RE: NW TENN FLYERS
I finally finished converting the Formula to electric. It took some fancy footwork to balance, but it worked out. Waiting impatiently for a maiden.

You might try going at it from the other end... what size prop is recomended for the electric and what glow engine will spin that size prop?

Try a Tiger 60 from Tower. Great plane with excellant instructions. A very easy build that flies great.

RE: ATF kit not ATF!
Your first electric can be confusing (it happens a lot). The three wires from the motor go to an ESC (I would suggest one rated for 15 amps). The ESC will have 3 wires on one end and 2 wires on the other, plus a servo lead that goes to the throttle position on your receiver. The 3 wires from the ESC go to the motor. The 2 remaining wires on the ESC go to the battery (red to red & black to black). CAUTION!! The motor may start turning as soon as the battery is connected to the ESC. If the motor starts as soon as the battery is connected, reverse the throttle on your transmitter. If the motor is turning backwards, switch any two motor leads (it doesn't matter which two). The easiest thing to do would be to get help from an electric flyer or your local hobby shop. It's much simpler to see all this than to explain it. Hope this helps...

RE: KEN/TEN FLYING
Since Frank never got a second, I will suggest the following.......... “I would also nominate Bill Wheeler as sec/tres... “ That won’t work ‘cause I can’t write and would run off with the funds. I propose that we have the Union City club make the Paris club a “sub-club that would use the UC club officers and rules. I suggest this because of the excellent quality of the current Union City leadership and the lack of political BS- a VERY rare combination…. Bill Wheeler

RE: ARF's ruined my hobby
I believe in "whatever floats your boat", if you enjoy the outcome- have fun. The segment of the hobby I don't understand are the folks who invest the time and money to finish a plane (ARF, kit, or even scratchbuilt) that never fly them. They have all kinds of planes from simple arf trainers to giant scale multi-engine show stoppers and they never fly anything! Some of these folks are young and some have been "in the hobby" for decades, but I sure don't understand it. If that's what makes them happy, fine, but I don't see why they never even try to get a plane in the air.

RE: RC Sport Flyer Magazine
I started a subscription this year. They may have been all electric in the past, but so far this year they have covered all types of RC planes (gas, glow, electric, and glider). There seems to be a bigger coverage of sailplanes than most mags, but all the others are covered at least as much as MAN or FLYRC do. My biggest gripe is the poor proofreading. The first couple issues had a few spots where it was obvious that a word was missing. That hasn't happened in the latest issue, but one article had half the photo captions in spanish! Overall, I like it and will probably renew if it continues to improve. It's also nice that a subsciption costs about half what some other mags charge.

RE: RCAero JC Engines & YDA Engines
quote: Did they tell you what they had to do to get it running right, If so might be some help to others that have the same problem. Milton They never said what was wrong. I'm not even sure they ever fixed it. After the jug swap I was sent a new, never run YDA-56. The new engine had slightly better rpm, but started leaking gas half-way through the first tank so it was returned to Bob's Hobby Center. When I got it back it ran better and I think it will be a very good engine when I finally finish breaking it in. I want to make sure I don't mislead anyone. Steve Thomas at Bob's Hobby Center has been very good with both service and keeping me informed, unlike the person I originally bought the engine from (I did not buy it from Aussiesteve).

RE: RCAero JC Engines & YDA Engines
I had the same problem with my YDA-56. I was also told it had the wrong jug. Changing it to the one I was sent was no help. I ended up sending the engine to "Bob's Hobby Center" where Steve Thomas helped me out. He stood behind his product. Unfortunately, I lost the plane to a nooby mistake and now have an excellant running YDA that is only half broken in.

RE: RCAero JC Engines & YDA Engines
Interesting problem with your YDA-112. I had a YDA-56 that had a similar problem. I sent it to Steve Thomas at Bob's Hobby Center and he ended up sending me a new engine. That one also had some teething problems, but it should be all straight now thanks to Steve Thomas. I'll know in a couple days when I can test run it (dang screwy weather). I agree it's a shame that Aussiesteve had to stop his involvement with the company. If I had waited a few days when I ordered mine I would have heard about the change in ownership and would not have ordered the engine. I'm very glad that Steve Thomas will stand behind what he sells.

RE: BLIND NUTS DRIVING ME NUTS
Try finding a socket slightly larger than the blind nut, insert a screw and washer through drive side of the socket and into the stuck blind nut from the blind nut side of the firewall, then tighten the screw to pull out the stuck blind nut into the socket. Basicly using the socket/screw combo as a a "puller" to free the blind nut. hope this helps...

RE: Where can I get a Goldberg Tiger 60 ARF?
The Tiger 60 is a great plane! As far as radio's go, if you will want/need to use a buddy-box occasionally, get what ever your instructor can hook up to. Definately go 2.4 ghz. If you're not concerned about a buddy-box, I would highly recomend the Airtronics 6G that just came out. It has 6 channels and more advanced programming than any other 6 channel I know of (and is easy to program). Most people end up needing bigger transmitters for the programing more than for additional channels. I'm not saying you will never need more channels, just that programming limitations are much more frustrating than channel count. Hope this helps......
