RE: You MUST Have a Buddy With You When You Play
[:@] As a Person Who has been flying a Long time since early eightys ... and Love flying alone at the field ,But about 10 years ago I was having trouble with a racing rossi Engine needle was close to prop ...I chopped my palm... sliced it open big time.... I walked to my truck got out some napkins (breakfast tacos ... Found some electrical Tape ....Wrapped it around .... 10 or 14 times) ... and drove myself to the emergency room ...I left my planes there and called one of my flying buddies( i love one button speed dial) and asked him to pick up my planes....he did..... I didnt know when you have a large wound they cant stich you up you have to bandage it and let it drain and then clean it out rinse and repeat ...you get the message...well the morale of the story is... Dont mess with a fussy motor alone ...I was impatient and got bit .... Well I know if had help I wouldnt have gone thru this .... But I do love my freedom.... I guess you cant have it both ways... RE: Buy American R/C engines
[:D][;)][8|]I love American Engines I have quite a few Fox , Cox , and K & B Glow Engines in the 20, 45 ,40 and the 60 cc sizes They have Always been good and reliable. For higher power the jett engine cant be beat...And, I Also have a Few Desert Aircraft Gas engines, I love those too... For my bigger planes ... Since I buy both Japanese, Italian ,Chek, Russian and German Glo and Gas .. Engines. I can say US Engines are really good and do compare well...Desert Aircraft has the best warranty of all the companies , Ive ever had contact with.... And that says alot.. [:D]

RE: Pre-Flight Needs to Include Battery Load Test
Cycling Batteries are a very good practice and Will give you an pretty accurate Measure of Flightime and Capacity Percentage...But I recently Bought an Aurora 9 Hitec Radio And It has Onboard Voltage measurements While You are Flying (Realtime) And If you have Battery Issues Or a Servo Fails Or a Linkage gets stuck and Starts Overdriving the Servos The Radio Warns You Starts Beeping when You have a Problem (Voltage related Drop) and Gives you a Heads Up!! It has Already Saved a Plane I would have Otherwise Lost.... Thanks Hitec ... Spectrum has Also Come out with a Telemetry Equipted Radio...It will Save your plane If you have a sudden voltage drop..... pretty cool stuff... My Voltmeter is always reading my plane [:D] ...

We Lived Close to the base and Every Other year We would go(Airshow Time) .. Sit in the simulators, Talk to the Pilots,... And Also My dad had a Christmas job at a store(Western Auto) that Sold Balsa Kits, engines, Cox Kits Controlled line.. Best Support and Is most liked, (So far) No buyers remorse ... I bought the first one In my club ,and after 50 or so flights (my 38% QQ somenzini -big plane ) I am still happy ... RE: Why the AMA is not growing...........
[;)][;)] Stickbuilder has touched on the root Problem.. As with the AMA Like it or not Is Designed for Different Types of Clubs.. That are Not Created Equal, The Golden Rule Applies He who Has the Gold Rules [;)] ... If You Are in a High End Club 3D, Scale, Float Or OtherWise The Prices For Membership are in accordance With the club. If Im in a fancy Scale Or jet Club The Price is going to be high several hundred to much higher per year ... But if you Drive a Mercedes Or Beamer You Dont Complain about the GAS , So Here We are talking about the Average Club Sport Flier Who scraped together all his extra cash in buying a Model Trainer 40 to 60 size .. Radio , Got in the club , ama, Average Flier . If he spent avg $500.00 his first go around His High Wing Trainer , 6channel radio, Field Kit . As a club Member.. (He has Priority Over the Foamy pilot) . Who can fly anywhere he wants... The Other guy cant,.. HE needs us, The field, The instructor, Or His Simulator at home.. To give him a head start... Case in Point We have a Teen in our club Who is a phenomenal Flier ,..He can do any trick in the book ...Except Land,... Well, He'll Bounce all over the field.. His approaches are Terrible and He cant Line up and center the plane. At Idle. At full bore high speed He can ... I dont get it but he is better at everything else.. So no one wants to teach him.. He intimidates us... We the guys believe Since there is no wind on the simulator he freaks out at real weather (dont Laugh) ... At high speed it doesnt matter... In real life.... It(real Wind - Cross Wind) pushes your plane around (MORE RIGHT RUDDER!! ) .... Oh well, I guess he needs us after all ... and about the foamie guys they can never be treated as equalls unless he builds a giant scale gas powered Foamy with monster Servos on every surface ,Smoke [;)] [:D] ARHH ARHHH ARHH Arhhh Nachman

