RE: Wheels for 1/3 scale Waco ymf 5
check out Sullivan Skylight wheels. Largest is six inches but they work well and fit in the 1/3d wheel pants nicely. Mitch

Don't know if you've permanently installed your piano hinges yet Cejie. If not you could try what I did. I pulled the hinge wire and replaced it with a slightly narrower guage wire. The slop is negligible but the free swing of the hinge is now perfect. Mitch

RE: WACO YMF
They ARE counter balances but in aircraft lingo they're called static balances which differentiates them from aerodynamic balances (usually some surfaces area forward of the driven surface). My Waco has counter balances built into the ailerons which allows them to be weightless in relation to the hinge line when in a neutral static position. In my mind it was a good thing to do since only the bottom ailerons are servo driven on my project. Mitch

RE: WACO YMF
To apply perimiter tape I firmly seal down the trailing edge at the last inch at the center of the tape. I then sit in a chair and with the wing held vertically between my knees, wing root at the floor, and pull like hell while ironing down the center of the tape along the tip frame. You'll see the tape trying to conform to the upper and lower surfaces of the tip. Once you're at the leading edge all that's required is to iron down top and bottom with extra heat sometimes from a heat gun being careful not to shrink the tape width wise. Practise with some scrap material on a similar structure so as not to ruin that expensive pinked stuff. Mitch

Congratulations on a wonderful build and succesful maiden flight Mirce. I've got to say though I've never witnessed anything like the 3d routine at the end of the first video. Astonishing!!! Foolhardy!!!!!! Life on the line!!!! Horrible for the hobby if anything went wrong. Had to get it off my chest. Mitch

RE: Green models 120 Tiger Moth
OK John, now I see that your pump output cannot be adjusted from or mixed at the xmtr. Your only option really is to adjust the flow off the pressure side of the pump with a needle valve or clamping device on the tube. Also a tip is to be sure and use a one way valve near the muffler and from there use neoprene tubing to the muffler input. Mitch

RE: Green models 120 Tiger Moth
I didn't know that you can vary your oil pump output from the xmtr. The pump input voltage won't matter as the xmtr will vary the speed of it's motor. You then should mix the pump to the throttle so that at low throttle the pump is off and at full throtle the smoke volume is adjusted for the most smoke with the least mess. If you CAN'T vary the pump output from the xmtrbe sure to safety tie the lines on the pressure side so they can't blow off. No matter how you look at it though, the stuff is messy. Doesn't really matter though on a clear blue sky day. Mitch

RE: Green models 120 Tiger Moth
A suggestion John. Make the smoke oil volume adjustable via a needle valve, smaller tubing, or a wheel collar with a screw to clamp/pinch the line. I think you'll find that much of your oil smear on the bottom of the plane will be reduced along with a thicker smoke trail. Oiliness on the plane is caused by unburned oil. In most cases less is more. Good luck, Mitch

RE: AMR 33% Waco YMF-5 Build
Congrats on the succesful maiden on a gorgeous airplane. Did you change the stab incidence during the build? It should cruise with a slightly tail high attitude. A bit of added weight in the nose will help also. Mitch

Does anyone have a working Moki ignition module they wish to sell as from a bad crash which may have destroyed the motor? Mine seems to have quit working. I've not been able to find anyone who'll test and repair and replacement cost is unbelievable. I'm waiting for the newly developed ignition but in the mean time I'm down. Mitch

Is the new ignition a "plug and play" or was there a modified cam installed in your 215 to alter the spark timing? I'm also waiting for a new type module as my old one seems to have gone bad. Mitch

RE: BYRON P51 wont start
Yes, the engine needs to be primed WET. The thing with the Byron reduction drive is that it's pretty easy to get the spark by hand propping since the mechanical advantage is there. A starter will make the job easier but at the trade off of ruining the paint on that precious plastic spinner. Back in the day (I'm an old fart now along with Bob H :) ) once primed wet the start up was only a couple of hand flips. Good luck, Mitch

RE: WACO YMF
The two angled side tubes which have the axle at the bottom folded upward toward the upper cross piece. Since they're angled to the rear the geometry just begs to say "angle me some more". :) This is pretty much guaranteed to happen should the spring bottom out....which it will. My silver solder joints, real silver solder, held fine. As an aside, my 1/3d uses an exact scale steel tail gear from Peter Barth. I've not seen his 1/4 scale wheel set up but it may work for you. RE: WACO YMF
Joe, I made a fork from steel brake tubing but given either my landing style (poor) or a heavier airplane than yours it didn't hold up. What seem like stiffness in short lengths still doesn't make it any stronger than trying to hand bend it in longer lengths.....which you can. You can get 1020 or chrome moly in 3/16ths from some suppliers if you're really seriouos about a scale setup. Other than that music wire is the only other option that I know of. Good luck, Mitch

RE: WACO YMF
Balance is balance. Don't change it unless you really think it IS noseheavy ....sluggish elevator response in the landing flair for instance..... sometimes not enough elevator response for a good flair. The Waco really should have a sightly tail high look in level flight. Sounds like the manufacturer made the wing and tail incidences so as to achieve a level flight attitude. You can only change that by changing incidences. I'd say just go with it. If you remove weight from the nose it won't change the attitude of the plane significantly but it may make it a little more agile. Waco's aren't supposed to be agile :). Mitch
