RE: Corehouse Li'l Hacker
I say do it Rolla what kind of model aero engine can't take a few knocks, there are a few guys flying RR1s out there Rusty flies CL with one and Kim flies RC with 3 one one plane :) If you can't enjoy your engine by using it for what it was intended for then why bother? RE: Converted cox .049 reedies-Killer crank really necessary?
Wait what, sorry been away fro a while but do you mean I am running it over compressed or under compressed? If you are referring to the black stuff on the tank that is not burnt oil, it is what's left of the paint that someone put on the tank. It sounds like it's running slow? That's because it is, it is running a 7x4 APC prop and rich. Since the video was taken I have played with head shims and eventually settled with how it was in the video originally , one above and one below the disk so far I have put around 30 minutes of run time on it and checked inside and all looks good so far. By no means am I telling people not to buy Davis is Cox HD cranks as they are great and good for high rpm glow engines too, I am sure a smaller prop and the crank would break but what I wanted to see is if I could get it diesel, not run a small prop. May have to fly it soon :)

Buy a 6 pack Of your favourite canned beverage. Drink one. Then cut up the can, you want to make the disc out of the thickest part at the bottom of the can. Cut it to the inner diameter of the threaded portion of the cylinder then drop it in. Screw on the glowhead and give it a try!

Converted cox .049 reedies-Killer crank really necessary?
Hello, I have converted about 5 cox engines to run on diesel 2 pee wees and 3 bees, two of the bees had simple aluminium disks in the head so they were fixed compression one of the bees and both the pee wees had davis heads. I know pee wees do not need a HD shaft but in recent months I had thought the .049s did but then my memory was telling me that my first converted .049 didn't have a HD shaft so I decided to go out and test one so cut the Aluminium disk and went out to see if the engine would take it and as I thought it did. I know others have broken cranks in them but is there anyone else out there running them with stock cranks as diesel? BTW here is a video All replies appreciated. Thanks Indra

RE: Loving the AE .2cc with video
Tached the clan today and it is doing high 9k's and when it ran down to lean was passing 10k with a grey 5x3 prop. One day I want to convert a Parkzone micro to IC power with a tiny diesel or glow. Fuel proofed of course. But diesels are really pracal for park flyers well the ones I have done.

Yeah I will post one when I can get one. The thing I like about the clan is how quiet it is I can fire it up in the park and no one really notices but this is a little louder.

Yeah it was pretty clean I was only running 28% castor oil it was as rich as it would consistently run actually but yeah surprisingly little mess.

Loving the AE .2cc with video
I recently put in a bid for this AE .2cc not expecting to win it. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330716851419?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2648#ht_500wt_1204 I ended up winning it for 1/2 of what I payed for the .1cc it arrived today and I decided to mount it and try to run it. My expectations were low becasue of my experinces with the AE .1cc but I was pleasantly surprised. I played around until compression felt abotu right then set the needle to what the manual recommends and then filled it up and primed. And guess what, first try it went I was really surprised. Here is a video of it running kinda shakily at first but it runs smoother at the end. I think I may have to fly this one, maybe on the FMK rainbow instead of the Clan .24cc. Yup my recommendation, get a few different brand and size props and future out what you like best for the plane a good compromise between speed and climb.

RE: Davis Killer crank for Cox 049/051
Hi cox had these cranks in the killer bee and and venom engines but they were not as hard as the cox international or Davis ones do would not always withstand diesel. LMH had HD cranks for the tee dee .049 and .051 for helicopter use.

Hello Cox international offers pretty much the same cranks and heads as David for a far better price. If you want one from there a cheap as it is now get it soon because they will be moving manufacturers to one in the USA so there will be a price increas of a few bucks.

So a good tee dee .020 with a lightene piston, SPI enlarged venture and pressure tapped should at least turn this fast enough to fly.

Well the first few cox props for the prototype were carved by Bill Atwood and the prototype .010 hase a 3x1.25 prop just like the production ones so maybe they did test a lot fo props but I do not know where they are but I do know a guy that migth. Pre-production sample of the Tee Dee .010. Pre-production sample of the Tee Dee .010. Notice the turned down .020 head.

I twisted a little more into a black cox prop with some heat. I have no idea how much but a little and evenly and clipped it a bit.

RE: Davis Diesel .46LA Deadstick problem
Well is it leaking on the ground? As in peak compression setting or needle valve setting. Remember things go faster in the air. Lean on the ground can be dangerously lean in the air.

Under compression.
A tiny bit of background: I have been trying to get the teedee .010 to run on diesel on and off since this time last year. I tried several different way of hardening the crank but everytime they would break from firing on just prime. So I get to my 2nd last spare crank and decide to heat it and drop it in used motor oil. Waddayaknow it seems to have worked. Last week I got a 15 second run on old fuel. I am waiting for new fuel and some starter springs before info any further on this one. I have decide to build a model that I have had in mind for a while. It is called the "Megamucke" it has a 13" WS and is a vintage cabin type plane. I know very little about the model as all I have is the plan and a Czeck article on it that I can't read. I know it weighed 55.3g or just under 2oz. And they used some 2ch system way ahead of anything we had in the 70s or when ever the article is from It doesn't take a genius to figure out that I will need to restrict the .010 somewhat to fly this model I know they did it somehow but have not idea where in the article it is said or how. What I am thinkin is a cut down graupner 5x2 to 4x2 mounted backwards and running under compressed and a little rich. I have never ha any problems running under compressed in the past but am wondering if any potential problems may arise from doing so for a prolonged period of time. Thansk for any help in advance. I started using these new yellow rubber sucky props from Bernie. The 5x3 ones and they are great for sport flying but the blades like to Pull Forwards occasionally and flatten out a tiny bit. This I found most noticeable on 061s. And the space hopper. [img]http://i.imgur.com/x88jw.jpg[img]
