RE: 3905 Center Diff in an older E-maxx transmission?
That's what I'm hoping for. I could always cut out another chassis to fit the 3905 tranny but that's a lot of work and time.

RE: 3905 Center Diff in an older E-maxx transmission?
Nope, no crawling with this one. I did a custom chassis and braces for this one. Just wanted a fast basher that would hold it's own at the track. Can't keep the front end down right now without toasting slippers and have a more powerful setup I'm putting in it right now. Going to give one of those 80mm medusas a try on 6S lipo since I toasted my last Feiago 10XL. Brushless E-maxx Video

3905 Center Diff in an older E-maxx transmission?
Well has anyone done it? I have an older E-maxx that I'd like to install a center diff in. The easier option would be fitting the newer 3905 center diff into the older E-maxx tranny I have. At first glance it looks like it might work if I went to a single speed which is perfectly fine. Can anyone confirm this? Might save me some headaches. Next option would be trying to fit the 3905 tranny into the older E-maxx chassis. Don't really want to get into that if I don't have to.

RE: The Unofficial all things Jet drive thread
Wow smokarete's boat is wicked! I'm curious how it will run when it's finished. What about just using a single centered jet drive and maybe taking the vee off the bottom of the hull is it's flat maybe around 2" wide or so?

RE: The Unofficial all things Jet drive thread
I'm curious to see what responses are posted to Charlie's inquiry too. I have a 45" Dumas Scarab. Guy who I got it from had an outboard on it. I pulled that off (on ebay right now) and am wondering if I can put a jet drive (or two) on this hull. Be a winter project for me. Here are a few shots of the transom while the outboard was on it. My biggest question is it doesn't seem like the hull sits deep enough in the water? RE: Help me identify this?
Well guys I'm not sure how much longer I'll have this boat but I thought I'd still share some pics and experiences. I got the boat out to the lake yesterday ready to give it a run. I just got a 3PK so have still been learning how to set that up. Thought I had it all worked out but could not for the life of my get the idle setup correctly. Pulled the cover off the electronics and realized the throttle servo must have stripped an internal gear because it wouldn't center at all. So didn't get to drive it. I did set it in the water so that you guys could see the waterline and motor height. It's DEFINITELY sitting low in the water. I'd say it needs raised but I'm sure the boat will come out of the water quit a bit when it gets up to speed right?

RE: Help me identify this?
My plan. To put it in the water as is and have fun [:D] Honestly, I don't have a plan. This was such a spur of the moment purchase. Obviously we're all here because we like reading up on how to make these things faster and perform better so you better believe that making this boat perform as well I can with what I have is something that interests me. I'm such a fan of mechanical stuff that I just love seeing how things work and making adjustments from there. I think putting this in the water as is will be great for a reference point to see how the changes I make effect performance. I'll be sure to take a lot photos when it does hit the water. I really like hearing all the different opinions discussions on setups. If surface drive is the best performing solution that is most likely the route I will take. Especially since it wouldn't really involve major changes. Hopefully the vertical adjustment on the boat right now is enough to setup the surface drive correctly. Judging from you guys and other things I've read on the forum the motor mount will most likely need raise a bit on the transom to be surface drive. Testing will tell!

RE: Help me identify this?
Doesn't cavitation have to do with vapors forming in liquids while under pressure or something like that? From a prop or turbine or something accelerating the liquid? Aeriation is simply when air is brought into water? After reading I see that surface drive is when the prop runs on the surface of the water. Being generic I'll say half in and half out of the water. Submerged drive would be the complete prop under water. So what's to say this boat isn't just setup for submerged drive? I'm pretty sure the prop shaft is below the hull. The exact dimension I'm not sure. If I had to guess I'd say the plate above the prop is about even with or just slightly above the bottom of the hull. Are you saying the prop needs to be smaller for submerged drive because of the increased load on it compared to when it's used on surface drive?

RE: Help me identify this?
Sure I'd be happy to take some photos for you guys. I plan on putting in the new fuel parts tonight and will take some then. I guess I don't see how the prop position is relative the hull height. I mean a larger boat is going to sit higher in the water than a smaller boat that uses the same running gear correct? I know there are more variances than that but generally speaking all heights should be set based on the waterline when the boat is at speed. I don't see how that can be done unless you just make a good educated guess at first then fine tune from there?

RE: Help me identify this?
Thanks guys. I stopped in at the hobby shop last night and spoke with a gentlemen there for a while who races boats and seems to have a wealth of information on boats. I left earlier than I wanted to because there was another customer but I plan on going back to pick his brain more. He also said it was a dumas model. He mentioned that the motor is pretty close to where it needs to be. The pictures might throw it off a little. It has an adjustable mount on it and is as low as it can go so I can raise it about 3/4" if need be. We'll see how the first run goes. I picked up all new fuel parts. Tank, lines, filter etc....

RE: K&B electric outboard conversion?
Seems like lots of talk about what I'm interested in here so I guess I'll post a few questions. I've been wanting a brushless boat for some time now and waiting on a friend to build me a hull. While waiting I came across a 45" mono hull with a .46 K&B outboard mounted on it. I have an E-maxx that I'm running a 10XL in on a 6S A123 pack. I definitely have room in the hull for lots of cells. What kind of motor would you guys think could power a hull of this size? Would the lower unit hold up to that kind of power running through it?

