RE: airplane gyro updated
Motomike, thank you, that is exactly what I need. But I have a question. The Guardian has 3 axes and 3 channel. Only one channel for the aileron, but I have two aileron servos on my extra 300. How would I connect it? M.

I thank you very much, but 500 buck on a gyro is just too much for my tight budget. Do you know something more affordable? Thanks M.

airplane gyro updated
Hello folks! I've been out of flying fields for a while, but now I'm back. I would like to have a gyro on my 25% extra 300 rudder and maybe on ailerons too. I've been searching on this forum and Google, but it is all old talking. I'm looking for something more up to date. The gyro must have the turn off option via some spare channel on my Aurora 9. Thanks! M.

Spark Plugs RIMFIRE Vs. RCExcel.
Dear all. I Would like to know if the 1/4 32 RimFire spark plug is so superior to the RCExcel spark plug. I can buy RCExcel from himodel.com for US$10.32 plus US$4.85 shipping costs. The RimFire costs US$19.00 plus US$ 8.40 shipping cost. So, my question, is it so superior that justify the double price? I'll use it on a Saito 180 4st converted to Ethanol with stock carb on it. After converted, When using Ethanol or gasoline, the engine shakes a lot and I cant get a reliable transition, but when using the 4st cool power fuel, it works as a swiss watch... Any Ideas? Mauricio

Got unemployed.
Dear all. After 14 years on the computer businness I got fired. Well, that is not the end of the world, but I need to start making some money soon... So, here comes my ask for help. Does anyone here has some online businness oportunity? I could work online. I can speak english, Portuguese and Spanish fluently. Actually, I would take any job opportunity. Second point is: I dont wanna mix things up, but another thing that I thought was, I fly a 120 big stik, everybody on the field loves that bird. I have access to a professional lasercut machine, So I'm wondering if somebody here has a Big Stik or ultra stik plans ready for lasercutting and would sell me the file. Thank you. Mauricio

RE: How often is good to change?
Rgburrill, You got the central idea! There is no problem if you fly same trainner for 5 or 10 years, the important is to be happy and fly it right!

RE: How often is good to change?
Flycat, Actually, I just threw many aspects of newbies that I've noticed... 1) Who has money to spend, buy different models (this is not a problem) but they never become a good pilot (this is the problem). How often do you see warbirds and scale models trying to be flow like a 3d bird? People buys models by taste, apearance, not to attend his flight style. And of course, those who can not afford, give up on the hobby... unfortunatelly... 2) Simulators helps a lot, I like them... but... I always strugle to erradicate from key board flyers, the mania of knocking the stick very kickly as like on a videogame. I keep repeating the mantra NICE AND EASY, NICE AND EASY... Soft and gentle... 3) The Throtle control, in 10 or 15 sessions, the learner will not learn to control the the throtle as they should, what I've seen is: Full throtle from momment 0, run the runway, nose up, and forget about the throtle stick... most people makes the engine scream like a beast, the consequence is that when for some unwanted reason the engine goes off, they panic because does not knows how to handle stalls... When I find someone willing to learn indeed, I make them fly real high and kill engine and land, it improves the landing skills. Mauricio.

RE: How often is good to change?
schleppenbach_chris, THere are people with much more experience than me, with many different opnion, but if I could give you one simple advice, for your first plane, buy an Hobbico AVISTAR or something like that. and for second plane a Great plane Ugly Stick. You will not regret. P-51? I have a Great Plane p-51, hang on my wall, two flights only... the first flight were terrible, lots of wing stalls. Second flight, were just to confirm the first.. waste of money...

