but not really, the way I have the zips attached it keeps the cage from moving.. if you set it up that way and take a look you will see. It does flex a bit.. but I have had

RE: Ok, noob tuned.. tell me how it sounds..
Nice, yea.. I was wondering.. because I can get it to hit 2nd gear about 1/2 way to WOT.. then nothing.. but just once in a while it will hit 3rd after 3-5 secs at WOT. It does seem to run a bit hot (260-280) and Idle@240-260.. does that sound high? Also once it hits 270+ it really picks up speed and then I can hit 3rd.. but still not every time. I also feel I may be seeing a bit of that Half Tank Lean?? She gets a whole boatload of power (Wheelies etc..) at less than half a tank so I think maybe the 1/2 tank lean is getting me to the correct spot tuning wise? I will try to lean it a bit and perhaps try to get a straight run on video. -Mus

RE: PICS OF YOUR SAVAGES !!
TBH, I have had some issues with it and the stock radio, I have since replaced the stock radio with a futaba I had lying around and now it works great. I have also read other places that these are troublesome for some and not for others. Diligent research will always be your friend. In my defense this was my first nitro car and I simply did not want to loose the engine due to noobish stupidity.. ergo the fail safe with temp and transmit failure guards. -Mus

Ok, go easy on me I am a noob at this after all. I am hoping to pick up a few tips on tuning, I think I have the basic Ideas down.. but I have nothing to compare to. Here's a lil vid of my Savage XL after my attempt at tuning it.. how's she sound? Any ideas are appreciated. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRh-p8pq7nw Thanks in advance for the comments! -Mike

RE: Help with factory Low end settings on a XL
Yea, I had just about discounted using them. Just wanted to see if any one had any "Hands On" Exp with em. I am not familiar with them, but I saw a photo and it looks mighty flimsy. After having properly tuned (well for a beginner anyways) the 5.9 it rips a wheelie on the slightest touch of the throttle. I could hardly imagine the small reverse unit I saw handling it for long. -Mus

RE: Help with factory Low end settings on a XL
OK, she's up and running! Engine purrs.. I am very happy (Thank you Bud!) Now to figure out this servo glitch I have.. it's on both servo's. I have a fail safe on it (VenomSmartTemp).. I hope that's not the culprit. It's odd the glitch actually moves the steering right to left in increments till it hits max turn radius then glitches back the other way.. looks almost programed :P Then the throttle servo has also been giving me issues when the truck is about 20 yards from me I will go to turn her around and go to hit the throttle and nothing, then WHAM like it was saving it up.. then nothing again.. till it gets a lil closer.. very odd.. Anyone have exp with the stick radios in a savage XL? can anyone relate? Twitching is crazy with the Tx off and still annoying with it on.. I am looking into perhaps a new radio... Any suggestions for the 100-200$$ price range? Also I gotta ask.. anyone have any exp with the reverse mods for these things? I am just a lil curious, they take a third channel don't they? -Mus

RE: Help with factory Low end settings on a XL
That's EXACTLY what happened to me, I believe it's called hydrostatic lock. And that's exactly what I do to avoid it now. I got her to start up finally and got 2 tanks thru while tuning a bit, things are looking up :) It sits still at idle and brakes work without a stall so I am pretty sure idle is good. We'll see how it does tommorow... -Mus

RE: Help with factory Low end settings on a XL
Ok, I would love to say I got her running but instead I have to head out for a new rotostart shaft. Is it me or do these things snap real easy? Got some fluid lockup and SNAP.. well I guess better the $5.00 shaft than anything else. Is there a better way? would I be better off getting the pullstart for the 5.9? -Mus

Help with factory Low end settings on a XL
Hi All :) I got a Savage XL from a buddy of mine and the high end and low end settings are all over the place. I am a bit of a noob but I am learning fast, I know there is a score line I can use to get the high end back to factory range. But I am at a loss as how to get the low end adjustment back? is it all the way in and so much out? Not too sure the proper way to get it back in order. I can get it to run but it bogs and cuts out on throttle and brake. I have the high end back to factory but I am clueless as to where the low should be. Can anyone help? Below are photo's of my current settings, I know they may not help but I am unsure and want to give decent info. Clicking the links below the photo give ya a much better look. Zip Zaps
I have a bit Char-g I got it when they first came out. I ordered it from Japan and got a limited edition model. I have since then put a 3.0 and added an extra cell. I have also made my own charger from the parts on the controller and a 4 AA battery pack. It flys and keeps a charge 10-15 Min.

WAY TOO MUCH...lol
I can't belive some of the stuff they try to pull, I wound up paying 15.99 for a cheap set of rear rims. I hate it, and even if you find somthing good on e-bay they usually wind up charging more for shipping than your even paying for the item. Ya know you are absolutely right, It's a super rooster with reverse diabled. Sorry about the mislabel. I was thinking of the Explorer... Which happens to be a pretty good ESC, well the Explorer II to be precise. I went to my LHS last night and would you believe that they're selling a RTR T-maxx kit for $500 stock. I nearly fell on the floor laughing, He told me it was a good deal. lol.... What do they go for like $375?? $400?? ok, well take it easy all..... Tower Hobby
Ya know, I checked out tower hobby. The only problem is my car is from 1987 and out of production for some time now. I wanted a stock lexan body... just for a show top. By the way Another Question to anyone out there, does anyone know a viable replacement for the Ultima's rear hub?? Maybe for another car? Somthing close enough?? I have a chassis on the way from Fla. but I'd like to be able to get em' without having to keep buying chassis off E-bay. Thanks ..:)

motor electronics..Ect..:)
Ahh, you noticed the wheels, You see I took an old pair of worn down spikes and refitted a pair of Tires off a Radio Shack RC car right over them then zap glued em down. I belive it was the model that transforms from a car to a truck. you would be surprised at the amount of tires I've gotten to fit from Cheap RC cars, I just go into Radio Shack and ask when they are gonna get rid of the floor models or if they have any broken floor models. They usually just throw em' away. I got a lot of 10 of em, with no transmitters for $10 bucks off the guy that works there. I have a pair of slicks as well as a pair of sand tires and some HUGE spiked ones, hld on... I'll get you a pict... As for the motor and ESC set up, I'm running a Rooster Foward only race ESC, with a 11 turn terminal velocity.
