RE: Which ESKY?
lol, so I got in trouble today because I had my website in my signature, a website that is all about helping newbies, BUT because I have my own forum too, I can't referance my website here now so I'm outta here guys, I've never suggested anyone ever leave this forum but they (RCU staff) are worried about it anyways. The thread about the HBFP V2 was even deleted because it showed my website name [8|] So whatever, I'm not gonna complain or anything but you will never see me here again, later guys.

RE: Which ESKY?
you need the additional models for FMS for it to really do any good in helping you learn the basics, check here on my website for a download link for a bunch of FMS sceneries and models. When you download the addons, look for a heli called the "Amigo" thats going to be about the most realistic you can get with FMS in regards to how twitchy the real heli will be. http://www.myrcguides.com/FMS.html [image]http://www.myrcguides.com/sitebuilder/images/HBCP_Medium_-825x525.jpg[/image]

RE: New Esky 900!!!
The 900 is prob going to be delayed again due to problems with the main blades, but it is a 500 size heli, 550's use 550mm blades (I didn't come up with the class' [:D]) IMO ESky waiting too long to release this heli, currently there are something like 16 different 500 size helis already available. And HobbyCity in China just released the HK-T500 for $55 and thats a T-Rex 500 clone. ESky needs to concentrate their time and energy on getting the E-Smart back into production like they said they would. RE: ATTENTION all E-Smart Owners!!
ESky has been sending mixed messages about the future of this heli, but I have begun a quest to get them to re-start production of this heli. This is in a completely different class from all other E_Sky helis. They are all jokes compared to the E-Smart, at least in my opinion, I've owned all the E_Sky helis before. But Microheli will be making more then just main gears for this heli. That is what Andy (the Vice President of Microheli) has told me.

ATTENTION all E-Smart Owners!!
Big News Guys. I asked Microheli to make some upgraded main gears for the E-Smart and they said yes. w00t, woot. in 2-3 weeks they will have very strong CNC Delrin gears for sale. If you own an E-Smart then you MUST buy one. Partly because there are no stock gears for sale anywhere in the world and that the main gear is really the only weak spot on the heli. I will keep everyone updated on their release. If you have time, write Andy at microheli and say thanks for helping us E-Smart Owners!! www.microheli.com
ORIGINAL: karlik That heat sink is bigger than it looks in the tower photo [:D] I doubt it'll see much of airtime for a while. I'll try a short hover if the weather ever improves, then wait till I can safely fly around in a realistic fashion. Actually it was more of a fun project like your belt drive fp and I learned a bit I can apply when I get good enough to buy a bigger cp heli.
I did that same thing on my old HBFP, it'll fly great with that body on it. Just be careful in steep dives, the heli gets really unsettled because of the body and the hole in the bottom, I tried putting a flap over it but had the same result. I also found that the body works great for protecting the electronics when flying in the rain. In this vid its all stock running a 7.4v 800mAh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIU0mWjjFDs

I have Aerofly Pro Deluxe, clearview and FMS, I prefer FMS for learning to fly planes and Aerofly for helis. RE: State of the RC Heli Hobby
ORIGINAL: mydartswinger Part of the tension between heli pilots and plane pilots is that helis can get in the way of planes when they have an emergency or are just trying to take off and land due to the nature of flying helicopters (close in, largely over or near the runway). Another reason is that to many fixed wing pilots who are not around helicopters much, the large rotating main blades are very intimidating. Just the thought that one of those blades could theoretically break loose scares many of them. A propeller on an airplane, even the largest airplanes, are much smaller than the main rotor of anything over a a 400 sized helicopter. Plus the blades on a helicopter are held on by a small (in comparison) screw, while a prop is clamped down to the engine of a plane with 1-2 nuts, plus a washer, and usually a spinner with 2-4 screws. Even if the blades don't come off, they have a fear of getting their head chopped off (or at a minimum a large chunk of flesh taken off) by an out of control helicopter screaming into the pits (even more so with the larger helis). Many plane pilots also know that a helicopter is a complex machine (much more so than an airplane), and there is more to break. They also know that helicopters are more difficult to fly than a plane. As a helicopter pilot, their safety rests entirely in your hands while at the controls of your helicopter. As soon as you take to the air, they are relying on your setup and flying skills to keep them safe.
it might be because I started on helis but at a field I'm much more worried about someone crashing into me with their plane then their heli. But either way I don't want anything chasing me, heli or plane, I wouldn't stay at the field if there was a pilot being unsafe, but the club won't let people do that anyways so its not much of a problem. one thing I wanted to add about complexity, I think planes are more complex, I'm talking about the hand built ones, the frames and construction of them is far more intrique then my heli, plane builders are true craftsmen to be able to scratch build a plane, with my helis if I crash I can always buy replacement parts, but with those balsa planes, you crash you buy or build a new kit [;)]

RE: State of the RC Heli Hobby
ORIGINAL: ply2win
ORIGINAL: evan-RCU there will always be tension between the groups to some extent.
I've always wondered why that is. I'm just getting started in helicopters and I have been flying planes for about 3 years. I enjoy both and there are people at my field flying both. Everybody gets along just fine. I don't know why you have to like just one or the other.
I think its a problem thats gonna be a thing of the past pretty soon, with the reduced prices of helis and the sheer number to close from, lots of plane pilots are starting to fly helis as well, more then ever before. The animosity between the groups will soon fade away. I fly helis and am just starting to fly planes as well. Heres the question of the day: How many different models helis are currently available for sale? (Even if its a re-branded product, if it says a different company it counts as a different heli) I don't know the answer so I can't tell you what it is. [8|]

