RE: Powered Parachutes
That sounds like a very good idea making your own parachute. I bought a sky surfer about 4 years ago and have been having a blast with it. However, now I have gotten to the point where I am bored with the stock setup and am in the process of upgrading it. So far, I have a park 370 3600kv brushless motor planning to make a custom geared system and a polyquest 3 cell 1200mah lipo. I'm replacing the receiver and esc, too, of course. But after coming along to your post I thought of the poor shape of my chute and am now interested in making my own. How do I go about doing that?

What can I do to make my zagi not do death spirals?! (besides not give it as much control throw). Will more weight help? Does anyone have a razor(the smaller zagi that does the same thing? I would assume the shorter wingspan would ameliorate this problem) Thanks! I like the zagi. Its fun[8D]

I went ahead and moved the firewall back about 3/4 of an inch and it seemed to help drastically. I have a very nice glide ratio now , it took away some of the "wobble" in the air and it overall flies much better. Sooo, if anyone else has the same problem you can try his and it might help you out. I just took the front off with a band saw and glued another firewall on.

RE: Anyone try electric power for a shrike?
I just maidened my electric shrike today and it was a blast. I have an MPI speed 400 motor, a 3 cell 1200 mah lipo 20 A Jeti ESC 2 HS-55 servos and a Hitec 555 receiver. It was a blast and went around 50-60 mph. Roll rate is very good and it was a blast to fly. However, I found that I came in very nose heavy as mentioned before. And this was even after shoving everything back as far as possible. I was thinking about moving the firewall back a cm or two. What does everyone else think?

complete with laser cut ply retracts powered by one submicro servo. all in all its 14 oz so turned out lighter than expected. I went brushless and 11.1 300 mah lipo so it will tear through the air. I would expect landings to be fairly fast, yes.

Broken Brushless Motor- Salvageable?
I have a PJS 550R brushless motor. A while ago, I was attaching my prop-shaft-adaptor and afterwords the motor sounded like it was gargling and I didn't have as much thrust. Then, I took the motor apart, looked at it, put it back together, and there was no more gargling noise. However, I still didn't have nearly as much thrust. So, now I'm thinking there's a problem with the magnets. I crashed a few times, but nothing really bad. Is there a way to fix the motor? Anyone have any ideas?

Brittle landing gear?
Solution= velcro. I've broken the landing gear one my fauntana quite a few times, not even on horrible landings- flying on grass takes a big toll on it. So, i decided to make break-away landing gear. All it is is velcro on a block (which the actual gear is mounted to) and then velcro on the fuse side. It has a surprising amount of strength, but i would not recommend taking off with it in long grass. Just throwing the idea out there...

RE: Just More Fun Aerial Video
It's the 200mw brown bag kit from BlackWidowAV. It was a bit tough to put together without directions but I managed and it's working out fine right now. I've noticed it doesnt work well in developed areas such as my house becuase of the interfering signals (2.4ghz phones, wireless internet...etc.). At the flying field it works great, though. I'm still looking for some ideas for a recording device.

RE: Guillows Corsair Electric Conversion
I found a guy who's testing some 90 degree rotating parkflyer retracts. Perfect for this corsair. If someone else is looking for them I can give you his contact info. I've been putting in a few hours here and there and teh corsair is slowly coming together. The motor I'm going with is the PJS 550R. It somehow got messed up a while ago, not even in a crash or anything- I think the magnets just got messed up. Anyhow, I thrust-o-metered it and it has about 10 oz of thrust, which should probably be ok considering the plane, i'm hoping, will weigh under 20 oz. The motor was in an aerobatic foamie, abaout 20 oz, and it flew fine. I'm going to try a tri-prop so it will probably be much different with that too. I think a 2 cell 400 mah lipo should be good. In the attached pictures, you can see my progress- I put a little servo tray in like the article suggested, but I'm going to place an order today for some extra lightweight servos, so I'm going to hold off on the stringers for now. Any comments/suggestions are appreciated!

