RE: Knife Edge Spin Doctor Needed
KE spins = new engine mounts and motor bearings... especially at full throttle. but they do look cool.

RE: Great Planes Extra 300 GP/EP
Move the rudder servo to the tray and switch it out for a nylon gear. Remove the weight from the nose and you'll gain at least 0.25lb of thrust.

How did you end up with that much lead in the nose? Where are your servos and bat?

RE: NEW GP Eagle 580 Matt Chapman GP/EP ARF
Big one is not the same design. But flies super nice with a 85.

Wouldn't recommend any of those. Try the 65ax or the 55ax.

RE: GP eagle 580
Go with a tower hobbies Razor. You won't be disappointed. It flies very well with a .46.

RE: Tower Hobbies Razor 3D
Wing rock and hover corrections are probably due to it being a little heavy with a .55 and added tail weight. Also might have something to do with that wind noise I can hear on the video. Great Job. Enjoy! Patto, Direct linkages, much better.

RE: Gyros for 3D flying?
Just practice. You are not going to get where you want to go with a shortcut. Put one in a UCD .46 with an os .71 surpass and found out that it actually was more stable in a hover when I simply moved the CG way back than it ever was with a heading hold gyro. Plus, one day I accidentally reversed my elevator by messing with the programming. I got out of it safely but it was definitely a "... huh" moment.

RE: Tower Hobbies Razor 3D
The .55 is ~1.5 oz heavier you will have slight roll coupling, get the CG right and most of it will go away. Keep us posted! Edit: It is a little F3A'ish but it surprised the heck out of me when I went to 60deg elevator throw and it just sat there. I could almost hear it say "... and you thought I was going to snap".

RE: Tower Hobbies Razor 3D
Flew a pre-production and this thing was quite impressive. I wasn't sure what has changed for the production model. I believe I was just under 5lb with a .46 glow. With that setup it was pretty quick in 3D maneuvers and was hands off harrier and KE. Price isn't too bad either. I remember paying 189 for a UCD way back when. I'll probably pick one up and do a .46 with ultrathrust combo but I have to sell my big yak first. I am very interested to see what others think of the flight performance.

RE: Great Planes Extra 300 GP/EP
I would say just mix it out, If it holds a 45 up line you can deal with the down line. I think you are probably asking for problems by messing with the incidence, especially since it took us a while to get it right. Having said that, give it a shot, couldn't hurt!

RE: Great Planes Extra 300 GP/EP
It will be a fun plane with that setup. Not full 3D power, but enough to hover. I would recommend using a 6V battery so the snaps are crisp.

RE: Great Planes Extra 300 GP/EP
This plane is only close to 3D power with an 81 FS or a 55 AX. But this is not intended to be a awesome 3D plane. It is much better at pattern and IMAC flying.

RE: Great Planes Extra 300 GP/EP
Save your money and get the razor from tower. it's about 1 lb lighter and flies well on a 46 on a 55 it is incredible. one of the best planes I have ever flown, regardless of size.

RE: Great Planes Extra 300 GP/EP
ORIGINAL: catflyer
ORIGINAL: IllinoisAviator quick question.. where do i run the fuel line?
[sm=confused.gif][sm=confused.gif][sm=confused.gif] Well most people run one from one of the two clunks to the carb, run the one from the vent to the muffler tap and run the other clunk line out through the bottom of the cowl with a fuel dot. I'm really not sure what your asking, the fuel tank on this model is set up so that the neck sticks through the firewall just behind the engine and all three of the taps are right there. I have read where some guys are running the fill line inside the fuselage and just pulling the canopy to fuel it but that is something I would never EVER try. I have had a fuel dot come off in flight before during high alpha and ''g'' manuvers and the only thing that happened was a dead stick caused by the muffler pressure pumping all the fuel out into the air. If that were to ever happen with the line inside the airframe your plane would be ruined and most likely you would have some damaged electronics. I personally will put up with a little silver dot on the bottom of my cowling and the possibility of a dead stick rather than a ruined airplane. (BTW if you loose it in flight you will see the fuel spraying out whereas inside the fuselage by the time you realize there's a problem its too late)
Use small fuel tubing for your fill line and the stopper will stay in better.

RE: Great Planes Extra 300 GP/EP
It dries kind of in between hard and flexible (perfect for a wheel pant or a split cowl). It's a bit like a super version of shoe goo. You can get it at walmart. The name brand is "goop", they have craft goop, shoe goop, and all kinds of other goop. I have grown fond of the automotive goop. It's in the automotive section. Before you coat the wheel pant, it is probably best to knock out the blind nuts so you don't goop them.

RE: Great Planes Extra 300 GP/EP
try coating the inside of your wheel pants with a thin coat of automotive "goop" if they start to crack. I have done this on a few larger planes and it works out very well. Sometimes it takes more than one layer though.

RE: Great Planes Extra 300 GP/EP
mount the servo opposite the way shown in the manual (servo top inside motor box) and drill a hole in the firewall for the pushrod.

RE: Great Planes Extra 300 GP/EP
I think you are going to come in at +7lb and possibly rip a control surface off using the 5625. I use those on 25%. A small piece of foam in between the canopy and the firewall also helps secure the hatch. Just be sure either way when you take off that the canopy is pulled back!!!

RE: NEW GP Eagle 580 Matt Chapman GP/EP ARF
Put the servos in the tail and you'll be fine. If you still end up a bit nose heavy, there were mounts for the elevator servos in the tail, but I would try to avoid it if possible.

RE: The Red Bull Air Race: two questions
We'll argue about it for several pages, neither of us will convince the other. We'll act incredulous that the other side does not understand the simple and obvious truth of our claims. Everyone else will get tired of reading it, and the thread will get locked for having departed from its original topic...meanwhile, we'll both still believe we're right.
Thanks for cutting to the chase. Only two comments to answer your questions and then we can end it. 1. The difference is all in how you view it. Different points of view can lead to different conclusions (pilot perspective vs engineering) 2. My "proof" (without getting into it too much): B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, M.S in Aerospace Engineering specializing in control systems and flight mechanics. Please, let's just leave it at that.[sm=47_47.gif]

RE: Great Planes Extra 300 GP/EP
Use some dubro HD servo arms. You'll get a little more slop but not nearly as much as moving the control horn in.
