RE: Pro link strut sag help
Already have done that and it works well, except even those larger springs will stretch and not return to center. Also the reaction struts do to the thickness will stick out above the wing skin a good 1/8"+. Not a problem if you don't have inner doors - just strut covers. Best in my opinion is get a new set of Bandit stuts with the heavy duty springs - let them stretch one or two good flying sessions and they will stretch right away - then follow my above post. It is a long term fix unless you really pound it in the ground then you have more problems then just the struts ! Also I do grease the pins with the e-clips and lubricate the active joint with tri-flow or Wd-40 etc....... clean every so often and re lube help stop the metal to metal wear and tear.

RE: Pro link strut sag help
Hi Dan and others Have dealt with this problem many times with the bandits I've had as I fly off a really tough grass field. The good news is if you are using Dreamworks heavier duty small bandit springs and they are the ones you have stretched (must be the HD spring) then simply remove the springs upper 10/32 retainer screw and use a piece of 10/32 threaded rod (I like aluminum) or a 10/32 steel or aluminum screw and JB weld (not the 5 minute stuff, overnight stuff) into the existing hole - once dry dremel cut flush or grind flush etc... Then re-drill a hole right next to it and blunt tap it with a 10/32" tap re-attach the spring to the new upper screw hole and your done. Should stay good for many many flights if not for good. The spring only "stretches" to a certain point and thats it from my experience. Remember to first rescrew the spring into the new 10/32" hole then attempt to stretch the spring and insert the small set pin in the joint with the e-clips etc... Remember it only works well with the HD springs for the bandit strut.

Who's running all synthetic fuel ?
I am seriously considering switching to all synthetic 10-15 % nitro blend fuels and was wondering who is actually running straight synthetic fuel currently and how do you like it ? What brand ? How clean is the inside of the motor after many hours of running ? I ask because I run regular 15 % cool power castor mix currently and the motor is always carboned up (piston, sleeve, head, etc...) and would like to see if the straight synthetics keep the motor clean while protecting and doing its job. Makes rebuilds a cleaner job as well. Appreciate all replys ! Dan

RE: Dirty Birdy ARF
Thats good. I only know because the standard MK tank in my Beetle is 12 OZ and I am replacing it in a very defined area with the Tetra and it fits and I'll take the extra 2 ounces. Also great tank for my YS's to boot. If you want the Sullivan above, I had to order mine from Alex at Sullivan directly. 100 in stock minus two now - [:D]

RE: YS 60FR Header-pipe length ?
Thanks Ferio for the pictures. Little confused now. I thought after looking at the information I and others posted that the Hatori 650 TUNED PIPE 60L (LONG) was supposed to be aprox. 15"+ long and the 700 pipe is 17"+ long or so as shown above. I also thought the 601 was the shortest chambered pipe in the group for short stoke .60's and high rpm props and measured 15"+. Perhaps I am missing something here. Did they change the overall length or length to the first chamber when they went to the ribbed style finish vs the older smooth ? My pipes are the non-ribbed smooth pipes like Ferio posted. Wish I had an older and newer Hatori catalog with exact spec's to have for reference - can't find online. Anyone have a pdf. version with pictures and specifications of these pipes ? Attached is a pic from an ad I found showing a guy selling a Hatori 650 pipe with his Hanno, doesn't look like Ferio's above more like the 15" spec I thought it was - only a picture however. I have a hatori that looks just like the one in the ad and measures 15-1/4" (confusing). Just search Hatori 650 and the ad will come up. Also the other pic is the 700 pipe and specs right from HatoriUSA website and the pipe is 17" long.........

Thanks for the replies and tuning information. I've tuned these types of motors before little at at a time, but appreciate the refresher coarse. Dave, your right pipe is too long - I'll order the right one. Famous client LOL, just a broke client at this point ! [:D]

RE: YS 60FR Header-pipe length ?
Thanks Will, The plane really is extremely well constructed and finished. Wish I had the skill-set and patience to build one of these MK classics. I'm afraid we all have gifts in life and mine is not fine model building - ARF's OK, but not stick building etc... I could have took the easy road and left the std. YS .61 in there that came with the plane or changed it out to one of the AR's I have which I believe would be correct for this period and plane, however I love the sound of short stroke on the pipe - reminds me of when I was a kid starting out in pattern - thats all there was. The modifications are not a big deal to fit the YS 60 FR and header pipe, just a little time consuming to get it right. Also the grass field that I fly on makes it really tough to swing a 12" prop without mowing the lawn. May even have to try a 10x10 to 10x12 apc to get ground clearance. Pavement is a good hour and half away ! The only problem I am having is identifying the Hatori pipe I have - it measures aprox. 17" from end to end which I believe rules it out as a Hatori 601 and makes it either a 650 or 700. Its the old style smooth tapered finish no ribs or bumps where there are baffles. Hopefully someone can definitely state exactly what the end to end length is for each of the popular Hatori pipes (ie 601, 650, and 700). I did find some information on line, but there are some conflicts in the numbers - note the 700 length dimensions differ. Any help is appreciated. Attached are a couple of picss with sizes, but need clarification or confirmation of the same.

