RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR
I was afraid for that answer. There seems to be not as much choice for three bladed props as for bigger size shafts. Have you seen any right hand props? because if you switch some of the three wires from the esc to the motor, the motors turns the clockwise instead of counter-clockwise. but maybe the design (rudder etc) is for a left handed prop... But the question is: will the small bolt be faster/better with a three bladed prop...

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR
Tried to charge my nano's for another run after a few months, but unfortunately my B6 balance charger died. I was only able to charge nimh/nicd batteries. So I ordered myself another one. After all I was playing with my other boat (surge crusher from HK) and ordered a 3 bladed prop for it (grimracer one) and I started thinking about a 3 bladed prop for the small bolt. Is there anybody with a 3 bladed prop?

RE: New Surge Crusher Brushless Twin-Hull R/C Boat (730mm) Plug-n-Drive
My Surge Crusher arrived a few days ago!! Finally. The hull looks strong and all the hardware is just fine! I removed the 50A esc and replaced it for a 120A watercooled ESC because I am going to run it on 6s (2x 3s 3300mah). As said the ugly yellow color has to go, along with the decals. I resprayed the boat and I choose a fluorescent color, with white striping and a black hatch. here are the results. I also ordered a 3 bladed grim racer L40x57 prop because the plastic ones look cheap and poor quality. The length of 29 inches is including the rudder at the rear side of the boat. So it makes 24 inches of hull.

RE: HobbyKing NTN-400 Brushless V-Hull R/C Boat (450mm)
I you use good tape to seal the hatch you must be a real clown to let it come off. :) I don't use flotation in the hull but I am thinking about doing it. O, and I already sold this hull, it was a bit too small/short for the application I wanted it to use for. I was aiming for a hull that would run on 'rough' water. My small bolt flips too easy with little waves. But after one testrun I decided this NTN 400 wasn't wat I was looking for so I sold it. I have got a Surge Crusher in backorder ATM at the HobbyKing store. seems I am not the only one..

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR
The point is that I don't know what the gap was when it was new. But I think I'll leave it this way and see how it goes. BTW: I sold my NTN-400 V-hull because it was a little too small and I had problems with balancing it (due to the V shape) So decided So I now ordered the Surge Crusher from the HK website. This seems to be a bigger hull and it is a cat so the balance problem is less.

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR
Yesterday I discovered that my prop went a little loose so I decided to tight it up and put new locktite on the axle. But during that proces I also discovered that the axle (where the prop is fitted on) has got some space in the strut! I immediately remembered a discussion on this forum about putting a very small bearing inside the strut to prevent this. What can be done to minimise/prevent the axle to widen the strut? And if I wan't to 'repair' this do I need to buy a new strut?

RE: New Surge Crusher Brushless Twin-Hull R/C Boat (730mm) Plug-n-Drive
I ordered myself one too today. I also bought a 120A water-cooled esc because I am planning on running the boat on 6s (3s x2) wich I already have. I am also thinking about buying a grimracer 3 blade prop. The youtube vids are showing some Octura X440/3 and X440/2 as well. Too bad this boat is in backorder. Are there here other peoples who have got this boat in back order? I am curious about when they will start delivering it!! I absolutely don;t like the ugly yellow color so I am sure about repainting the boat. The decals are not my cup of thee either. Glad to see there is already a thread born about this Surge Crusher. Edit: I read on another discussion forum that this boat seems to be 24" instead of 29", Is there somebody who can confirm this?

