Global Ricochet Kit
Hello all, I picked up a partially assembled Ricochet with the instruction book but no plans or fuselage boom. If anyone out there can supply the info on the tail boom length and cg from the leading edge of the wing I would be grateful. Many thanx and happy flyin', Oscar

RE: Maybe the Tower Hype is True?
On July 20th I placed an order to Tower on line early in the morning. Later in the day I remembered something I had forgotten so I called to see if they could add it to the order, the customer rep told me the the order had already been dispatched to shipping so they shipped the extra parts on a separate order at no additional shipping charge. That is one reason I enjoy dealing with Tower. Happy flyin', Oscar

Heathkit Thumbtach help!
Hello all, I went to use my trusty old Thumbtach the other day and it did not function, I assumed the battery was dead and took the housing apart to replace it and found the red (+) wire from the battery had broken off from the circuit board. Does anyone out there have a Heathkit Thumbtach model GD-69 that they could post a photo of the circuit board showing the attachment point of this wire as I don't have a schematic. Many Thanks. RE: Obscure Perry Carb Feature
ORIGINAL: earlwb The fuel pump provides for more pressure than muffler pressure does. Generally the pump carbs have a larger bore inside as the pump provides the fuel instead of the engine sucking the fuel. Plus they have a slightly different mid range trim in the carb to account for the extra fuel pressure too. The fuel tank is rarely inline with the carb as it is usually a little lower. So then the plane goes inverted the fuel flow increases causing the slight rich running condition. The fuel pump tends to aggravate the situation. So yes the slide valve would work for that. But the carbs are setup for pumps, so you probably wouldn't find a non-pump Perry carb with that feature on it.
The reason I asked is a friend of mine has an old K&B, I think it's a .60 or .61? with this carb and pump but the pump is shot so he set it up with exhaust pressure to the tank, it runs fine when upright and stationary but as soon as he points the aircraft vertical it quits and when it is held inverted it goes blubbering rich. I think he's looking for the K&B carb. Happy flyin' Oscar

RE: Obscure Perry Carb Feature
earlwb, Do you think this feature will work on a engine set up not using a pump but using the exhaust pressure to the tank? Or, is the pump pressure greater than exhaust pressure as the pump is driven by crankcase pressure? Thanx, Oscar

RE: Auto Pilot and the death of R/C
ORIGINAL: saraholt61 Auto pilot is coming-we have the technology and I believe it will ultimately destroy the hobby. Miniature programmable microprocessors imbedded in the receiver that will enable anybody with just minor programming skills to give instructions to the servos to enable the plane to take-off, fly a specified route and even land by itself. By controlling the engine RPM and control surfaces you will be able to taxi down the runway and after reaching a specified ground speed activate the elevator for a smooth controlled take-off. Once in the air the plane can be put through maneuvres or just float around making circles until it is programmed to land. Beacons can be positioned at either ends of the runway to locate the boundaries of the field or the transmitter can have a beacon which directs the plane to land within a preset distance from the pilot. Sounds incredible? Its actually quite easy to achieve. You can also have an override switch to make changes in its course or if you decide, you can choose to fly the plane yourself. Will this technology take all the fun out of flying model airplanes? Probably, but you can t stop technology-and one day we all might look back and laugh about the good old days when pliots had to actually fly the planes manually!!!
You're full of crap!

RE: RX cooling
I'm with JohnBuckner on this, With the advent of 2.4 Ghz all manufacturers that I have seen, in instructions for their recievers recommend not wrapping the unit. This is because the voltage regulator may overheat thus the need for airflow through the fuselage. The rx operates at about 2.5 volts regardless of the input voltage 4.8 or 6. Wrapping is ok for 72 Mhz or 27 Mhz NOT 2.4 Ghz. Happy flyin' Oscar

RE: SIG FOURSTAR 120 Opinion
ORIGINAL: mdrchef Has anyone recently bought a Sig Four Star 120 kit? If so how was your wood cutting especially in respect for the ribs? I just opened my kit that I bought over the holiday and while the plywood was lazer cut the balsa ribs were not. In fact the ribs were die stampped and only about 1/3 of the way through the wood making it necessary to cut all ribs individually with an Xacto knive. I paid $165 for a kit that is very poorly cut and in fact looks like it was stored someware for about 15 years.
I purchased my 4*120 in feb 2010, everything in the kit was just about perfect except the ailerons needed a little sanding to straighten them. I chose to sheet the leading edges and will sheet the aft cockpit turtledeck. Happy flyin', Oscar

RE: Concrete Field Tables
The per table cost for our tables came out to about $50.00 although the cinder blocks were donated. We used a local company called Carry- Crete that utilises one and two yard mixers on a trailer, they add the components at their location and you tow it to your location to pour. As we have a pavillion with a concrete slab at our airfield we were able to fabricate our tables on site. Happy flyin', Oscar

RE: Concrete Field Tables
Here are some pix at my clubs flying field, we just did these this last summer. Easy to build, 2x4 lumber forms 3'x6' Five tables need about 1 1/4 yards concrete. A couple of 5' pieces of 1/2" rebar per table. Use 1" or 1 1/4 od PVC tubing 12 to 18" long for restraints with black insulation for padding. Install female fittings in the concrete for the restraints to fit into. Visqueen on a flat surface with the form on top. These babies are kind of heavy ( took six of us to lift each one) They will probably last forever. We figured some archaelogist will dig them up in six thousand years and think they were human sacrificial altars. Happy flyin' Oscar

RE: convert nitro to glow gas
Enya now has a engine that uses gasoline as fuel that requires a special glow plug and a special premix oil that has an agent that interacts with the glow plug. The oil is quite expensive and the resulting cost is near or more expensive than methanol/ nitro fuel. Happy flying, Oscar
ORIGINAL: rinnander John, I have 2 RCV .91 4 stroke that I bought for this plane, for some reason I do not like the nitro type engines. I put one of the RCV in a F4U CMP model it works well but messy with the excess oil.
Are you running the proper amount of lubricant with your RCV? One of the guys at my local field flies a .91 RCV and I notice it runs pretty clean. I think he's running about 15% synthetic lube with very little castor blend. I think they are interesting engines, all the advantages of a four stroke with no valves to bother with and the external dimensions of a two stroke. Happy flyin', Oscar
