RE: C-17 lands at small GA airport in Tampa by mistake
ORIGINAL: flyinwalenda What news article stated a General was on board?
The line guys at TPF observed him exiting the aircraft.

C-17 lands at small GA airport in Tampa by mistake

RE: C-17 lands at small GA airport in Tampa by mistake
ORIGINAL: larrysogla I doubt that C17 damaged the paved runway because the C17 is designed to spread the weight over many square foot of ground pressure.........hence the ability to land and offload main battle tanks that weigh 70 tons(140,000 lbs.) with full fuel and ammo and the tank is ready to fight as soon as it is driven off the C17 rear ramp...........this combat delivery of main battle tanks is done close to the front battle line in bulldozed scrub land without the wheels bogging down in the dirt. A regular airliner will get bogged down in dirt runways due to the high ground pressure as the airliners are designed for paved runways. With modern Navigation/Electronics I doubt that C17 landed on the wrong airport..........considering the General Aviation runway was only 3,250 ft. long and the military field at McDill is 11,500 feet.............big difference.............I still am hazarding a guess that the 4 star general wanted dropped off in the local area...............rank has it's privileges. 'Nuff said. Larry.
Nah, i doubt that the general would want to be dropped of there...it's only a twelve minute ride by car from Macdill to Davis Island the political ramifications ( notice all the flashing lights and cameras ?) would have gotten his arse chewed by that guy in the white house, what's his name again?? I forget.... I think Tampa approach handed him off to Macdill, Macdill tower said "report field in sight", he did...the cleared him for a visual on 22 and he did.....the wrong 22....They where on a 17 hour flight from Asia somewhere and i think it was just an honest mistake. Also, the fact that the AMW dispatched a critical intervention team would indicate that as well.... There was no damage to the runway....

RE: congratultions, Tower Hobbies
ORIGINAL: MetallicaJunkie gravesrc.com is pretty good
I gave up on Tower when it started to take 2 days to ship an order. I can order from Graves and have it the next day. Since i'm in Tampa and they are in Orlando, every once in a while I'll take a ride up there. Great help, great inventory, and above all...this sounds stupid...but it smells like a hobby shop should (glue, paint, and nitro)....
ORIGINAL: BarracudaHockey That sounds like fun! Can I put floats on a chopper? :D
Sure !!...I've done it before...you just have to be on the tail rotor when you spool it up...otherwise it will immediately start spinning in the water until you get enough RPM's on the tail rotor for the gyro to correct it....it's a little scary the first time...

RE: If a treasurer of an AMA club were to steal a large amount of money, what action should take place?
ORIGINAL: Tampaflyer but what are you getting for your money... eventually thats all you'll get from any member. I PAY MY DUES >> TO HECK WITH WHAT HAPPENS ... when you breed that attitude of i'll just pay my dues and fly,  THE CLUB LOSES. why voulenteer.... why try to reqruit new members.... why promote the club.... why promote the hobby.... why socialize..... I JUST PAY MY DUES AND FLY. and don't worry , those people will find a new club and those will pass on and the club will pass on too. SO , don't be accountable, don't inspire a new group with new ideas, and DRIVE off anyone that may have helped.... YOU TOO WILL BECOME AS OBSOLETE AS THE BUGGY WHIP.
I disagree. I do volunteer..I was out there rebuilding the shelters after a wind storm tore the roof off. I gave a teenage student pilot who couldn't afford it a complete ready to fly airplane, radio and fieldbox, stocked with tools and a starter that I paid for out of my own pocket. I'm also an instructor (intro pilot as well) and regularly bring co-workers, their kids, friends, relatives...yadda..yadda...out there to spark an interest. The difference is, I'm not going to get my panties all in a wad over this thing. I'd rather direct the thought process towards moving past it..... I could also make the argument that the only people driving new guys off are the folks that corner the new members at the field and try to push their agenda on them because they disagree with the current leadership...that's cancer man...nobody wants to hear that crap. I know I don't...you bring me a solution ?? I'll listen...all you are doing is complaining but can't offer anything ?? go pound sand buddy..I'm here to get my flying fix and I'm out.....
ORIGINAL: Tampaflyer WOW, feeling threatned, strike a nerve... I SEE THAT FREINDLY BCF atmosphere shining through. BUt as it shows on your website... first line ..you pride yourselfs on that welcoming , club.... any clud that has to state that 1st line is touchy about it. O but wait you can't even get in unless someone lets you in. Good luck to your club...AND don't do anything to lose the property.. as you have no money to move.... but i just pay my dues .
LOL...no, not "not threatened" at all....just trying to be fair about it..I like a good debate.. The access issue is not by choice. You should know that already...if you did...that's the same FUD campaign that gets your faction nowhere with me and as I believe, most of the standing membership.... Like I said...there are many other options in the area.....nobody is MAKING you stay if you are so unhappy with the product being offered.

