RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
Here are a few pics of how I mounted the main gear door to the gear leg. I also included a pic of some little box that is made up of supplied plywood parts but the manual gives no hint of what it is. Anyone know what its for? Regarding the carbon tube for the stab pivot; should it be cut flush with the outside edge of the fuse before putting the plates supplied for the stab to keep it from coming out? Nothing in manual about this either. Jeff

RE: 12FG and Flaps Function
I setup as you described but forgot to use the subtrom and endpoionts. I went straight to AFR first. that was my mistake. There is an inherent flaw in these new radios; too much many ways to screw them up! Thanks for waking me up to basics.

12FG and Flaps Function
Have my 12FG and 6014 set up as 2Ail/2Flap/Ailevators for my jet with flaps on a 3-position switch. I have the flap1 servo adjusted in AFR with a point curve set so the middle switch position is where I need the flap to be for takeoff and bottom switch position as landing flap . I also slowed the servo speed in AFR. Problem is flap2 has no means to adjust it in the AFR menu to the same settings. What am I doing wrong? Jeff

RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
Dave, Andy and others, I notice you have your main gear wheel doors stay open when the gear are down. Dave, I remember reading a comment of yours that said you hit the doors on the ground on one harder landing. If this is possible, would you recommend retracting them ehan the gear is down to avoid this problem? I will use UP valves and this seems easy to accomplish. What say you? Man, the dual nose gear doors were a pain to install and get the proper clearances for them to work! I ended up making my own hinges from fiberglass sheet instead of using the wire rod and tubing. I could not get them to work properly and fit the curvatures the way I wanted. Next is the main doors. They should be easier[:o] Jeff

RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
Andy Scholl, what size tank do you have in your Hawk with the P160SX. In your video you fly about 10 min. at what seems to be fairly aggressive throttle setting. I bought the tank that Comp ARF sells with the package and will be using a Wren 160 and am curious what kind of flight time I can expect with the stock tank. Jeff

RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
I bought the sport gear that is made for the Hawk. Having never messed with jets before I am trying to determine the tubing size required for the retracts. I mic'd the stem and it measured just under 3mm. Is this considered a 3mm barb and should I use 3mm tubing? What did you all use? Jeff

Thanks for info on relocating turbine higher Dave. I bought the comp arf because of the reports I read about the other brands tip stalling tendencies.

RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
Did any of you who have flown the Hawk have to make any up/down thrust adjustments to curb any tendencies to nose up/down with variations of throttle position? Geh3, I noticed with your Wren installation, you cutaway the stock mounts and raised the turbine in the mount. Was this due to a differing mount height from most turbines? Thanks Jeff

RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
Andy, great flying! You give me encouragement since I just received my Hawk in the same scheme. Tell me, it looks as if you have put Tailor Made decals on your plane. If so, can you tell me if they are vinyl stick on's or are they water applied decals that require a clear coat over them? The quality of the kit is very impressive. Workmanship is first rate. I am leaning towards a Wren 160 for power. Jeff

UP Valves for Sequencing
New to jets. Just got a Comp ARF Hawk and want to have the main doors open first, retracts down, doors close; doors open, retracts up, doors close. What kind of valve do I need? Thanks.

Setting a deadzone at end of travel
Have flown sailplanes with Airtronics Stylus for years. When using butterfly function on the throttle stick, the first 4-5 clicks down of throttle stick travel are inactive which prevents inadverdant flap extension if the stick is bumped, etc.. On the 12FG the movement is immediate if the stick is moved at all. Is there a way to create this same deadzone or offset and how is it done? Thanks. Jeff

RE: Skymaster Service
From what I am hearing, this is a wait and see what you get process. It doesn't sound like the dealers actually serve any function here in the US. If they don't stock, what is the point of them being involved? I might also consider the Comp ARF Hawk at this point. Are they any better at support?

Am considering the purchase of a Skymaster ARF Pro Plus BAE Hawk. What are peoples current experiences when ordering from Skymaster? What is the typical lead time from ordering to receiving a kit? Whom should one buy from? Thanks Jeff

Does Size Matter?
I am contemplating the purchase of either a Jet Central Super Eagle or Rhino primarily due to there great warranty and what I have read about there overall goodness. My question is concerning the choice between these two sizes of turbine. I more than likely will not buy a jet bigger than say 25-27lbs due to transport limitations, but there is always the chance later I might want to go up into the 30-35lb. range. Now, what I would like some input about is, would I be better off in the long run getting the Rhino over the Eagle even if I am not likely to step up to the bigger birds for some time? I ask this because the Rhino is only about a quarter of a pound heavier. I know it will burn more fuel, but I can turn the rpm down or just not use full throttle as much. What else should I take into consideration? Any downsides to the larger turbine in the smaller airframes? Thanks.

RE: YS61ar/OS61RF-P/Hanno/ or Rossi61FIRE
I ran both YS short stroke and OS VF's. I would clean up and smooth the internal crankcase on th VF and run it with thelarge bore 3-needle card. The VF would easily run with the YS and was less tempremental. Only problem with the OS was the pealing liners.

Your correct , they don't have and wouldn't for 60 days according to the guy at Fedon. As much as I would like one I am not putting down a deposit only to hear it will end Up here by December or something. Why advertise something you cant buy in weeks? This not a custom $2000 arf. They lost me as a potential buyer of any of there products.

RE: Handling fee from Futaba
$9.99 handling fee is not unreasonable. They have to pay for the shipping clerk somehow. Also, $40.00/hr is inexpensive in the service industry. I know, I run a $10 million plus service company.

RE: Curare From Scratch First Flights
It is easy to bond the first end since there is a way for the air in the tube to expand out. The problem comes when you bond the second end. There is pressure in the tube and no way to get out. I am now drilling a small hole in the tube and I mean small to allow the air out that keeps pushing the glue out the end of the tube. These carbon pushrods are more than strong enough for a pin hole. Everyone I know has this same issue when building the rods. Jeff

RE: Lanier Jester questions
Regarding the big gap. Are you sure you don't have the cores slid on the dihedral brace upside down?? I think pvc pipe cement might work. Go to Lowes or Home Depot and get a can (it's cheap) and try it on a piece. Use epoxy to join the wing halves for sure. There should be plastic caps that go over the center section and get glued on with the cement. The cement holds better than you think. It melts the plastic together just like pvc pipe. jeff
