RE: Pershing Vs Panther
Thanks for the clearer pictures, Googling the serial numbers brought me more photographs of the loadout Sgt. Early's T26E3 had on that day: [image]http://www.modelforum.cz/download/file.php?id=762072&sid=ae9191fb724e108f7c3c578296ecefc8&mode=view[/image] This clearly shows the serial numbers [image]http://www.modelforum.cz/download/file.php?id=762071&sid=ae9191fb724e108f7c3c578296ecefc8&mode=view[/image] [image]http://www.modelforum.cz/download/file.php?id=762069&sid=ae9191fb724e108f7c3c578296ecefc8&mode=view[/image] [image]http://www.modelforum.cz/download/file.php?id=762206&sid=ae9191fb724e108f7c3c578296ecefc8&mode=view[/image]

RE: Pershing Vs Panther
I know I've dug up a 2 year old thread, but I was wondering if anyone modelled the Pershing that killed the Panther in this engagement in any scale? I've found examples of the destroyed Panther but nothing on the Pershing other than it coming from Pershing # 26, of Co E 32d Regt (thanks Pattoncommander).

Bounce shots are the IR equivalent of the golden BB that jams the turret (Tiger 131), or the round that finds the sprocket of the Fort Knox (?) Elefant as it scored a mobility kill.

Cool Panther variant
I was browsing Flickr and came upon this: [image]http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4087/5227780422_6013116f18.jpg[/image] I wonder how long it went before the gearboxes broke? The caption for the photo said it was a Bergepanther and has since been restored at Saumur.

RE: Buying a Tamiya tank
The Tiger I doesn't have headlights and brakelights like the Pershing and Sherman 105mm does. It does have the gun muzzle flash and radio operator machine gun flash, all the Tamiya full option tanks have that.

RE: Buying a Tamiya tank
I have all three and must say that I prefer my Pershing to the other two for battling around the yard with my friends. The key words someone on here said in the past was "wiring hygiene" and rightly so. The hull is double bottomed and cramped as a result. It does take quite a bit more effort to set up to run perfect but once thats done its a rugged and reliable performer. You only need to see the relative lack of aftermarket upgrades to see how good this tank is. It has all the possible electronics options that Tamiya offers - running lights, recoil, as well as the standard sound and movement. My Sherman 105mm has no recoil while featuring lights, the M51 "Super" Sherman has no lights, the same goes for the Tiger though they both have recoil.

RE: Damaged Fenders
I find melted plastic too curvey to simulate crumpled metal fenders. If you wished to have damaged fenders you might want to cut off the damaged plastic pieces and have them replaced with similar shaped brass sheets mangled to simulate damage. Heng Long, Tamiya, and WeCoHe all put out their own Panther G late model, no one ever accused WeCoHe or Tamiya of "borrowing" other people's designs......

I actually like the 35rctank electronics that was fitted to a Leopard 1a4 and was posted here some time as a video where the gun was stabilised on 2 axis if needed. Tamiya only has stabilisation on the vertical axis for the Leopard 2a6

RE: The origins of Heng Long tank designs
I respectfully disagree. HL could have measured up any other varient of the tanks but chooses to produce the exact same varients as Tamiya - early production Tiger, hybrid T26E3/M26 (WW2 and Korean War), Panther G late model, replete with the same fitments (crew heater dome, flame surpressors). There is just too much similarity to write it off as coincidence. Take for example the Wasan Tiger - it models a mid Tiger with the necessary differences - no one called it a direct copy.

RE: The origins of Heng Long tank designs
I'm hardly bashing Tamiya at all, not when I have had a dozen of them myself and not a single Heng Long yet! Tamiya and Heng Long are two 1/16th scale tank manufacturers at two different price points and market appeal. I started the thread suspecting that almost all of Heng Long's product line was copied from someone else, but am *genuinely* surprised that some of their more trouble-free tanks could possibly be their own design. Heng Longs are great as a hundred dollar tank, but measured tank against tank, I'm pretty sure that Tamiyas'll be better anytime. Perhaps I'll buy myself an SP gun like a StuG or Jagdpanther to pot soda cans around the yard to see the difference for myself real soon

So it seems (pending any other obscure manufacturer I might have missed out) that Heng Long is a more established and credible RC tank manufacturer than most of us fed on the superiority of Tamiya would believe, it seems like the Pz III and IV platforms, in addition to the Type 99 are their own work...

