Question about Porting
Hello Everyone. Ive managed to get my self a Toro 25.4 cc engine, My questions are: 1.- Ive read that porting this engines would help improving power to weight ratio, is the improvement achieved significant, on a 25cc engine how much RPM would they normaly increase? 2.- If I understand correctly what has to be done is to make deeper and wider the intake ports of the engines, but how far should I go? 3.- Another thing to be done is to widen the exhaust port sanding only on the down and on the sides (not on the top of it), Im I right? 4.- Should intake transfer porting be done with the Moto Tool with a grinding stone, or how do you do it? Sorry for so much question but I have never port any engine and from what I´ve listen at my flying field if you go to far porting you will end up with and unusable engine. I fly at a very high altitude in México city so engines are quite impacted on their power output so these would be a great fix for my engines. In advances thank you very much Best Regards Víctor.

RE: weight to power ratio / which engine
Thanks a lot. I have a converted Mitsubishi 33cc with a larger walbro carb and gutted stock muffler turning a 18x6 arround 6,500 RPM´s but its arround 4 lbs so my weight-power ration is not really good. Is 4 lb a normal weight for a 33cc converted engine in your experience? Regards Víctor.

weight to power ratio / which engine
Hello Everyone. I understand Echo are the best weight power ratio engines to be converted, any how in México city where I live, the cost of an Echo trimmer is the same as a brand new DLE Engine. Are there any other acceptable weight power wise convenient and commercialy available trimmer brand. Regards. Víctor.

RE: Is a 19x8 to much for a 33cc
Well, I guess i´m gonna have to find something to do with this prop. Is it a proper way to scale down a 19 prop to 18 or 17 inches (Of course balancing the propeller again) or those this process woud really affects the pitch or performance in the prop. Regards. Víctor.

Is a 19x8 to much for a 33cc
Hello everyone. I have been flying an stick kind of plane with a converted Mitsubishi 33cc With a 16x6 propeller I was getting 8,000 RPM but not much climbing power With a 17x6 It gets better I tried this last weekend a 18x6 and while RPM´s goes down to 6,400 the plane behaves much better in the air with much more climbing power. The question is should I try a 19x8 MAS Scimitar prop or would that be too much for a 33cc converted engine? Thanks everyone for your help. Víctor.

RE: Decision: New Poulan 25 or Hommie 26
Thanks both, What happens is that I live in México City, and Echo weedeaters are the price of a new DLE 30 engine (arround 300 usd) I would really like to convert the homelite 26cc because in México we fly at a very high altitude 2240 metres (7350 ft) and we loose arround a 30% of engine power, anyhow it seems hard to make a mount for this new homelite designs with the angled backplate. Other than homelite and Poulan which other besides ECHO makes a good engine for converting? I convert a Mitsubishi 33cc and Im happy with it and it also has ears to mount directly without backplate to the firewall which is great, Ive been modifying it and getting every time better performance out of it, but for a 60 size acrobatic plane a 33cc would be too much and Im looking for a 25cc. As well I have been looking for a homelite with the flat backplate with 4 bolts but it seems they are not anymore for sell. Thanks everyone.

Decision: New Poulan 25 or Hommie 26
Hello Everyone. I have talk my parents to let me take away one of theirs weedwackers from their garage. They have a Featherlite FL20 with a POULAN 25cc the new design one with the black 2 bolts back plate and a Homelite Mighty Lite with a 26cc (the one with angled backplate) Please help me with which would you consider a better candidate for converting, I understand homelite is heavier but more powerful but the angled backplate is really something I havent figured out how to solve to mount on a firewall. The POULAN 25 cc while being lighter and easier to add a backplate, Ive heard they dont deliver comparable power output Please give me a hand, I would like to use this engines on Extra and Edge 60 size kind of planes. In advance thank you very much.

