RE: LiFe as RX Battery
Thanks for your reply, just orderd a couple of Fe's. Next question, have you considered switching to LiPo's for you TX? NiCads have to be charged all the time.

LiFe as RX Battery
I'm considering installing 1 or 2 LiFe batteries (2 in parallel) to power RX and SERVO's in a 81 in OV-10 powered by 2 Saito 91's. I've been told that with LiFe batteries they are safe to leave in the aircraft as opposed to having to remove LiPo's for fire safety considerations. Looking of pro/con discussion

RE: Sig 1/4 Scale Cub Wing Construction
SDPilot: Your thread was light years more than I expected. Your're obviously a craftsman and detail man. Having gone this far could you give me the thread reference on the beginning of your construction, i.e. the fuselage and stab. No sense in reinventing the wheel if I don't have to. Thanks again for taking the time to answer my question. Don't plan on starting construction for another month or so. Will spend the time going over the construction booklet and your thread. Taking a break from having just finished a Dynaflite Super Decathlon. Got a good price on a RCG 50cc from HobbyKing. Engine and plane runs/flys great.

1/4 Scale Clipped Wing Cub: Two Piece Wing
Have a Sig 1/4 scale clipped wing cub kit. Some threads I reviewed before ordering stated that the wing can be built in two parts. Saw diagrams where the midsection was permanently attached to one wing half and the other was removable for transport. However the construction booklet shows a one piece wing. Appreciate any help on building the two piece wing. For reference, I've built the 1/5 scale cub which both wing halves were removable.

SAITO 120 PROP
I have an older saito 120 with a newer carburetor. It's installed in a 90" Dynaflite Decathlon (approx 17lbs). Currently using an apc 15x6 prop but takes most of the runway to get off the ground. At full power with this prop tacks out at 9100 on the ground. Thinking of using a 15x8 or 16x6. Any suggestions?

Futaba FG8 Programing
I've heard that the Futaba FG8 has the programing capability to 'slow down' the gear retract speed. I'm an educated person but the programing guide that comes with the system is about the poorest written document I've ever seen (and I've spent 26 years in the military.) If anyone has figured out how to program the speed of the landing gear servo I'd appreciate hearing from you. Confused

CORONA 2.4 RX/TX BINDING PROBLEMS
CORONA 2.4 TX/RX PROBLEMS: I have 4,6, and 8ch Corona rx/tx coupled to a Futaba 9C. After having bound the tx/rx the 4 and 6ch will 'lockon' immedately upon power up, however with the 8ch I have to cycle the tx and rx several times to get 'lockon'. I've noticed that moving the tx some distance away from the a/c the 'lockon' sometimes occurs immediately. I'm writing this because 7 days ago I lost an aircraft after 3 minutes of flight. I assumed it was an airborne problem. Two days later I lost another a/c right after t/o. Different 8ch rx, same tx. Instruction accompaying the equipment states it my take up to 30 seconds to aquire 'lockon'. Any thoughts or simular experiences?

It's been suggested I purchase motor, esc, battery, servo's from HobbyKing (considering $ saving this is fine with me.) Since the ARF weighs 635-715g I'm looking at Turnigy: 2830 motor;Plush 25a esc;1300ma, 3s,30c battery and 16g micro servos. Appreciate comments I can understand.

Installing Solar Cells on R/C Electric Aircraft
Need some discussion/recommendations on intalling photovoltaic (solar) cells on an electric Telemater. I am working with 4th year mechanical engineering students at University of California Merced. Phase 1 of their Capstone Project (senior year project) is to build and fly an electric powered aircraft to determine the "average" flight time on the 4500ma battery flying at minimum airspeed. In phase 2 they are to design and install a photovoltaic system coupled to the electric motor battery. Phase 3 is to fly the aircraft to determine the anticipated "increase" in flight time relative to the phase 1 flight. I am not an engineer, rather the test pilot and advisor on the construction and subsequent modification of the aircraft. The students have completed phase 1 and are now working on phase 2. We are looking for information on how to connect the cells to the a/c battery: what interface in needed between the cells and battery, where to buy the hardware, and any other information/recommendations you might have to complete phase 2 of this project. For what it's worth this is a "time sensitive" project so any quick response would be appreciated.

RE: KMP F-7F Tigercat
To Chasman and any one interested in using separate TX channels to control engines operation. I'm putting together an OV-10 twin and want to be able to fine tune the engines thru a Futaba 9C transmitter. There is a comprehensive article in the August 07 AMA magazine on how to do this with a JR 10SZll transmitter but doesn't work for Futaba TX. Through trial and error I've figured out how to accomplish the same with my Futaba using CH 3 & 8. Proceedures as follows: 1. (a) Open "Advance Menu-Pg 2/2". (b) Open "THR-NEEDL" menu. (c) Set "MIX" to "ACT". (d) Move TX throttle to Idle position, set value to 0%; throttle to 1/4, set value to 25%; throttle to 1/2, value to 50%; throttle to 3/4, vlaue to75%; throttle to Full, value to 100%. (e) "Acce" (I don't know what this does), remain set to 0%. 2. Plug engine servos into CH 3 & 8 on RX. At this point both servos should operate together. Adjust servo arms/wheels so they are equally aligned. 3. Make sure CH 8 is not operated by any TX switches: (a) Open "Basic Menu-Pg 2/2". (b) Select "Aux-Ch". Set Ch 8 to "NULL". 4. Next, adjust the ATV (servo arm travel) to suit the range of movement of engine carburetor: (a) Open "Basic Menu-Pg 1/2". (b) Select "End Point". Adjust CH 3 & 8 to suit. To change between values you have to move the throttle to Full or Idle. 5. With the setup noted above you can make fine adjustments to the CH 8 engine to match the CH 3 engine at the 5 throttle settings using the "THR-NEEDL" menu, the 5 point graph, and the TX "Menu Dial". To make sure every thing worked properly I connected spare servos to CH 3 & 8 in a spare RX. Opened the "THR-NEEDL" menu and moved the throttle to one of the "set" points on the graph and rotated the "Menu Dial" and noted small movement of the CH 8 servo. If the servo arms move in opposite direction you remedy by using the "Reverse" menu in "Basic 1/2". For my OV-10 I'm using 8 of the 9 channels on my RX: 1-Rt. Ail, 2-Elev, 3-Thro, 4-Rud, 5-Gear, 6-Lft Ail, 7-Flap, 8-Thro, 9-Open. If interested in how I set up my flaps to operate on a 2 or 3 position switch and couple the elevator to the flap switch (to keep a/c from balloning when lowering flaps) I'll be glad to explain in separate thread.