FMS - the "FREE" flight simulator
I'm just starting to get into flying planes (I already fly helis). I have AeroFly Pro Deluxe and FMS, but I do most of my training for planes on FMS so I thought I'd share some more info about making it better. FMS (Flying Model Simulator) is a free flight sim that anyone can download. There are also additional sceneries and models that can be downloaded to increase the "realism" [8|] (they're also free to download) FMS HomePage - http://www.flying-model-simulator.com/ FMS works best on XP, alot of people have problems using it on 64bit Vista, normal Vista will require another file to make FMS work, I don't use Vista so I can't help you with that. FMS can be set up to use a keyboard, USB gamepad that connects to your comp (even Xbox controllers have been reported to work too) or the best thing to do is get the E_Sky Sim Kit from nitroplanes for $20 I started using a gamepad like this I then got a E_Sky HoneyBee Fixed Pitch heli which allows you to use the Tx for sims so I used that but recently I got the USB E_Sky sim kit ($20) and its soo nice not having to keep spare batteries around for the Tx (Which I had to do when using my HBFP Tx) E_Sky Sim $20 - http://www.nitroplanes.com/e4chflsitrki.html For Instructions about installing FMS or the additional Models or Landscapes Look here http://mysite.verizon.net/bizwptdb/id40.html There are lots of places you can download additional models and landscapes (just need to use Google [;)] ) There are lots of good ones and then there are lots of crappy ones. I decided to take all my favorites and put them in one place for download. Beneath each screenshot are links to download that model and landscape. I am not the creator of any of these and claim no credit for them, each model and landscape are available for free download from other sites as well. RE: Xheli
I have yet to actually order from xheli (mainly because they don't sell E_Sky E-Smart parts, go to my favorite place, Ka-Planes, for them) but they have come very far since I first started flying back in Jan. They went from having NO Customer Service to being up there with the best of the rest on the online retailers. Since Jan they have increased their forum presence 10 times from what it used to be, They have people on all forums who can help with order issues as well as having their own set of forums (rcdiscuss.com), Its quickest to get help from them as there has always been problems with e-mails (spam filters) but Andy (not sure who he is but he solves ALL problems for X-heli customers [:D]) is very quick to help people out. X-Heli has also recently re-joined with the BBB and has already got their rating back to CCC, they've only been back with the BBB for 10 DAYS [X(][X(]. That'll shut alot of people up about saying X-heli is bad because they had a FFF rating. Very soon they'll have a AAA rating. I'm hoping they have the EXI's for $55 again, I really would like to pick 2 up at that price, too bad I was broke for the Black Friday sale [:(] http://www.la.bbb.org/BusinessReport.aspx?CompanyID=100056369 If you have the time and had a good buying experience, you can help them out by leaving a good review for them on the BBB website, just need to sign up, takes less then a min to do.

I haven't posted here in a LONG time but I have to add this. sure every company has problems, and xheli is no exception, its knowing HOW to resolve those problems that makes all the difference in the world, what isn't commonly known is that xheli has their own support forums where you can get acurate help quickly, if you had a problem and could get it resolved quickly then you wouldn't have anything to complain about but since most don't know where to go to get that help they complain. for anyone who is thinking of buying from them but is worried about their customer service, go see this, this is their direct support forum where you can get problems solved quickly http://www.rcdiscuss.com/index.php?board=42.0

I place an order April 24th for 2 motors (which were suppose to include pinions and mounting plates), 2 servo's (which the website showed in stock) Hobbywing ESC, and belt Guide rollers. Original order took 8 days and was missing 2 servos, 2 mounting plates and 2 pinions, after contacting the owner, another 8 days later I have to pay $3.12 shipping on a package from castlerockhobbies cause he did not pay the right shipping on it (and claims the post office is screwing me over) and inside was not the 2 mounting plates, 2 pinions or the replacement servo I asked for (since the ones I bought are on permanent back order cause ESky stopped making the 8g servo), NOPE I paid $3.12 shipping for 1 pinion. And that was it, never recieved anything else except a big giant "F" you, beware about buying from that place, you'll get half your order and get told that you already recieved your WHOLE? order and to piss off. And even after all this time still haven't recievd what I paid for, bad business. I got my dates mixed up. It was april, not march. "CustomerID# 21 Thank you for your order. Your order number is 1014, placed 4/24/2008 at 4:05PM." Note: dispute is in the process of being taken care of, will update when completed

RE: Castlerockhobbies is bad for business
no see, I gave him time to rectify this problem long before I started bad mouthing him, it was only after my requests for my parts were denyed that I started bad mouthing him, and will continue to do so till I get the rest of my order, it doesn't cost me anything other then a few mins of my time, its costing him lots of customers, if he'd send me my stuff he'd never hear from me again and I drop all of this quick, but he doesn't so I won't. But this wasn't really meant to bad mouth him (thats what youtube is for) this is just a heads up to my fellow heli addicts. I don't care how many people had good buying experiences from him, mine was VERY bad so I am simply reporting my experience, same as the Xheli thread and Banannahobby thread.