26cc Mightylite Homelite - Motormount?
Hello Everyone. Im just about to give up but I want to try one more time I have a 26cc Mightylite Homelite trimmer with the engine with the angled backplate. Is it a total loss for converting and mounting on a RC plane firewall or have someone found a way to do it? Thanks Oddy

Interference problem HELP please
Hello everyone. I´ve been flying with my converted Mitsubishi 33cc for a while experiencing some intereference with the Rx every flight at the same moments. Take off and landings I´m flying with an FM 72 MHz Futaba 8 channel Receiver I noticed that every time when I take off, there was a glitch which takes the throtle down and move the ailerons but it was quick and the plane goes on flying OK. As well every time I came on the final approach and take throtle down the plane glitch specially with the ailerons (doesn´t happen if i do a low pass at full throtle) I have my Rx and Battteries some 14 inches distance from the magneto Throtle is instaled with a steel pushrod inside a rigid plastic tube with a plastic ball link to the carb and an EZ connector to the servo Please give me a hand on what can I do.....I crashed my plane this last weekend managing only to get the landing ripped off and some minor damages. Thanks everyone. Víctor

RE: My Engine Conversion Plane (Mitsubishi 33cc)
Thanks both very much for your comments. Actually I do have the 2 tubes out of the muffler and and extra hole in it to free the exhaust.,,I already bought a 13.5 mm Walbro Carb but Im still trying to figure out how to mount the throttle. I forgot to mention that I fly in México city at an altitude of 2,240 metres (7,350 ft) Considering this altitude numbers, do you think I would need to use a smaller prop to get the optimal power out of this engine? It flies well with the 17x6 and the 16x8 but no doubt it could greatly benefit from a better vertical performace In my experience with glow engines, here in México City we cannot use similar prop sizes like the ones used by the guys living closer to the sea level, we do really experience a shortage in power given the altitude which we try to complensate with smaller props to gain some RPM´s. Once again thanks a lot and please any advice will be very much appreciated.

My Engine Conversion Plane (Mitsubishi 33cc)
Hello Everyone, Just to share some pics of my Weed Trimmer engine conversion plane. Its kind of a self designed Long John with the wings of an U-CAN-DO 3d 60. The engine is a converted Mitsubishi TL 33cc with nothing more than baffles taken out of the muffler, its original 10.5 mm Mikuni carb and a prop hub. I have fly it with different props with the following results - Master Airscrew 16x8 wood @ 7,400 RPM - APC 17x6 @ 8,000 RPM Even though it seems to have a better performance with a 17 inch prop it flies better with the 16 one, maybe I´ll try a 15x10....any comments will be apperciated.

Is it worth taking flywheel fins off?
Hello everyone. Yesterday I got my hands on my father in law HOMELINTE Mighty Lite 26 cc weed trimmer. These will be my second conversion project (I´m so happy with my first one which was a Mitsubishi 33 cc) So to begin I have two questions: + I´m staying with magneto ignition, so could anyone tell me if its worth RPM wise to take off the fins from the flywheel? + My first Mitsubishi 33cc have some ears that allows to be mounted to the firewall with no backplate needed, how these Homelites need to be mounted? In advance thank you very much Victor Arreola

Is a Poulan 25cc a weaker engine?
Hello, I have been reading some posts which implies that Poulan engines are not good candidates for conversion as they are highly restricted engines and would require heavy modifications. I have a Weed Eater Featherlite FL20 with a Poulan 25cc engine (the one with the backplate hold with 2 screws only) Is it worth converting it or should I better look for something else, I have converted some engines but never ported or any heavy modifications on them. Thanks everyone. Víctor.

Hello everyone. Im converting a Mitsubishi 33cc short shaft for using it on a 72 WS ugly stick Im living in México city and its have been hard getting an 8mm prop adaptor (hub) In home depot i found this long coupling nuts which might work, but in México there are only standard chord (not milimetric) Im flying to Louisville kentucky this week, any idea where can i find this long hex nut or any other suggestion of something that might work as prop hub. RE: 20mm Walbro for MITSUBISHI 33cc?
Hello, av8tor1977, and thank you. I have just measured again and it is a 20mm Walbro carb....It has the numbers 34-51 in the choke I leave in Mexico city at an altitude of 2240 metres (7350 ft) so maybe the extra airflow would compensate for the loss of power given the altitude Would the engine work properly with such a big carb??? Thanks everyone. Víctor

RE: Mitsubishi 33cc Conversion
Thank you very much av8tor1977 I´ll try the machinist here in México. Any idea on which would be the most recomended string trimmer brands to take the engine out and get it converted for RC I understand Ryobi is one of them, anyhow its 31cc version is already discontinued, any other brand small low weight and powerfull vs Others. Thank you very much. Víctor.