RE: Which Panzers had pivot turning capability?
Yep, if you were standing next to a tank as it churned up the earth underneath its tracks, or the terrible screeching of metal tracks or grinding of rubber trackpads then you will understand the stresses involved and how not recommended it is!

RE: Which Panzers had pivot turning capability?
Fast or slow, a pivot is a pivot, given the stresses involved in driving two tracks each loaded with 20-plus tons in opposite directions, even modern tanks don't pivot that quickly either. Given the well known weaknesses of the German tank transmission its a surprise it could even do it at all!

RE: Panther G (Finally) Finished
I like how the weathering is "just right", German tanks didn't last so long on the battlefield that they could accumulate extensive rust on their armor.

My brief googling brought up information that the British ordnance factory that made rounds for the L30A1 had been closed for a while hence the depleting ammo stock and thus the consideration for the German L55 - then later information had a Belgian company start making compatible rounds. Not too sure what the Challengers are going to mount now - do you have the latest information

RE: M1 Abrams in a battle with congress
I read somewhere that the Challys were trialling the smoothbore L55 to replace the their rifled gun due to lack of ammunition - I hope that doesn't happen. Otherwise it'll only be as good as the Abrams and Leopards, not any better.

RE: Inertia hull sway in RC 1/35th
I'm wondering if it'll be possible to attach servos to the front and rear torsion bars, and through mixing with the throttle channel, simulate this? Perhaps a few Turnigy servo speed regulators are required too, but I wonder how the servos like being pushed around by the tank's normal suspension movement, which I'm told isn't healthy for servos...

RE: My New Heng Long Panther G Late Version
Those are some craptastic build quality there. I don't know whether it is par for course for the HL upgraded gearbox but I've never seen anything that bad with a Tamiya or Impact gearbox. You could shim out the side-to-side play with washers, but the wobble points to a gear that is too big for the shaft that it sits on. Can't see this ending well, you might want to ask your supplier if all the gearboxes of this type are like that.

RE: Adjustable IR range.
You'd need to take the Shermans' 45-degree defense out of the way for that lone Tiger to begin to have a chance! Even so he would need to knock out 2-3 of the Shermans (in medium 5 hits/tank) before the Shermans close down the 19 meter gap between the Tiger's effective gun range and the Shermans'. After that it becomes a hit point slugfest which the Tiger would lose because of its slow rate of fire. Those odds and scenario are based on well-documented history, and you'd need to do likewise for every type of tank. For example, how many StuGs are equivalent to one King Tiger? Or, how does a Sherman 76mm compare to a Firefly to a 105mm to a M51? The game would be more realistic, for sure, but exceedingly complex. And if we were getting into realism, who would want to be in a Ronson to be one-shot killed by a Tiger 30 seconds into the game?

RE: Adjustable IR range.
Unless it was the classic 5 v 1 situation where a single 88mm gunned Tiger with full IR range was facing off 5 range-shortened Shermans, I don't see there being any encouragement for Sherman drivers to be cannon fodder. In any case, most tankers tend to buy the "hero" heavy and medium tanks where in reality the WW2 battlefield had a lot more light tanks and SP guns with the heavies being rare. It is a noble effort to seek greater realism, but when a Panzer IV costs as much as a Tiger I, it wouldn't be hard to understand why most go for the heavy tanks, and historical accuracy isn't quite there anymore due to the bias to heavy classes.

RE: Why the Trees?
Tanks in the field eventually get weathered to such an extent that the log blends with the rest of the tank, more so if it'd been used for its intended purpose. In any case a stranded tank is a dead tank, I would be taking my chances carrying a log around than worrying about camouflage first.

RE: Leopard 2A6 Radio Problem
If you got all the paperwork that comes with the tank kit there is a test mode that IIRC runs through a self-check diagnostic process - the manual does specify when the lights flash up abnormal and that's when you should send the unit in. There are override switches on the MFU itself that allow you to activate special functions without using the radio.
