Bovington Tank Fest June 27-28th
More than likely will be going down to Bovington for Tankfest at Bovington tank museum on June 27th. Anyone interested in meeting and having a bit of a battle?

Brighton Model World
Is anyone in the UK going to Brighton Model World? It's on from Feb 13-15th http://www.brightonmodelworld.com/ Have been for the past 2 years and get a whole variety of models. Have heli's, cars, trucks, 1/16, 1/6 and 1/8 scale tanks. Occasional dalek, robots and other RC kit. I'm there all 3 days if anyone else is going.

I normally use ebay for upgrades in the UK, there are a few good sellers. There is Asiatam in Germany, but they have a German website. Good service and delivery from them.

RE: 1/6th M1A(2SEP)???
I go to Brighton Model World each year and they have the 1/6 scale tanks, mostly WW2 Tigers and Shermans. Search for UK Tank Club, you should be able to find details of the tanks they have.

RE: Tiger 1 painting/weathering
You can get dullcoat from a number of places. Games Workshop on any high street do a matt spray varnish. Screwfix do a semi flat spray varnish (£4 for a great big can). Or if you have an airbrush mix a bit of Tamiya flat with Future floor polish to give a flat coat. The last one sounds strange but really works, I tend to use flat spray acrylic varnish though.

RE: Air Brush Mixture
For Tamiya paint I use about 50/50, varies on other brands. From chemists/drugstores you can buy rubbing alcohol (Isopropyl AKA IPA) which is far far cheaper than buying Tamiya thinners and does the same job. Water isn't that good as a thinner.

RE: strv-103C "S-tank" scratch build
You can always use a voltage regulator to get the voltage down so you can use the DMD. Guess it uses 7.2V, could use either a 6V regulator or 9V and a resistor.

RE: Tamiya German grey alternative
This maybe a really daft question. Does anyone have any Halfords grey primer to test against the German Grey? I was going to go for a whitewashed Tiger and thought about using the Halfords Primer as the base, then afterwards sealing grey+white with a dulcoat.

RE: What Tank?
I prefer the Tiger but in the UK this is the cheapest I have found for a new Heng Long Smoke and Sound tank: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/136420 £38.99 with about £5 shipping I have 1 and ordered another 2 for bits. Cheaper to buy new tanks rather than the seperate parts.

RE: HL S+S upgrade kits in the UK
The DBC/DBU is from Darkeith. My soldering is good enough to build from scratch. Unfortunately I can't do Bovvy. Really wanted to go but brother can't go and a friends wedding is on the Friday night so won't feel like driving on the Sat. Hopefully there will be another meet sometime I can make. Saw the rctank.de link but looks like cheaper to buy a Snow Leopard and take it apart for bits.

RE: HL S+S upgrade kits in the UK
Will get rid of the old plastic gearboxes and replace with some metal HL ones I have spare. Plan is to use the proportional smoke generator and a DBU/DBC kit I have. Need to replace the bad plastic gun barrel with a metal one first of all and see what is salvagable. There are enough T34 conversions around to help me convert it.

Basically I have a T34 I want to convert to S&S. Getting the S&S upgrade seemed the easiest thing to do. Have spare gearboxes and enough electronics knowledge to do the rest.

I did look at the individual parts and found it's cheaper to buy a new tank. Such is the throw away world we live in now :) Might have to go for the £39 snow Leopard then to get the parts. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/136420 Thanks everyone.

HL S+S upgrade kits in the UK
Does anyone know where I can get a HL smoke and sound upgrade kit? The one that turns the old non-proportional one into the newer proportional one. Ebay used to have a few but haven't seen any for ages. The only place I can find them is here: http://www.rctank.de/product_info.php?products_id=245 And it has "the first one like on the picture and the second one almost weld" Bad English as i'm not sure what this means. Any pointers would be great.

Will PM you but not sure if I can make this now. My brother might not be able to get the weekend off work now. Not a problem but a colleague at work has decided to get married on the Friday so I maybe a bit hungover Sat morning and not feel like driving several hours down to Bovington. I really wanted to meet up with everyone too and already took the Friday off work.

CHAIRPERSON MAO seems a good title. I pity the fool that gets ALISTAIR DARLING. There is always Kim Jung Il and Che Guevara. Don't we only need insurance from the BMFA if we are using BB's. I'm sure we wouldn't need insurance if we were just using IR and battle systems.

RE: charger for spektrum dx6
I accidently plugged a Futaba charget into my DX6. I got 'lucky' and just blew the battery, got really got and almost melted the battery compartment. Still is very deformed and hard to close though. I do recommend getting larger batteries, got 2600's over the standard batts and makes a hell of a difference. Still got the DX6 voltage regulator mod to do. And put the aerial in the Tx body.

I vote for campsite without tents or possibly a B&B. I don't do tents :) Don't think C will ever be an option. We maybe able to fight our tanks on their grounds but not stay on them.

RE: U.K Tank club
I'm happy to build a few basic 1/16 structures. Got some old playwood and MDF in the shed. Thanks for the charger info. The Whitemead site looks good. If you had a few bookings from the same group then you could probably get some land off the owners for battles, it is off peak season so I can't see why not. As for Bovington, they maybe happy for us to have a battle onsite as long as people could spectate, they gain as we buy tickets and they get promotion from it. People over 16 are fine, it's under 16's where issues creep in, especially if the parents haven't met anyone before. I help with a robot club and unless someone has a CRB check then it is really hard to look after under 16 year olds.

I have a few 12V high capacity batteries (few hundred amps discharge) that can be used for a battery charger. Does anyone have a Propeak charger, one of the clever ones that does Lipo, NiMh and Nicad. Autosenses cell count. I was going to get one but not sure what voltage they run off.

Isn't putting IR down a bit specific? People might want to fight with BB's in the future. For example if someone had private land then you can fight without Public Liability insurance as long as everyone agrees (and wear masks).

RE: U.K Tank club
Have been watching this thread with interes as I'm in Reading and can make that weekend for Bovington. Also see there are quite a few tank builders around me. Currently I have 2 HL Tigers and 1 HL Snow Leopard. Got a WSN T34 to convert to better electronics. Got 2 DBU/DBC kits to install, 1 for a tiger and depending on the conversion, one for the T34. There is already a UK Tank Club: http://uktankclub.star-one.co.uk/default1.htm They mainly deal with large 1/6 scale tanks. Best to have a different name to avoid confusion. I like the 16th armoured division, i'd change it to the 1/16th armoured division :)