Not a 3D Foamy Which are very challenging I have a few of those myself . and fly them in my neighborhood.. You get the point . I can fly this plane at my house .... I dont need anything Special , Field ,Insurance ,ect, instructor. That is the point I was trying to Make is Some of the[:D] 3D Foamy Pilots Would Outfly Us in If you gave him a 25% or bigger bird . RE: Why the AMA is not growing...........
All you guys have a great point [&:] one Teenagers on their Videogame kick are not the future but will buy the heck out of the new simulators #2 The Casual Flier interested enough to buy a Foamie Or Parkzone or portable under $200.oo Small heli or flier . Not really an AMA Prospect Why . He doesent need a field He can fly at his house or the park. He doesnt need a club because It doesnt take that much skill to fly one and They dont weigh too much less than a pound so the odds of damaging property or people are low... The AMA prospect is the 25 to 60 size motor or compatible electric , that need a big space is noisy a little dangerous and needs a real live instructor... The other Park flying group which some can be encouraged to try the bigger planes can be converted Otherwise ... they need their own space and this is all clubs dilema how long do you allow a park flier take up runway and airspace ... until he needs to join the club and get into a more compatible plane the clubs flying ... and there are many different genres.. an all electric club, rc sport fliers , pot luck fliers fly whatever you have (Most of us) Scale Warbird , 3D , Giant Scale 25% to 40% and so on and so on .... Its a Big Problem There are a lot of strikes against the AMA the economy which sucks .... , Older Clubs Older Ways , Teenager Apathy [&:] Computer game addiction , Communities growing and overtaking Lands that used to be for Modeling being Overtaxed [:'(] by growth overtaking raising property taxes, and clubmembers not being able to compete and losing thru attricion and money problems, noise restrictions. RE: Why the AMA is not growing...........
[:)] The AMA is here to help clubs keep their fields.. (help clubs in trouble) ....promote model aviation ... and provide us modelers with basic insurance ...for day to day club modeling all the way to big event shows ... Right . What is your alternative, Homeowners insurance?... What about helping clubs in trouble .. Does homeowners help with that? or promoting the hobby?... The only Way this hobby will exist is if we help the local hobby shop and there are great ones .... and real bad ones ... In my town, We try to scout for the ones interested in buying a plane and carefully pull him away from the salesman.... Who will sell him something he is doomed to try ... too fast ... too acrobatic... not user friendly enough... we have lost a lot of prospective new members to bad hobbyshop advice ...more interested in making a sale rather than providing the best chance a flier needs to succeed ... We try to pull them to the field show nice docile trainer... Yes he really wants the warbird.. BUT WE ALL KNOW.. he's doomed [:@] if he buys it ... That is where we lose most of the new prospects, BAD HOBBY SHOP choices... He is all excited,[:D] He builds it, He crashes, BYE BYE..I CANT AFFORD THIS HOBBY ... he mutters as he gets in his car.. RE: Why the AMA is not growing...........
Fliers 1 , First of all I have to applaud your efforts to teach all those scouts trying to earn their badges , But Being a scout thier motivation is for their badges [:)] , Some scouts are more prone to become modelers , they are good at following instruction , they say yes sir and no sir [8|] , You have a willing student 's ...A good pool for the future AMA members, And,: Also your comments on the scouts looking for an instructor and you being to only one to show up,#2 APPLAUSE [:D].. Well, half the battle is getting the students or INSTRUCTORS to show up! ... And for the Modelers upset about losing time because kids are monopolizing the flightline ... they are part of the problem [:'(] , If you wont help... And you know who you are! ...And just complain ... you are the club anchor.... just pulling the club down(Every club has one) ... Its true what they say in most clubs 90% of the work is done by 10% of the Members , I know, We are all Busy, its a Weekend, We all want to have fun BUT, To think of others first, is really something and I applaud your efforts.. RE: Why the AMA is not growing...........
[:D][&:] "On your SIX post" , Should be a real eye opener.. Why would kids at a real airshow be more interested in flying the simulator instead of watching ,& admiring the real life action happening in front of them.... That Mindset , We should have asked the kids & Teens all into the simulators ... This Question : What would you rather be doing?.. flying the simulator ...or learning about how an airplane flies ... how to build and fly one yourself... a little survey. You, would be shocked by the answers... They would be MOST interested in buying the simulator ( the one that shoots and can be networked...So there is the real problem..... My heros growing up early 70's were the apollo astronauts, chuck yaeger, and all the thunderbirds which flew at an airshow Laredo Airforce Base..Every other year during my youth. I got to see F86 sabres , F100's , F4 phantoms, in thunderbird colors.. and in those years, They flew Really Close to you..The saftey rules were not as strict as now... I dont know what the new hero's are probably some football or baseball star.. but Aviation is far from the Majoritys mindset.... I think the AMA will survive, But it will have to evolve.. Into something more attractive to the New Younger Modeler... But I hope it is still recognizable To us, in the future ... a little bit [:o] nachman

RE: Why the AMA is not growing...........
[8|][&o][:)][:(] I Think The posters are missing the forest because of the trees ... The AMA is Losing membership and the average age of the members is going up because.... A new generation is coming in.. and it is weened on the computer. The attitude is different... It is not run an event , or membership drive , or lower the price... you all dont get it. I realized this one day When I was in front of some kids Showing my plane... and all of a sudden... I lost my audience, I realized... it.. and it has a word (The internet, xbox, textmessaging kid) our future [:@].. has no interest in our sport [:'(] ... when you are weened on cell, text, highspeed inter-networked gaming.. who would rather text message each other (in the same car) ... instead of communicating .. out loud ..It is going to be a tall hill to climb... the closest interest I got, Was the new Simulators.. YES you know which ones (the ones that shoot)... But instead of training thease kids ..thats all they want to play ... I asked dont you want to go outside in the sun and fly the real thing ???? You would have thought I was asking them to do chores or clean their room... I got the question that really ticked me off [X(]... When Is the better Simulator Coming OUT???