RE: How often is good to change?
Guver, You are one good exemple, you did not say why you had no instructor, was it a choice? lucky you that have all the money to buy many new and/or diferent. Unfortunatelly every thing in brazil cost 4 time as it costs in U.S. Just to let you know, a Greatplanes 120cc ugly stick costs about 600 dollars, a single gallon of byron 20/20 costs about 60,00 dollars. Therefore, an average worker can not afford for the hobby and quit it. Those who can afford and keep changing, never become real good on anything... Jester, thank you for your words, we have exacly the same thinking. I see no problem of flying same model for a whole season, althoug we have no seasons in Brasil. here we can fly all year long... Flying same plane and getting masterized on it, is more interesting them having dozens and be a newbie forever! Mauricio

How often is good to change?
I've decided to write this just to check with you all if we share same opnion or not. I've teached many beginners how to pilot their models. Some takes about 10 lessons, some a little more and few a little less... Every student starts with same high-wing trainer and I never crashed any student's airplane. Well, although they are flying their very basic and limited airmodel, I can clearly see their progress. The problem begins when they are solo and stars to change from one airmodel to another... They jumps from a high wing to a low wing, and all of a sudden they show up with an extra, them with a laser, them an Edge. I dont see it as a progress, I would say they are moving horizontaly and most of time backwards, because when they are almost getting used to a model behavior, they try new tricks and crash... It seens like people are ashamed to spend time flying just "to fell the bird". I have often seen people that never had an acro before, trying everything they saw on youtube and the result is panic and crash. Of course the poor radio is guilt, never the pilot inexperience, but this is a theme for another topic. I believe we need to spend about 5 or 6 flight just to trim the airplane. after that, learn how it behaves on most of conditions and it takes another 7 or 8 flights. Also, like I said before, when they are almost used to a certain airmodel, they crash and instead of buy same model, they buy a different one... and on my humble opinion, it delays the learning progress. And just to finish my argumentation, people around you, do they influence your flight style? I have visited too many flying fields, after my old field were closed, and I've noticed that places where the majority flies big birds, the newbies tries their best and spend lots of money for buying a big bird. Places where the majority fly SPADS or old and dangeours or even small trainners, all the newbies follows their steps. Please let me know your opinion. Thank you Mauricio V.

RE: E85 in the OS Bio-Ethanol engines
DaveR, I live in Brazil and the OS-BE fuel is made here and exported to Japan. The BE engines are available in Brazil on almost every HS. I had one OS 55-be, all I can say is that the engine has a little less power than the Glow version. Just remember to buy several extra glow plugs, since the BE version has a diferent thread on the plugs, it is larger. I have seen some guys on the hot regions using hydrated Ethanol, wich mean 94% Ethanol and 6% water and the engine runs ok. Therefore, I believe your E85 fuel might work perfect. Thank you.

RE: RC-XCELL IGNITION RESISTANCE
OK, Thank you all! I´m just concerned about 03 things now.. 1) If chinese guys are always looking for saving on productions costs, why would they put a resistor if it is not needed? 2) If without the resistence the spark is so greater, what is the impact of it over the spark plug life-time? 3) Is a Rimfire spark plug so much better than the RCXell spark plug? how better would my saito 180 4stroke perform? Thank you.

RE: hobbyking 15A Ubec. TR-UBEC15
Allan, I thank you very much for your very professional answer... Your reply solved my problem. There was a very tiny witch that I had tore off. Putted it back and it is all ok... On another words, this UBEC has two switchs... WEIRD!! However I still have one doubt. Does the SPC overcomes the regular servo power suply, right? If so, let me tell you a short story... My uncle electrified an old Avistar... He used 6S lipo for engine and a 5cel ni-cd on receiver. For some unknown reason, the engine and lipo got in fire, but he were able to safely land down and extinguish fire... What if he was using SPC from engine? Would the receiver go dead? Thank you... hobbyking 15A Ubec. TR-UBEC15
Dear all, Good morning! Has anyone here tryied to use the hobbyking 15A Ubec? the SKU is TR-UBEC15 and the link is http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__6233__TURNIGY_8_15A_UBEC_for_Lipoly.html I'm assembling and electrifing an GreatPlanes P51. For the receiver system, I'm using a 3S lipo -> on/off switch -> UBEC -> optima6 ->servos. Now, here comes the weird part where I need help. If I turn switch off, them radio off , them radio on, switch on, the OPTIMA flashes the blue light for 3 times, them the light goes solid, but it does not link (or does not respond at least) THEN, I don't turn TX off, nor switch off, but I disconnect the lead from UBEC to receiver and reconnect it back, VOIL, it works perfectly! if I turn switch off, it all hapens again... If I try same setup on an AR7000 receiver, I have absolutanly no problem! Please help me! Thank you! Mauricio
