RE: New JR Radio
Okay, it's a done deal. I sent your questions to Horizon about possible differences between the U.K. and the U.S. versions of this TX. I asked for contact info for who would know about the U.K. version if it does turn out to have changes from the U.S. version. It's been taking them about 2 days to get back with me on answers. I'll post what they send as soon as I get it! Bye Y'all Doug

RE: New JR Radio
Mlancast, I've already written Horizon with more questions about some of the most sought after features I look for in a radio. I asked about a Flaperon feature, and dual elevator servo function too. I like to have a radio I can grow with. When you fly some of the bigger birds these features are handy to have too. I'll post the answers they send me. I guess I could write them back to see if there will be differences in the U.S. version, versus the "across the pond" version. (Nothing against England, just not sure what to call it) To me, it seems odd that they would have different features from one country to the next. I guess they could have good reasons for that though. I'll post again when they send me more info. But...For right now? I'm starting to lean toward a Futaba 9CAPS. nearly twice as expensive, but it has what I want. I'll keep my fingers crossed, cause I'm hoping JR can give me what I want in a cheaper package![;)] See Ya, Doug

RE: New JR Radio
Guys, Does anybody know of any reviews that have been done of the 7202? I know it hasn't been officially released yet, and won't be until June. I was hoping they might have leaked a couple a prototypes out for reviews. I like the functions and all, but the proof is in how well it actually performs. Also, how do you think it will stack up against the Futaba 7CHP...these are the two radios I'm looking at right now for my next TX. Doug I sent an e-mail to Horizon to ask them about a timer function on the 7202, but haven't gotten an answer yet. I'll post what their reply is later.

Q8, Is the B5 stronger on bottom end than the B8? I'm looking for a good short track engine. Which engine do you like more? The normal plug, or the turbo plug? I've never tried turbo plug engines, only normal plugs so I don't know anything the turbo versions.[8|] Thanks

RE: top notch buggy for a newbie racer
Rodden, I've got both synthesized and non. I really like the synthesized a lot more. The JR XS3 is really nice. It has loads of features. We've got 2 of 'em and love 'em...But, I bought an XS3 Pro and it's a killer radio! The pictures on the web-site don't do it justice! It was well worth the extra money and everyone that I've shown it to swears it's going to be their next radio. The servos in both are the same and aren't that good. The metal servo that comes in the radio kit works fine for throttle, but I use an Airtronics 94359 for steering.

RE: Found an awesome deal
ELWAY, Let's talk about lack of knowledge for a second now that you brought it up. Ever heard of watts law? It's the formula for determining the power output an electrical circuit is capable of generating. It's IxE=P. I is for current, E is for voltage, and P is for watts. No, the letters don't stand for the words you would normally think of in your laymen's terms. Like E is actually for Electromotive force, or more commonly know of as voltage. Now that you know the formula, lets do a little math! 4.5Amps times 12volts = 54Watts 7.0Amps times 12volts = 84Watts Since the P stands for power, more commonly called watts, you end up with roughly 45% more cranking power (You would have learned little things like this if you had taken an Industrial electronics course in college like I did.) Didn't you say I was lacking in knowledge in your post? Thought so! If what you're saying is true, and you know more about this than the people who make the products in the links I provided, then OFNA needs to hire you to get their engineers and designers straightened out! Oh, and another thing...If you read the guidelines for these posts you aren't allowed to be on them trying to sell your 45% less cranking power batteries in the first place! There's a button on every post that says, "report". It's to report people who aren't following the guidelines. Sorry you got stuck with a bunch of weak batteries you need to unload, but keep harassing people on this post who are only trying to bring out the truth like Grahama and I were doing and I'll use the magic button to let RCUinverse know you're on here trying to sell them!

RE: Found an awesome deal
Hate to burst anyone's bubble, but all of the starter boxes I own require either two 7.2 volt batteries, or one 12volt 7Amp battery. The one's that are being sold are only 4.5 Amp and that's not enough current to turn over a lot of newer engines. I use only 7Amp batteries and if they aren't freshly charged they won't turn over some of the engines I own that have a lot of compression. No way a 4.5Amp battery would do it! That dog's barkin' up the wrong tree...it can't hunt! Besides, you can buy them cheaper from Tower Hobbies...if you can find a use for them. Check out the links below. RE: Official Porting Pics Thread
Yah, Gotta agree with Massivemods, This thread may not be perfect, but it's the one I've gotten use to. I may not agree with all of the content either, but like I said, none of these threads are perfect. I've been asking about cranks. Really, they go hand in hand with porting. They can effect flow to the ports if they're skipped over in the porting process, so I don't really feel like the threads off track because of that. Poor flow through the cranks means the fuel/air mix has a harder time even getting into the engine to get to the ports.