RE: YS 60FR Header-pipe length ?
Thanks for the charts ! great information to have. Anyone have a Hatori 650 or 601 and can give me the measurement of pipe ? Really not sure which I have. I have two, one was on a YS 61 long and 1 was on a .60 FR short, both pipes are identical and measure 17" from end to end of pipe. Thanks again for the help......

RE: YS 60FR Header-pipe length ?
Thanks for the replys. Will thanks for the PM yesterday really appreciate your advice. The pipe is the Hatori 605 pipe and matching header for the MK Beetle. I know you can go slow and take a bit off at a time, but its nice to have a reference (like with the MACS charts) however under the normal hatori pattern setup for this motor (ie; 605 pipe, 11x7 - 11x8 apc prop, 15-20 % nitro, etc....) there has to be a ton of experience on this motor. Will's advice is the type I was looking for reference. Beetle is the classic that I purchased last year from RustyB. Great guy and a great plane - looking forward to getting her finally going in the next week or so.

YS 60FR Header-pipe length ?
Setting up a Beetle with a YS60 FR - can anyone kindly share the best length from the glowplug (center of exhaust) to the first baffle thats currently running or has experience with a YS 60 short stroke with a Hatori header and pipe ? Appreciate any replies, Dan

RE: YS 61 Long Stroke Engines
General rule is if you go down an inch of diameter then you have to go up an inch of pitch. Try an 11 x 11 or even 11 x 12 APC and match the high rpm's on the ground as the 12" pitch that was working well or better yet, match the YS rpm specs for the 61-Long and should be good to go !! There is both a sport and pattern cut as well for APC to help match it up. I need to run an 11" prop for a grass field that I fly at sometimes. So prop clearance is a must for me. Dan

RE: My Festo disaster!
Had it happen in my Flash recently - could have been real bad........ However, if you have one that is going to be a pain in the *** to change in a tight install, then clean and "lightly" rough up the existing end cap glued seal (not the screw on caps) and simply put a ring of hysol around that seal and your done. If you have a bunch of these, like I do....... then pre hysol that glue joint and your done if you still want to use them. I like the visual of seeing the fuel in that filter, but to each his own.

RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video
Hi Dave, I'm sure the new UF is going to fly great. Can you tell me if the elevators look the same size and area as the std. flash ? I ask because the two flashes I have are very "touchy" on elevator control even with lots of expo, inner hole on servo arms, etc...... Look forward to your flight report when you maiden it as to "coupling" during manuevers.......... mine all have mixes to combat roll-out.... and the landing aspect with the new flap and added wing area. Appreciate the info. Dan

Skymaster F-16 1/6 scale Grass Op's ?
Was wondering if anyone is flying "regularly" off of grass with their big 1/6th scale F-16 and if so, did you reinforce the gear mounts and formers etc... of the nose and mains landing gear ? Can the struts and gear take the ongoing abuse of grass flying ? Any other advice on flying off of an average (less than perfect) grass field ? Keep it light with a 160 or go 180-200 and get off the ground asap ? Appreciate the replies and advice. Dan

RE: Jet Field near Anna Maria Island, FL?
I'm actually heading to the Sarasota area as well maybe even look for a second home down there, but after reading the sarasota website and viewing the field "no fly" boundaries it looked very tight to me for jets. Maybe I'm spoiled where I fly, but it really did look tight when your whipping around at full throttle. Maybe someone from that area or the SRQ club will chime in and give the 411 on this. Also, no fuel on the field period - so plan a catch device ahead if you plan to fly there if I read the rules right on their site. I thought there was another field suitable for jets in the Venice area, but not sure. Good luck Nick.

RE: CARF Flash, best sports jet ever?
Thanks Chad, Thats what I thought - glad you confirmed. With the 120sx - its 6min 30seconds and get ready to land. I fly full throttle most of the flight and the 120 really sucks the fuel. Groung test before first flight with either my 120se or sx was aprox. 8 minutes 10 seconds total run time til empty. I set my timer accordingly. Mines heavy at 24lbs dry so I need all the thrust and I fly off "rough" grass quite abit which makes matters worse. Video kindly posted by Chad below shows the 120se I had in it turned down to 119k which is 24lbs I believe. Big thanks to my friend Nick McDonald (awsome pilot, awsome guy!!) for the Video !! My Lightning is still my favorite jet however.

Chad, thanks for cleaning up my post !! [:)] The navy scheme is very nice, but can be a little challenging to see top-side. RE: CARF Flash, best sports jet ever?
Hi Chad, Looks lik a nice clean install. I was wondering if you have a side/front picture of your Flash showing what the cut-back inlets look like from the outside of the plane just looking at it ?? Can you tell that they are cutback etc.... I ask because I am thinking of cutting mine back flush as well to add an extra tank for more air time with my 120sx Flash and keep the added tank near the CG (forward near the inlets). I fly fast and 6+ minutes is too short for my taste. Appreciate any exterior pic's you may have. Thanks, Dan

RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
Sounds really really nice ! Thank you for that detailed response Dave, just what I was looking for. I take it that your sport landing gear is holding up and absorbing the landings nicely ? I am probably going to go with the black color scheme which I really like, but just not sure on the visual of black on a cloudy grey sky day. Look forward to all the great input on this fine machine - video would be awsome ! [:)] Dan