RE: If a treasurer of an AMA club were to steal a large amount of money, what action should take place?
ORIGINAL: dakota97 So, What are your thoughts on this happening over the course of 5+ years with no checks and balances ? Should there be any legal consequences and to whom? Budgets may be tight but the law does not change.
Don't get me wrong, I agree that the accused should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. I'm just telling you that from a LE perspective that this kind of thing is happening EVERYWHERE right now and is one of hundreds of complaints filed every month. There are only so may resources available to address them. It will take time; that's not the club leadership's fault. As far as holding the leadership accountable, sure...they made a mistake. Pick up the pieces, admit and correct the mistake and move on. If somebody who can build a better mousetrap comes along next year or the following year and can DEMONSTRATE it with more than empty rhetoric and very obvious BITTER resentment for the current administration AND has the time and wants to do it, hell..there might be a new president. I'm not aware of anybody in the current membership who can offer me that as a voting member...so I'll stick with what I have; it works fairly well for me. It's not rocket science.

RE: If a treasurer of an AMA club were to steal a large amount of money, what action should take place?
I'm pretty much happy with it. I follow the rules and have never had to be "put in my place"....I don't see that as a problem and I have been a member for almost 10 years. For what it costs me a year, the end product I get is exceptional !!! I believe the majority of the membership at large feels the same way, hence the results of last months meeting. Like I said...it's a model airplane club, not a billion dollar corporation. I'm sorry you feel the way you do....really...but there are other options in the area for excellent facilities if you don't like what you are getting for your money....

RE: If a treasurer of an AMA club were to steal a large amount of money, what action should take place?
ORIGINAL: dakota97 It must be nice to have a field run with such transparency and accountability. We have had the same President for the past 8+ years. Apparently his friend of 15 years was the Treasurer. During this time, there was never a CPA, Accountant etc. to look at our books on a monthly or yearly basis. The majority of the members do not know what our status is with the IRS either. At the last meeting, the members voted to prosecute the Treasurer for the 50K plus theft. Nearly a month has passed and still no Arrest. We have monthly meetings and when issues arise, he usually stacks the meeting with members that think he walks on water so nothing changes. Last month, they voted the same slate of Officers in once again. I know more members need to get involved. How do you motivate them to do that? We fly on Gov't owned property and it is one of the best fields I have ever seen. 2 runways with all the amenities! It seems we have a 5 year lease which I believe ends at the end of this year. Once again, there is no report at the meetings that pertain to our status. The Prez also wants one voice with our landlords. His. Reactive Management seems to be the rule of the day. 250 plus members in this club. Most act like sheep.............
"We fly on Gov't owned property and it is one of the best fields I have ever seen. 2 runways with all the amenities!" And why is that ? The backstory is relevent in a public forum. I was at the meeting. When it was asked if anybody wanted to step up and take the helm, you could have heard a pin drop. Everybody wants to criticize, but nobody wants to take the responsibility...for the right reasons..everybody who has run against the current president has only done so out of DISLIKE for him...NOT because they have a better idea. I'm happy with the club...sure we got screwed...and some mistakes where made...but the folks involved CALLED ME AT HOME to inform me..and to admit they screwed up. I'm good with that. It's a friggen model airplane club, not Microsoft. oh, and economic crimes ?? Way low on the priority list...the Sheriff of the this particular county is having to go to the State to force the county commissioners NOT to cut his budget any more than they have...get used to it.....

RE: I've apparently hit the wall....
ORIGINAL: MetallicaJunkie I wish i could say the same....... Why dont you sell the ones you dont enjoy
Two reasons..at any given time, I enjoy THEM ALL !! ....plus the hassle of trying to sell a decent size plane with shipping and all....the local folks here wont' even look at anything less than an Aeroworks or Carden somethin-somethin at a give-away price..I'd just as soon GIVE them to a newbie who can appreciate what they are.....but they are few...I've been trying to give away a complete trainer rig (it's uuggggglllllyy..but COMPLETE turnkey) for 2 years.... Recently, I tried to GIVE away an old school Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 with a low time OS 1.08 in it to a guy at one of the clubs I belong to; he declined.....don't get me wrong...it needs some serious time with a Monokote iron..but it flys straight as an arrow and runs great. Somebody gave it to me so it's no net loss to me. Soon I will unbolt the 1.08 and crush what remains. It won't be the first time. Something is wrong with this picture. [:o] Maybe it should be part of a nARF thread......
