RE: F27 STRYKER Part 7 : The Basics To The Darkest of Dark
finster: soldering worked great. Checked motor and it runs great. I don't have any aluminium but I do have some plexiglass in my work shop. I wll try that. Thanks again for the help. Now I can fly tomorrow [:D]

finster1: I think I incurred this damage because I found one motor mount screw had backed out slightly-I did not use thread lock. I like the amuminum disc idea, that's a great idea. I will resolder those connections to the stud as you described.

Has this ever happened to anyone? The lead from the motor broke off, during flight no less. Also have broken motor mount-probably related? How can I fix the motor?

RE: flyzone diablo
Badboy1, I reenforced my front fuse by inserting 2mm CF rods into the fat part of the fuse from the front, worked great. As far as the dealing with the tail heavy issue, that's easy to correct with a slightly heavier battery. The stock Diablo battery weighs 4.6 oz. The EVO25 3s 1500mah weighs 4.37, even less by a few grams. I recommend a battery like a EVO25 2170mah at 6.1 oz, http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXRVZ3&P=0 You'll balance the plane better and enjoy longer flight times. The EVO25 2500mah weighs 7.3 oz and would balance good also without any modifications to plane. The eflux tube is great idea. I never ran that motor so I am not able to comment on your proposed set up. Don't even bother with any mods to the trainer wing, go strait to the advanced wings and epoxy them to the fuse, magnets are not enough. I though about lightening my plane also but I felt like it would only weaken the plane.

animal, If I remember coreclty the wicked extreme comes with bare leads. You'll need to solder 3.5mm bullets onto them. Also for your ESC, look at the Thunderbird 54. It's comparable in price, gives you more amps and is made by Castle Creations so you know it good quality. The Wicked Extreme will bolt right to the XF Fan. It doesnt get any easier. Good Luck.

animal, Yes, the esc leads and the motor leads are both 3.5mm bullets. Plug-n-Play my friend. The difference between the 20-40-4040 and the 24-45-3790 is slight. What would make a bigger difference is the EDF itself. The hyperflow is just not going to put out much thrust or super high speed passes. It just wasn't designed to be that way. It's good for small park flyer planes only. The 3790 will handle more amps and I think that is what your after right?

callum81, If you buy a diablo from scratch & dent for between $80-$100, that's about what they're worth. It's a slower plane, (meant to be that way) it is a trainer after all. Just don't expect too much from it. It's a lot more reliable if you already have your own radio and reciever, and defenitly install a BL in the single pod with motor on top, glue or tape the wings to the fuse also. Good luck.
ORIGINAL: animal acker I have been thinking about it, the ailerons on the stock wing thing. What if the flaps for the ailerons were not part of the actual wing but instead affixed to the trailing edge of the wing,(the back of the wing). That way the strength of the wing would not be compromised by cutting into it to make room for the flaps? Servos would however be imbedded in the wing, but would that small amount of wing removed for the servos make a weak spot? and what are some ways to strengthen the wing? any ides please share them. Your all a pretty ingenious bunch so lets try to put our heads together. I would use the flaps and servos from a set of crashed advanced wings.
See attached PIC of an example of an aileron mod on a Multiplex EasyStar. It's a possible example. I also remember some time back in this thread someone posted a PIC of diablo with an aileron mod on the trainer wings. If someone does do this mod, it would be very advisable to reenforce the wings. I think as long as you keep the speed down it would probably work

needy4speed, I had the same antenna problem with a daiblo I bought from scratch & dent. I opened up the radio and saw that the plastic mount where the antenna screws into was broken off. I fixed it by placing the antenna into position and then used electrical tape to secure it. I was always careful not to push/pull the antenna with much force. If you can return it, I would. What do you mean the esc is not arming the motor?

needy4speed, why don't you just fly your diablo with the trailer wings and after a few flights when you feel you're ready, upgrade to the advanced wings. Install a BL in the meantime and it will fly decent. Hopefully you have a radio that doesn't glitch. Gary

yea sparky give us some video. Any questions you have on the Hyperflow can be found at http://manuals.hobbico.com/gpm/gpmg3910-3911-manual-v1_1.pdf The stryker is a lot like the FunJet. If you install a motor/prop set-up, you can really get some speed out of it. I may or may not get another Diablo. It still calls for me now and then [;)] If I can feel like I can get a 4s to work I may try it again, otherwise I like the L-39 with DonsRC Wicked Extreme set up.

