RE: My friend and I want to build a first kit together
Go with the "Chippy" !! They are an easy build & fly extremely well. On landing it will have to come in a little "hot" compared to the 4*. Mine has lasted me going on 3 yrs. ( It must be an easy plane to fly) hahaha

RE: What Made You Quit Flying Helis
We had a guy at our field that would bring his heli out & for an hour he would tinker with it to get it going. Then would "fly it" ( up & downup & down.") Usually something would break & it would crash ( it wouldn't be a hard crash") cause he wouldn't get over 10ft high !! It would be a couple of weeks (waiting on parts). Then he would do it all over again. Just didn't seem like fun to me !!!! Different strokes for different folks , I guess.

RE: What Made You Quit Flying Helis
Expense is a big thing. However, to me, the "BIG REASON" I would never ever even attempt to fly one of those things is safety !!!!! When you see one of your best pilots in your club "loose his heli" & watch it go into the adjacent cornfield @ 5ft & "detassel the corn for about 20ft. It looked like a person just went in there with a machetee & cut it down !!! It wasn't his fault, he would ALWAYS double check everything. Scince then, when a heli comes to the field, I leave !!!! They are extremely dangerous!!!!!!

RE: First crash - need help
Hi Scratchie ! You oughta think about going to a "60" size. They are much easier to see & they will be easier to fly ! sounds like you're on the right path with your plane. Like Hugger said, the hydra-lock is caused by too much fuel in the firing chamber. One thing to remember though. When it happens & you remove the glow plug & use the starter to turn over the engine.- Don't have your face over the engine, you will get a face full of nasty tasting fuel. Don't ask how I know !!!! good luck

RE: Flyboy Models
ggraham500 is totally right. "most of the Chinese" ARFs are not the best made planes; however, I've had a couple of them & they fly great! The instructions suck !! Always, always go through all glue joints you can see & "reglue" or "reinforce". Most of the hardware for them are not of the "quality" needed for extreme flying that some guys do. For the everyday flier like myself, I have found the hardware to be suffeceint. (spelling) for my type of flying. In short, I think we get what we pay for !!!!

RE: Carl Goldberg extra 300 engine
If you are "very new" to building & flying WHY are you even thinking of tangleing with an Extra with no less a gas engine??????? If you had experience in flying you would know the answers to your questions. When learning this hobby, the BIGGEST favor you can do yourself is keep it simple & reasonably priced. You see there is a "learning curve" that will take it's share of equipment. If the equipment is simple to repair & reasonably priced,it makes it a lot easier to stay in the hobby !!! Good Luck

RE: Fuse mod questions ?
I would think, as long as you keep the incedence the same & everything" lined up",you would be OK. My question is, "why"? I think by making the fus longer, wouldn't you be making the plane manuever even slower? I'm no expert, just my thoughts !!

RE: 1 st low wing
I've had both the 40 & 60 4*s. You're right, the 4*s tend to "float" on landing. I didn't do it when I built the "40", but did on the "60". I put in an extra hinge on the ailerons. I flew it a few times with the "full wing". I then cut off one bay of the wing on each side. The "floating" on landing was gone !!! It also, increased the "roll rate" substantially. That was the best mod I could've ever done !

RE: When to retire a plane
My planes never make it to "retirement" !!! I think as my planes get "long in the tooth", I tend not to "concentrate" as I should & end up doing something stupid. However, I do enjoy flying them while I have them. Year before last, I put 4 planes in, last yr none, & this year 1. I usually fly 2 to 3 times a week,so, I get my "money's worth".

RE: 1 st low wing
Sounds to me like you're describing the SIG 4* series, 40 or 60 size. I've had both sizes & both are the easiest flying planes I've had !! The "60" might be a little more forgiving than the "40". The kits allow you to do sooo many mods. It really makes building one a blast !!! Do a search here on RCU & you'll find a never-ending supply of ideas. Good Luck !!

All kidding aside, my wife really doesn't care what RC stuff I buy. Before I retired, my hobby was building street rods. I guess she figures that this is a whole lot cheaper, definitly not as dirty & a lot less aggrivations. I've got a jewel in my wife (46 yrs) as she never has given me a hassel about my hobbies. In the same respect, I've never went overboard either.

RE: CG .60 Super Chipmunk
Originally, I had a Super Tiger "60" in it. I ended up putting ST "75" & am very happy with it's extra power. ( Check my little note @ the bottom of thread) I didn't weigh it at all. I don't like the wing mounted landing gear & put my LG on the fus right in front of the wing. I beefed up that area when I built it for that very reason. I always use the fiberglass tape to beef up the wing & use fiberglass resin instead of epoxy. ( It's a LOT easier to sand & is just as strong. I also, use the fiberglass tape all around the wing saddle. It doesn't ad that much weight & I feel the extra strength is worth it. We have a grass airstrip & uh, sometimes my landings are not the smoothest. I went the extra 35 bucks & bought a fiberglass Specialties cowl. I absolutly hate those factory ABS things !! If I could figure out how to download a pic, I'd do it. Oh, well. Good luck with your "Chippy"

RE: CG .60 Super Chipmunk
I finished my CG "Chippy" a couple of yrs ago. It was a fairly easy build. As long as ya follow the instructions, you'll not have a problem. One thing I did that I wouldn't do again was to fully sheet the wing, ( makes it too heavy ) other than that, it's a very fun plane to fly.
