RE: CMP 160 sized Texan
IMHO, if this is your first bigger model, that's all the more reason to spend a few bucks and get a good reliable motor. I understand where you're coming from though. The G26ie is quite a bit more than the cost of the plane kit.

RE: 1/8 scale TopFlite Corsair Mods
I've very successfully used the method of gluing strips of 1/64th ply to simulate ribs. It works quite well and is both strong and light. I have removed covering from the rudder of an ARF then did the ply strip thing, then recovered it. It's a great way to easily add some scale detail and set your ARF apart from everyone else's. RCGuy, can you tell us more about where and how to get the retrofit rudder kit?

RE: 1/8 scale TopFlite Corsair Mods
Just finished my oil coolers. Here's what I came up with. I did what corsairjock did and used a piece of screen and flipped the slats from right to left and squared up the inside edges. I gave it some more depth by cutting a slot in the backing wood and recessing the entire inside of the cooler about 1/16" deeper with a Dremel drum sander. I shimmed up the outside of the slat so it came out just inside the edge of the whole assy. Except for the screens I used what they gave me in the kit. The line through the screen is just a thin piece of paper soaked in thin CA.

Jock, Your oil coolers look awesome. I'm working on mine for the first time and have the same piece of screen for mine. I think it was for a faucet aerator. Attached is a very close up picture from the Marine's Dream Corsair.
thanks, do you have a image of your instalation og the servos and stuff in the body?
Pictures attached. Also for those of you with the Zenoah G26ei, be very careful to NOT OVERTIGHTEN the prop nut. There is a double threaded shaft in the end of the crank that is only 4mm on the crank end, and it snaps off very easily. Mine is at Horizon Hobby service center right now being repaired.

I took some time away from my Corsair to finish my 1/6 AT-6 and now I'm back on the Corsair. I just got my engine about a month ago. It's a Saito 100 twin. The exhaust will be 2 flex lines exiting in the scale location. I still have to run the fuel lines and throttle linkage and tri stock the firewall extension. So far it looks like it will work pretty well. The engine fits entirely inside the cowl.
what kind of throws do you guys have on ali, rud, elev i only see CG on instructions
Sorry for the delay Speedpro, see the image attached. I used these throws that came with the amendment. My normal flying is a flight mode with these settings and just a little more elevator throw. I did not use aileron differential and stuck with the higher setting. With such a short fuselage compared with the wingspan, it does not require a lot of rudder and you might want to stay at or under what they show here. When flying, any rudder corrections are very pronounced.

RE: CMP 160 sized Texan
telejojo, Did you install the gear door covers? I had to trim mine a little before my Sierra gear would go down all the way.
For the ones using the 26 sized engines. How overpowered is the plane? What are your thoughts on using a G38?
The 26 seems the perfect balance of size and power. It fits very nicely inside the cowl and has plenty of power. I don't think I would say that it is overpowered. The G38 would probably do OK in this plane. The weight is about right that you probably would not need to add any nose weight. My only concern would be if you want it to fit inside the cowl as much as possible it could be a challenge. Look through some of the earlier posts on this thread and you'll see that several guys used some pretty big motors in this plane successfully. The other thing about the G26 is that there is still enough room in the cowl for good cooling airflow.

RE: CMP 160 sized Texan
I have a question about CG. Is it inverted or upright. Also did you all cg from wing tip or spot clostest to fuslage.
I did mine inverted (I think that's easier on a low wing aircraft) and close to the fuselage. If I remember right they give you a measurement from the leading edage of the wing and another from the leading edge of the wheel wells. This plane has a short nose so you want to keep the tail as light as possible.

Speedpro1, Here's a picture for you. Sorry it took me so long. Hope this helps. As you can see, I have the plug wire, ground wire, and tank vent all exiting through the same hole in the firewall. If you make it a rounded teardrop shape you can get the plug cap through by rotating it around the 90 degree bend in it.

RE: CMP 160 sized Texan
The hole I made for mine is like a rounded teardrop shape. You just need it big enough to put the round end of the plug boot straight in and then rotate it all the way through. I'll see if I can get a picture for you.

Good. I have 15 flights on it now. I will be at Warbirds Over Delaware with it in July. I'm thinking of buying another kit and making a more scale-like wing like I did with my first one. It had flaps and landing lights.
maybe Mystar or others with the 26 can share if they wide open or not.
Thanks for the compliment on the video. I fly at half throttle most of the time and only go to full for takeoff climb, steep climbs, loops, etc.
stupid question do you have to make a hole in the center wing section for your alieron wires to come through
If I recall, I did have to make a hole on either side of the wing center section that lined up with the existing lightening holes in the ribs. Then the extensions just go out the hole in the top of the center section.

Lowpaz, don't worry man... it's a great flying plane, you just have to get used to its different feel. I would recommend keeping it light and getting some flights under your belt before adding the smoke system. You can always do it later. The T6 looks awesome with smoke!

RE: CMP 160 sized Texan
I'm not sure what your question is. My first T6 was much heavier than the one that I fly now and I wasn't used to the way you have to handle it on the ground. I was holding too much up elevator to keep the tail on the ground and it hooked hard to the left, popped up off the ground and then snapped to the left and cartwheeled. My advice would be the same as the others further back in this thread, hold very little up elevator, accelerate slowly and carefully and go easy on the rudder to keep it straight. Once it breaks ground, it's like it's on rails. The CG on the plans is just right. On your maiden just do some practice takeoff rolls to get the feel of it on the ground first. You'll see what I mean very quickly.

RE: CMP 160 sized Texan
Thanks Speedpro, yes it is a handful on the ground. The landing in that video was one of my better ones,... I've only greased it in really nice once or twice when the cameras were not rolling. My first T6 was destroyed when I snap rolled on takeoff. It definitely takes some getting used to and doesn't really fly like anything else that I've ever flown. The spinner is the Tru-Turn that was originally made for the 1/6 Midwest kit. I got the one with the big prop slots in it and I still had to open it up a little for the 18x8 prop. The Zenoah 26ei is by far the best engine I've ever owned and it never needed any adjustment at all. It hand starts usually within 2-3 flips... sometimes just 1. I think I over-choked it in the video. Which color scheme did you get?