RE: flyzone diablo
Jr. Are you talking about the fan rotor adapter? The gold color thing atached to the shaft? If so, it's a 1.5 mm allen that fits that grub screw I believe. I remember that the rotor adapter was glued to the shaft when I took my brushed motor out. I ended up bending the shaft and chucking the motor. When you replace the motor, I recommend using a dremmel tool and gently grind one side of the shaft slightly so the grub screw can grab and not spin on the shaft. That way you don;t need glue and it comes off much easier next time you change motors. Hope this helps, Gary

RE: flyzone diablo
sparky, I have had 3 mysterious crashes lately. Just like you described, everything is going fine then all of a sudden the plane goes down before you knew what happened. I have narrowed it down to my Spektrum 6100 recievers. I believe 6100 range is not very good. I did a range test with my DX7 and it is supposed to operate at 90 feet with the radio in range test mode, but I observed that I was loosing signal at around 75 to 80 feet. My crashes were all about 150 yards away. Does your DX6i have the range testing feature? If so, do it and see if you can operate your plane at 90 feet like the manual says. So I'm going to continue using the 2 6100 receivers that I have, but I'm making sure my planes are very close to me. And I'm not going to use 6100 receivers anymore, I'm upgrading to the AR6200 receivers on any new plane I get from now on. As far as your Hyperflow, yes you need that tube to build thrust. I've heard of people using palstic bottles for their tubes, maybe that will work for you. The Stryker is a popular plane, should be lots of fun. I had 2 FunJets, which are very similar to the stryker and were very fun but very challenging also. I had to program lots of expo in my radio to fly well. Even with that I still crashed and destroyed both bodies. I'll probably pick up another one someday. Animal, When you pick up your L-39, give Don an email at Donsrc.com for all the details. There may even be a thread for the L-39 allready.

vertical, It's just a matter of time before you yank out a servo on landing. You should really consider protecting them, one way or another. When I tried the XF Fan, I just was not able to see a measurable difference in performance. Untill someone figures out how to make a 4s work, you're probably going as fast as your going to go. Just enjoy it for what it is. It's just not very easy to go fast with a small EDF like the Diablo has. If you really want to experiment, try retrofitting a larger EDF. Good luck. http://www.airpacmodels.com/twe/index.php?cPath=129 look at this site for possibilities

RE: flyzone diablo
verical, I don't know if you know this, but I tried an XF Fan with a 5400kv motor from Dons RC called the "Wicked Extreme". On a 3s lipo there is just not much difference in power. There was not a significant increase in speed over any other BL set up. I'm concinved the only way to get serious power is to run a 4s Lipo. When I bench tested a 4s battery with an AMMO 24-45-3790 a couple of months ago it sounded waaaay stronger than a 3s battery! It just so happened that the Hyperflow could not hold the power and practically decintergrated at close to full throttle. But maybe the XF Fan can I don't know. I gave up shortly after that on the Diablo and moved on to other projects. The XF Fan was an easy swap into the engine pod and is fairly cheap at around $25. A 4s Lipo is going to run around $125 and an ESC to handle all those watts is going to be around $125. My original goal was to make the Diablo go 100mph. I no longer beieve this small of an EDF can reach 100mph though, but maybe you can do it. I'd love to see you do it! If you can do it, I may just get another Diablo [:D]. I wish you the best of luck. Yeah, a watt meter is a super valuable tool. You can use it to check the charge on your batteries as well as verify your not going to fry any of your equipment. Since I've gotten mine I have used it constantly, checking amp draw with different props, ESCs, batteries, etc. It's really cool to see how your set up really works, and of course check how many watts your motor is handling. I've heard that explanation of a fuel line also. But what does the C actually stand for?

RE: flyzone diablo
animal, someone explained it to me once before and I can't remember exactly how it went. It has something to do with amount of discharge in amps the battery is capable of right? More C means more available amps? Does anyone out there know what the "C" rating on a Lipo stands for? I would be intererested in knowing as well.