I think in my Bolt it is also two pieces slided into each other. with the square shape. This weekend I was in a 1:1 boat with the small bolt next to it. that was funny to see. when the 1:1 boat runs full throttle and the Bolt at the same speed on the side, I hit full throttle. The acceleration was awesome! Too bad the 1:1 made some big waves so the small bolt flipped a couple of times

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR
servos are weird thing. they can malfunctioning without a warning. I've had a couple of blown servo's on my HPI car and there was no sand, water or something else. What kind of servos are you unsing? GBP 65!!!!!!!???? That must be a very expensive servo than! I bought the most el cheapo micro servo I could find for my boats, this one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Micro-9g-Mini-Servo-Futaba-Hitec-HS-55-GWS-walkera-RC-/150483893174?pt=UK_ToysGames_RadioControlled_JN&hash=item230989fbb6 I destroyed a couple of them due to water problems in my NQD Arrow Wind, wich I was able to sell a couple of weeks ago.

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR
There is a 'new'(?) product from hobbyking. the HK310 with FHSS, for GBP 39 (+P&P). But the TX's are expensive, about 16GBP. But after reading posts above from sdz and Von O. there is just one thing that keeps spinning through my mind. We first had only 27mhz and 40mhz AM/FM systems, and after reading all the info about FHSS and DSSS etc. I have the idea that the 27mhz and the 40mhz systems must be really awfull and occur problems. But in my opinion it wasn't. I never had problems with my boats even with 27mhz AM system.

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR
I'm not sure but I think the error was not caused by signal interference, but due to a malfunctioning electrical component. My first thought it the RX because this tells all the other things to work. Maybe a stupid question: but was you able to steer the bolt when it was racing into the wall? if so, than the rx seems to be no victim.

Rake, i'm pretty sure the water interference/jammed signal theory can be thriwn overboard! I use exactely the same tmx/rx as yours and I don't got any problems on the water, and I had the small bolt for quit a distance, it was almost as far as I could see it, without any loss of signal.

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR
That sounds exactely the same as I had with my Flysky and the FG Marder, but than it is always happening after I reached a distance further than 50meters. I think your best bet is an exorcist or a priest. Did you set up the failsafe? If you had setup the failsafe than the RX is malfunctioning due to short circuit or something. How did you waterproof the esc? because if you don't put ez gasket or liquid tape spray or something like that on the esc there will always be some moisture inside the balloon! Some people advise to always put the esc out of the balloon after each run, but I think that is not necessary if you wrap it in electrical tape and ez gasket or something like that.

I didn't waterproof my lipos. That is not necessary, because there is no water in my hull. But there was somebody here, I can't remember who it was ;), who sank his Bolt to the bottom of the lake.. and after a few weeks he recovered it, and the lipos where just working.. :)

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR
you should give it a try. Just as we all did with the small bolts, as you read most of us has fried some esc's and/or motors :) it also depend on what batteries you use, the higher kv motors needs a smaller prop because of the lack of torque. So it is just a trial&error case..

Rake, with most of the rudders there is a possibility to change this: on top of the rudder there is a allen key (small), when you loosen this on you are able to take out the arm and turn it over to the other side of the rudder. Than tighten the screw again and you're done

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR
hahaha! I see... I start being a little sceptic about the Flysky TX/RX. I use it on multiple RC purposes: The small bolt, My HPI Savage nitro and in my FG Marder (GAS). In the Small Bolt and the HPI it runs without problems. delicious handling, no signal problems etc. But... only in the FG Marder it looses it's signal after (50(!) meters, 150ft? I don't understand it and looked after it, I checked the battery and fully charged it, I charged the TX as well, checked for wiring problems (cuts etc) but nothing at all. It runs fine within a range of 10-15meters but when it runs for about 50meters the problems occur. The only cause I can think of is that the signal gets interrupted by the glow plug or the ignition. With my 40mhz RX/TX there were no problems at all... I ordered another RX (costs peanuts :)) and I hope it will solve the problems...

Looking at my history and my nickname BBQ here on the forum I guess I will be the first one to fry it! Unfortunately I can't run this week, because there is a lot of sunshine but also a lot of waves on the water. And tonight I'll have to watch ManU vs. Schalke 04 so tonight there won't be any time left. Rake, do you watch the game tonight? I guess you are a Liverpudlian ;) I should try to sell the TX as well, good job from the seller to send a new one though.