RE: Official Porting Pics Thread
Wicked, That's what I meant by saying "gotta know the formula." Half of the rotating weight, all of the reciprocating weight. The crank is actually out of balance when you're done, but is in balance once the con rod & piston are on it and rotating. We checked the flywheel, springs and shoes on a straight tapered shaft and found out it was almost dead on so didn't need to do anything to them. I've only done one engine so far as an experiment, but it would scream afterward. Wanna play with changing the timing on the next one. Won't be easy, but ought to be interesting. We've got all the tools at work to do the machining.

Personal preference thing for me. I always balance. Can't see a 30,000+RPM engine being out of balance coming to any good. On 1:1 engines I've seen 'em eat the bearings alive in a couple of days on one-lung cycle engines! Car engines too! Just something I always do. We have some of our CNC tools high speed balanced for more precise cuts. Works great for mini crank balancing too! Gotta know the formula though!

Skyline, Thanks, but already knew all that. Just trying to find out where to buy the type of epoxy they use. It seems to be sort of a trade secret, or something...Nobody's talking when I ask 'em where to get it. Most won't even reply to my e-mails. Guess I might just have to do the trial and error thing. Buy it, mix it up, weigh it, then see if it's nitro proof. If it seems right, try it in a cheap engine. If anybody knows where to buy it, I'd sure appreciate the info!

RE: Official Porting Pics Thread
Used something similar to J.B.Weld we call metal-set, it's an expoxy used in commercial aviation, but it threw the crank so far out we had to take a lot of material off of the crank to get it back in balance. It has metal shavings in it. It runs great, but thought the red stuff might weigh less. Do you know where I order the red stuff from to try it out? Thanks

RE: heat sink
Are you talking about the head being striped out, or the threads? Use a center punch with a sharp point and tap next the the holes that the allen wrench fits into in several places around each hole. If you're careful, it will mushroom the hole inward. Then you can tap your allen wrench into the hole because it should be slightly smaller than the wrench and you'll have enough bite on 'em to get them out. Make sure your allen wrench isn't rounded off first. Also, don't reused the screws even if they seem to hold the allen wrench pretty tight after you tap on them. It only mushrooms a small amount of metal on the top of the screw and they won't last long if reused. Be careful not to tap too hard or you could damage the crankcase mount ears. If the screws are tight it shouldn't bother the threads though.

While your checking to backlash and setting the spacing the way Adam said, hold off on putting in the dif oil til you're all finished and sure it's set the way you want. Just put a little dab of oil on the o-rings so they don't get torn and that ought to be enough til you're done making adjustments. The oil's really thick and you'll have a mess everywhere if not.

Grahama, 1.) The law covers items marketed and sold on U.S. soil regardless of where they were actually produced. 2.) As for how long it sat on the shelf? It still had the uncut Ofna factory seal on the box and inside was their most current sales catalog that shows the black engine on a buggy, so it was made well after the change. You can also go to the site below and scroll down to the engine. It's states "As pictured above." It takes less than a day to change pictures on a web-site, but more than a year after the change to the engine was made it still shows the old head in every picture. http://www.ofna.com/hyperPBS.html Don't know if you read the post before that said this isn't a lawsuit. They are not being sued! The most that will happen is they will be forced to update the web-site and put a sticker on the box for the buggy to show the correct engine. It's just telling someone to let paying customers know what they are buying. Also, when you said "your over letigous society" I do agree that there were too many lawsuits being filed for petty things. There are laws in America now that prevent frivolous lawsuits. There is no perfect country, we all have their faults. TNX, The seller I bought it from is called Gumby96. He has a rating of 99.9% after more than 12,000 sales. The only R/C parts he sells are Ofna. He was awarded the Square Deal Seal by Ebay for his treatment of customers. That said...I'm sure everyone knows what kind of cooler head they'll get. If there are still any comments, or questions I'm sure they were already answered in the past posts.

Xb8Racer, Yes, I always give cashiers back extra change if they make a mistake. I point it out when something rings up cheaper than it should too. I don't need the $5, $10, or even $100 if it means feeling rotten about it because I was dishonest. It could be that someone couldn't pay their bills, or feed their children because of something I did. As for the rest? Whatever...at least now people know what they'll get if they order this buggy. Ofna could have done that too in the last year and a half since they made the change. Everyone has their opinion. My oldest son likes the black head. My youngest likes the purple head. I guess to each is own! Everyone's informed now on what they'll get.

Grahama, The "get out clause" only protects them for a specified amount of time on each change that's made. This one's well over that amount of time...legally. Also, if you go to the Federal Trade Commissions web site you'll find that this catch all has been used so widely that they had to enact laws to govern it's use and to create limitations on disclaimers. In some states the laws say they are not valid in that state. You advertise it a certain way, you sell it that way, or else.
