RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)
Well guys after quite a few flights and several wheel landing and making me look real good I now have a two piece wing. Had to dead stick(which I should of let her go another 200 ft down wind)turned poped gear down and started to land very fast but controled. Then this stupid landing light just had to jump out in front of her and cut the right wing panel in half.[:(] Now Im in search of ekither a set of templates of the wing ribs or another wing for the Arc P-51. She will be a good winter project though if I find what I need though.[8|]

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)
kochj I have also used the original spinner and I have been flying for a bout two years now and not had an issue with my screws coming out of course I have locktied them in. Now I don't know what these others are doing but they sure are not reading the instructions. Of course you will have that happen with any device if you don't follow the instuctions. True the other spinners look real nice and are more scale but what the heck its only an R/C airplane and a daily flyer. Not a show case hangar queen. The soft mounts I would not recommend cause this would cause the spinner to scuff up the front of the cowel. Mine is solid mount to the fire wall. just my .02 cents worth.

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)
Personally I would get with the club and have a work day and get some dirt and fill some of the divits and possibly fill in the rut. Figure in the cost of repairs and time lost to doing repairs which would be cheeper fixing the plane every time I flew or fixing the runway. Just my though cause I wouldn't fly there if I had to repair my plane everytime I flew and it was the cause of the runway and not dumb thumbs.

RE: Ziroli B25 101
Well I tryed to find my pictures of how I made my Wing MFG aircooler flaps work off of the throttel servo guess I'll have to have a friend take some photos of them and I'll try to post them for you to see and copy for your B-25. I'm also in the prossess of building a 118" Zeroli B-25 and plan of making mine functional like my Wing kit. All I can tell you rite now is to get some gear door hinges and some shimming material. The shimming material you will use to lap together the flaps and on the 4:00 and 8:00 flaps you will install a horn to connect to a piviot arm that connects to the throttel cable on the engine. Thats way I did mine and as you advanced the throttle the flaps closed. Which at an idle more air would cirulate past the engine keeping it cooler. I've had a lot of people looke at these and were amazed at how simple they worked. Thats 12 flaps working off of one servo per nalcel. Realy helps on the scale look too

Next flight go ahead and do it yourself but do have some experience next to you for help and suggestions . Even with out flap she lands like a pro and will bleed of speed after about fifty feet. Leave the throws on low and just fly her with gentle fingers and you will be pleased. Don't panic and be gentle and you will be very happy with the way she handles

RE: AKM SU-27 Flanker-Does Look Good
Don't worry about weight in the tail of this bird cause you will need it. In the tailcones is where I have my battery pack and moved most of the servos as far back as I could get them and still a little nose heavy.

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Well the tailfeathers are already epoxied in so they will be what they are I'll have to use the tailfeathers as my starting point. I had to remove them once and cutting the epoxy was a b****h but I used a ucontrol wire as a cuttin tool and I worked out just fine but I don't plan on doing this again that is why I will leave the tailfeathers the way they are. And have the incedence and thrust of the engine dictated by the tailfeathers. So far everything is starting to shape up but time will tell.[;)]

well with a lot of sanding and some tweeking I think I got some of it straiten out I'm at about 2 degrees positive on the wing Im at 0 degrees for the tailfeathers and the box looks square to me that is I think I can sand a little more of the right side and get it down to about 1.5 degrees positive on the wing. I will have to deepen the wing anchor block area a little to make it all fit snug. thanks for the help and I hope that I get everything squared and looking good. I'll keep working at it before I apply any more glue to things

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
guys I have a little problem with my corsair. I have the wings sheeted and dowel pins in but when I put the wing in the wing saddle as far as the wing seating to the wing saddle doesn't look quite rite. Kindof like the fuse or wing are warped. Now visualy the wing and tailfeathers look quare from the front and back. Now I haven't put my incident guage on just yet. Should I build up the saddle and sheeting to the wing sand flush to wing then pu my quage on and check incedent then sand down accordingly. Or just dance on it and be very upset[:(]

Yes there is and one of the Stearmans that come down I am planning on dupicating. It is all black with a silver strip trimmed in read. The engine has a cowel and wheel pants also. The owner also let me take a lot of pictures of his bird sos I hope I do him justice when I duplicate it. Hopefully he will let me pose my plane next to his and then I will post it on this site later this year.

