seals wear out over time, even the highest quality shocks will loose oil. the advantages of having a kit is you can fill them the right way, most rtrs come filled all wierd and unconsistent, I took apart my buddys rtr bout 2 days after he had it and the shocks didnt have any oil in them, talk about a peice of junk.

RE: New to nirto & need help
nose up an back down is good, I run kyosho blue springs all way round, im not sure what i run for oils its been awhile, just see what the fast guys are running. all this talk i cant wait for spring too come and go racing again!! did you adjust your trim on your radio on the xtm, your trim may be maxed out so you will probably have to take your servo horn off, center the trim, center the wheels, and put it back on. if this doesnt work then there is something mechanically wrong with the front end. I never worry bout breaking my tranny when i land I just worry bout my next move on the track, you wont be fast unless you look forward and let your hands do the rest.

RE: noob buggy engine break in
the piston and sleve never bang up against the glow plug the head keeps the sleeve from being pushed up. here is a theory of mine, could be wrongguys that run cold weather all the time it doesnt matter, but going from prolonged cold running to hot usually shows a loss in compression because the piston and sleeve have worn in at a lower temperature so when you go to a leaner needle setting and higher temp the sleeve expands and causes compression loss. so i guess if you wrap your engine all the time when you run and make sure your running temps are close to the ones during summer time you will be alright. I know from personal experience even with tin foil my engines ran way colder in winter then summer, here in iowa it goes negative in the winter time and all the way up to the 100s in the summer time so its a pretty big adjustment.

RE: noob buggy engine break in
I wouldnt break it in during the winter but thats just my own personal opinion. A. Its going to be hard to keep the cylinder hot enough to crank over. B. If you do get it to start its going to be hard getting it up too 200 degrees C. Your Tune during the winter time is going to be way different then your tune in spring/summer I broke my v-spec in bout 2 months ago but temps were 50+ outside, I still had to wrap the cylinder in tin foil to get it over 200, 4 degrees is way too cold im not saying you couldnt do it but you will have a much easier time when its warmer. If its a relatively cheap engine go for it and see what happens but if its something you want to last I would wait.

voltage is power, amps is flow. 120 amps on a starter box is insane and not safe. im running 7 amps to one 550 it does great. peace

this just sounds like there is metal to metal contact where there shouldnt be. check everything make sure your crystal is tight make sure your linkages are tight, make sure your antenna isnt rubbing on something metal etc...... good luck.

RE: New to nirto & need help
diesel hit the throttle more on the face of a jump and you wont nose dive as bad, and give it alittle gas while its in the air if need be. also some people have alittle drag brake set up so that when they are at idle there brakes are on alittle bit. some people have this without even knowing it so if you do every time you let off the throttle its going to nose dive. I personally have no drag brake on my buggy, if I want the nose to come down I just lock the brakes up. have fun, peace

RE: How much power do you really need for a starter box?
12v gel cell all the way, mine last for a week straight starting buggies all day long on one charge. All I do is put in on a 20 dollar trickle charger over night and its ready to go, I actually got outta the hobby for a couple years and went to use my box and it worked great lol. That shows how well gell cell keeps charge.

RE: Xtm Xt2 .247 engine is stuck!!
you probably just have a locked up piston, this happens when an engine is new. Dont put a bunch of afterrun oil in it this will probably make it worse seeing as its most likely hyrdo locked. Take the engine outta the car and try and move the flywheel by hand if you cant you will probably have to take your head off to relieve the pressure.

RE: Will this body fit my hyper 7 PBS
ok I am running a proline crowd pleaser body for my hyper 7 but I bought it back in the day and I dont think proline makes them anyone but I would be suprised if a hyper 8 body didnt work, you may just have to manually drill the front hole, drill the back one first then lay the body on top of the post(do not paint it first this way you can see where the post is) mark the body with a marker(or a body reamer) and drill(or ream), then lay down your paint. Im getting ready to paint a new body for my hyper 7 just for fun for after winter when i start racing again and was wondering the same thing, if you dont try using a hyper 8 body first i think im going to try it so ill let you know how it works and if you try it before me let me know. peace

that sounds wierd running one carbon and two aluminum, you would think that it would cause some engagement problems in the long run. I want all my shoes tuned reletively the same do you know of any pro drivers that run that setup?

yea I went to check my failsafe recently and it wasnt even programmed just stayed at wide open with the transmitter off, would have been pretty scary with the new v-spec in there. a good setup will run throttle return spring and failsafe. peace out

RE: Which servos?
yea go high speed high torque for sure on your steering, you want those wheels to turn when you do. your throttle servo doesnt have to be as expensive but I would still run metal gear because braking puts a decent amount of stress on it. I guess hitec is pretty popular these days i know im running a hitec 625mg for throttle probably alittle outdated but works pretty good. Im running .10 sec at 200 oz of tourque for my steering old school airtronics back when they were the best. Have fun good luck!

RE: FUEL or Electric??
If electric is so superior why dont you see formula one cars running on brushless motors and mass quantities of batteries. Another key point to fuel cars that most people missed is our stuff gets lighter as the race goes and electric just stays pretty much the same wieght. so until we fuel up again our engines are burning wieght and throwing it out into the air. with that said yes there are full size cars that run over 200mph on E power but so what they cost a fortune and really arent practical for racing yet. I think mining of any mineral is horrible to the earth but what can you do we are too greedy to use what the earth gave us. Im really sick of this debate I love racing I love nitro if you dont agree with the nitro guys sounds like a personal problem If you dont agree with the electric guys sounds like a personal problem.

awww you should want to move up you cant get better unless someone beats you first. I was running 1st place sporstman buggy and throwing down lap times that the back of the pack pro buggy racers were running, never did race again that was my last one should have kept going up though.

RE: FUEL or Electric??
That big jump you cleared looks challenging and your bl car is very fast, but I wouldnt say its impossible for a nitro car to do. Foamy does that e-losi of yours have a transmission in it? If so that is wicked reminds me of my old touring car only electric.

RE: FUEL or Electric??
A properly tuned nitro can pull HARD. my hyper 7 with a v-spec breaks all four tires loose on asphalt and by the time they stop spinning its already maxed the gear ratio out. Im thinking bout gearing up just too calm the acceleration down a bit.

its personal preference, I have owned both. if your up for a good challenge go nitro, if you wanna just stick a battery in and play go electric. There is another thread with a debate about this check this out http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_9199659/tm.htm

Nice gradee Im actually using an AE silver bump box with a massive towerhobbies sealed led acid 12v battery jammed into the box, it barely fits but just perfect. I must say this setup kicks serious A$$, I can run this thing for a week straight without charging the battery and I have had it for over 3 years now.

RE: Making an nitro car
you would probably have to modify your engine mounts maybe even drill new mount holes in the chassis, and im sure thats not all you will have to do. How big of an engine are we talking here. Anything over .40 would be a challenge getting enough room on the chassis. Plane engines are designed alot different then car engines and since plane engines constantly have air moving over them they are easy to cool and dont have the massive cooling heads that car engines do. If you do get a plane engine too work you will have to figure out a way to keep it cool. I dont no if you can get a flywheel and a clutch too work on an airplane crank shaft or not but im guessing it wont be easy. There are alot of barriers and performance issues you are going to run into but it might make for an interesting project. Please do post pics if you ever get it done. If your planing on racing sometime you are going to have to spend the money and get a car engine, for under 200 bucks you can get a competitive engine and not have to mess around with all these modifications.