RE: Help me identify this?
Thanks Ron, I looked at it last night and it seemed as though it was going the right way. I was pretty sure the curved edge of the blade was the leading edge since it was sharper than the flat edge. I'm so excited to get this thing in the water. I'm going to try and make sure someone is with me to take some video so you guys can see how it runs. I'm trying to plan a day where we have kayaks available so I don't have to go swimming if something happens to the boat.

RE: Help me identify this?
Valid point. I know using more oil can technically prolong engine life but I always thought to much oil could gunk up a motor too.

RE: Help me identify this?
I'm following you on richening up the needle. I didn't see to much smoke coming from the exhaust and thought that might be a sign. I know when I tune my off road vehicles you want to see a smoke trail. I thought it was pretty darn snappy running like that too. I know it has no load. Kind of like running an off road truck off the ground. It all changes when there is a load on it. I can definitely tell I have a lot to learn but that is why I love this hobby so much. These aren't just toys. They're miniatures of the real thing and that's what makes it so awesome! I've had about all there is to be had for vehicles on the land. Never had something that flew (besides a CX2 but those are easy to fly) so when I had the chance to get this I couldn't turn it down. I appreciate all the help I've got from you guys so far. I'm trying to be a sponge and soak up all the info! I'm taking the boat to work tomorrow and on the way back stopping at a LHS. The guy is pretty big into boats and I'd like to just stop by with it to pick his brain a little.

RE: Help me identify this?
Will do Ron, Not enough smoke coming out of the exhaust? What do you guys recommend for fuel? I used some O'donnell %30 that I used for racing with my truggy. I believe it has around %12-14 oil which is fine for trucks. John, which edge of the prop cuts into the water?

RE: Help me identify this?
What about using more severe rails on the bottom of the hull (Sorry not sure what the terminology is) Also the center rail doesn't seem that drastic? That usually keeps the tracking in the water straight doesn't it? I know when you make a turn with the OB the natural thrust direction change makes the lower unit of the motor want to almost roll under the boat causing the inner side of the boat to drop in the turn. It makes it want to barrel roll almost (extreme example but thats the motion I'm getting at) On an IB the thrust stays horizontal and the rutter just changes steering direction instead of trying to roll the boat. I know this isn't RC related but it's a photo I took my T&T and it shows that roll under pretty well I think. (I'm sure you guys know about this, I'm just babbling haha)

RE: Help me identify this?
Very awesome Jac! What hurts the performance running the outboard? Weight distribution? The way the whole assembly pivots for steering instead of just using a rudder? I definitely won't be racing. This hobby is all about fun and learning to me. Just branching off a bit with this new to me side of RC. Do those trim tabs work as well as they do on the 1:1 boats? Luckily I have a LHS close to me that deals with boats. I used to never go there since all he had was boats and planes but now I have a reason go in and BS with him. I see most nitros aren't running an air cleaner? I'd imagine there isn't much dust out on the water but what about spray? Do people just put a plug over the carb while transporting or in storage?

RE: Help me identify this?
Thanks Ron, I looked at the photos and see what you mean about steering linkages. That's an easy fix. Hopefully I can come up with something for the throttle without having to remove the pass through in the transom. Is it ok for the exhaust to be that low in the water if I want to make a couple test passes the way it sits now? I'd imagine on plain there won't be much of the boat in the water? I have a '65 18' Thompson with a Merc outboard so I have a decent knowledge of how boats work. Just not in this scale!

RE: Help me identify this?
I wondered why it was so low too. My first question was isn't the head going to be really close to the water line? Is there a reference point I can use to make it the right height? Is the boat runnable right now or should I move the motor up first? I'd like to see if it will run. All the linkages are already setup I just need to add servos. If I need to move the motor up then I'll have to move all the linkages and holes in the transom up also. Can I just patch the holes with some epoxy?

RE: Help me identify this?
ORIGINAL: scardina quite an odd thing to see an outboard on a mono, theyre usually reserved for tunnels and not much of anything else. i had heard about attempts at putting them on monos some time ago, but it didnt work too well so they gave up on the idea, lol.
Any reason why they aren't that common on the monos? I figured I'll go through the motor to see what shape it's in and try to at least fire it up.

RE: The Unofficial all things Jet drive thread
So..... Came across a boat tonight which I couldn't pass up for $50..... Which ironic since I just really started looking into boats today for my other project. I have a feeling this might be a bit on the big side for jet drive? Sure would be a big project. Cool none the less [:D] 45" bow to transom, No idea what it is. (I have zero boat knowledge) I do know those flex shaft lower units are pretty burly? RE: The Unofficial all things Jet drive thread
That seems to be pretty quick at 33k, crazy fast at 50k! The motor isn't dead set on being 1680 I don't think either. I just know that is what he's running right now and likes it. Can there be anything changed on the jet to change speed? They just use an internal prop right? I could also be possibly going to 6S lipo in the future. I know A123 6S at first since I have a few of those packs right now.