Oh I'll be here a long while and by the way I have six of these TT 40 and have flown quite a few planes I even had them on a B-17 once and made hamburger of a fellow flyers finger when he forgo number one engine was running and tryed to tweek out number two. There wasn't enough meat left to stich so they just wrapped it. Quite an experience for him plus the learning curve LOL[X(]

sounds fair enough but don't get lost again there's a lot of us out here that would love to have your bigger version. I have several ST40 that need a home and I also have a few of TT40 that are very reliable and a lot lighter than the ST40s that need a good home also. Keep us posted on your progress.[:D]

RE: 87" Zirtoli Stearman Weight
I see we are all early bird here don't we have anything better to do LOL Forgot to let you guys know that my tailfeathers are built and covered fuse framed up (no landing gear just yet) both wings built and sanded working on ailerons. A friend of mine has one that weighs about 35lbs and the only issue he has is it nosing over during landings and taxing. Learned from him to take and on the lamination of the rudder to put some 32 ply between the laminations for strenth. Other wise the upper portion of the rudder crushes real bad.

RE: 87" Zirtoli Stearman Weight
Just make sure that you get the CG rite even if you have to make it a little nose heavey. It will fly much better nose heavey than tail heavey. You can loose a lot of planes if they are tail heavey. Good luck and maybe you could post some Pictures of her if I ever get my camera working I will take some of mine.

RE: 87" Zirtoli Stearman Weight
Its Okay I've missed spelled a lot of thing myself but I still got the point accross. I'm still in the building stages of mine (about three years so far)and so far the weight of the fuse wings tail and some of the landing gear isn't very much. Everybody here says that after all is said and assembled it should weigh about 30-40bls. I have not settled down on an engine just yet. With a G62 you should be just fine though.

Well unless I take the sheeting of the lower bottome end of the wing tip guess I'll just have to maybe cut the wing tip off and maybe shim a little and make her a little wider for the wingspan?

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
A dumb question for you guys. I'm having a problem doing my wing tips. I know that the top is suppose to be about level with the upper skin but the bottom I think ihas too much of an angle to look rite. Are you guys adding some wood between the wing tip and the outer wing rib to get a decent looking taper. Mine looks too thick out at the end of the wing and yet if I were to sand more the angle of the lower wing tip will look too steap or sharp angle.

Also I have straiten out the stack a lot better over the winter since the photos Also If you look real close midway down from the canopy is a a small hole which is the on/off for the radio. Incert a strate wire from one side turns the reciever on and from the other side turn off.

These are the lnly photos of my plane so you will have to look close to see the on/off switch and you mite be able to see the charge jacks for the batteries. These stacks were made from a set of wind chimes they were the closes to the rite diameter. Couldn't see messing up a pretty bird like this with what tower sent as exhaust pipes. But I did use the shielding to help scale out my stacks

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)
Well except for the kill switch for the ignition everything else is in the exhaust stacks of my bird. I have a led strobe lite to let me know the ignition is hot in one stack, charge jacks in another, air refill in another and last but not least fuel inlet for the take and in one other is the vent for the tank. The ignition kill switch is a red button on the side that way who ever is helping me start can easely kill the engin if need be.

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
You could save some of that dead weight by replacing the prop nyt with a brass spinner nut that is about 2" long. This would get more weight out front and maybe reduce the amout you need to balance. The less dead weight and the more funtional weight you have the better flying plane you will have. Have you also tryed to move the batteries and possibly the servos as far forwards as you can to help balance? Also if it is like most corsairs you mite be able to put the batteries on top of the motor mount box? This would help in you weight problem.

Trust me she will make you look like a pro during takeoffs and landings. Just don't force it and let it do its own thing and you will be surprised. Let her settle on her own while landing and everybody will be saying howed you do that its not like how you usualy land.