I just purchased the Corsair from Guillows- It looks like it has the potential to be a very nice plane. Has anyone successfully gone electric with this? I've seen a few with the little norvell engines. I was planning on using HS-55 's as my servos- how many am I goin to need? Also, anyone who has the plane, how much does it weigh RTF? RE: Just More Fun Aerial Video
Jett, what exactly do you mean when you say even the voltage regulator will have a ground...? You just want all the black wires going to the negative after the voltage regulator where it cuts it down to 5 volts, right? This sounds easy enough- just got to get that connector from radioshack. Hopefully will have some vids soon

RE: Just More Fun Aerial Video
OK, got my Black Widow kit today. Need some help setting it up, though. I am powering the receiver with a 3-cell lipo and that seemed to be fine when i tried it, but I'm stuck on the transmitter end. I have some pictures that show my problems. [image][/image] [image][/image] [image][/image] The first picture, the black rectangle withe the three wires coming off of it: I think it is fair to assume that the small connector plugs into the camera as seen in the second picture, however I'm a bit confused about the other 2 connectors. Am I supposed to cut the big yellow video connector and off and solder it to the yellow wire coming off of the transmitter? Then, the power source. Can I just plug my battery into the black plug (through a voltage regulator that brings it down to 5 volts)? Anyone know what that connector is called so I can pick one up at radioshack? And do I just then have some wires that come off after the voltage regulator that I solder to the transmitter from the red and black wires? The transmitter is also 5v I'm assuming. Thanks for your help!

Whogdriver- Like the vid a lot. I saw that specs you gave norbwoj and I looked into the blackwidow website. I've ruined an expensive digital camera trying to take an aerial vid and I think it is time for me to upgrade to a system like you have. Could you tell me what I need to get such perfect videos as you? What type of power supply do you need on the plane? How about on the ground? Can you record the video to just any digital camera or camcorder? Thanks for the info, Ben.

RE: Engine Problems with new AP.061 wasp
I got a used AP .15 engine just a little while ago but am having some difficulties starting it. I can get it to start for about 5 or 10 seconds just kind of putting, but cant get any throttle response. After it stops putting for the 5-10 seconds, i can't get it to do it again. I take a break, recharge my glow starter until my voltmeter reads 1.45 and it does the same putt-putt thing. After my unsuccessful attempts, the glow starter is down to about 1.3 volts. My guess is that my glow plug isnt getting hot enough. What could be some other problems/ solutions for starting this engine? What is the fuel adjustment knob supposed to be at? My guess was 2.5 turns but i really tried all over the place. I read about starting with some D batteries? Think that would work? The engine in somewhat difficult to turn over but i dont think that should be a very big problem. Could it be the cold up here in the northeast? Any ideas? Thanks

RE: Eagle /prop/thrust/hover
Your charger will let you charge those odd number batteries. Just select the mAh level that is below that of the battery and you will be fine. Be super careful with the li-polies (even though you probably already know) because if you leave the battery plugged into the plane or charger, even with the switch off, or over discharge it while flying you WILL lose your battery. Happened to me twice already with my Eagle. Li-polies are NOT like Nicd or NiMh batteries. I have been reading all of the reviews here on the eagle and have been surprised that no one was able to hover with the stock motor. My setup is the stock motor along with a 2 cell 1320 mAh Thunder Power li-poly, stock folding prop and pretty much everything else stock. The other day, it was fairly windy, was at the field and was able to power straight up. I have been able to hover, just not as well as the super 3d and 4d planes with brushless motors. Here are some tips to get your Potensky Eagle hovering: 1) Sand the plane down- make the foam nice and smooth and take off a GOOD amount of foam at the underside of the tail section of the plane. I would say about and inch or so off the bottom of the tail. 2) This may sound silly, but don't let the antenna dangle off the back of the plane. Supposedly, (a hobby lobby tech told me) letting the antenna dangle will create to much drag, keeping you from hovering. 3) Make sure the main gear and pinion gear are not too tight, or too loose for that matter, because you will either shred the pinion gear(order a lot of extras) or have too much extra resistance on the motor 4)Try breaking in your motor before first flight by hooking a battery up to the motor and run it for a few minutes in a glass of water, just keeping about half of the motor submerged (DON'T LET THE BATTERY SHORT). This process will make your motor run smoother and more efficiently by breaking in the brushes. I suggest practicing first on a cheap radio-shack motor and battery before you attempt this with your real motor or battery. 5) Lastly- save as much weight as you can. I highly suggest you have a scale on hand to weigh your plane. It should be no more than 13 oz's, which is the amount of thrust the motor and prop (are supposed to) produce. 12 or 12.5 oz's would be better. That's it- good luck with your eagle! P.S. It's a lot of fun, very aerobatic, fairly easy for beginners to learn, very durable, and I highly recommend it to all r/c pilots!
