RE: Norvel Engine FAQ
Hello all: I have a Kamdax mirage 2000 model with the ducted fan glow engine. The engine is supposed to be the same as the norvel 0,9 engine On take off, I had to abort twice as the plane was not getting enough speed and would not go up.... I am using 30% nitro. I was thinking If I should go up to 40% nitro and remove the glow plug shim. I will fit it to the stand and use a normal small prop to see how many rpm I get with the actual 30% nitro fuel, and measure again with the 40% one Any other ideas??

Bill Northrop's Blanik plans and other
Hello all, After much searching for a 3 meter set of plans for a Blanik glider, I have only found a set of Chez plans made by Joroslav Rafa, of 3250mm wingspan. I downloaded plans from http://www.glidernet.com/Plan.htm But I have also read many people hace the old set of plans from Bill Northrop which must be more or less the same size. Does anyone have those plans in electronic format that could send them to me?? I would like to compare them before deciding which one I should attempt to build. I contacted kit cutters some time ago and said they where not producing anymore cnc kits for those plans. It would also be interesting to know of someone here has ever made the Chez model, and if someone had the opportunity to translate the manual. Best regards paco

RE: ThunderTiger P15 turbine spare parts problem
Hello all Although it's an old post I thought would be of interest to say that the P-15 engine was indeed a commercial engine, went into production and was sold worldwide. I my city, Madrid-Spain, there is a shop that still has a new one on the shelf, at a nice price of 2000 euro or similar.... Still with the same price as nearly 8 years ago when I first saw it in the shop. The shop owner gave me the opportunity to make lots of photos, including some photos with one of my jpx engines side by side to compare size. That is the only p-15 I have ever seen, and your friends engine is the first one I have heard off in private hands. This evening I will post some photos of the engine for the people who might be interested. paco

RE: Balsa USA Der Jager
An old spanish RC model company called Modelhob, now disappeared, made in the 80's a nice kit of the der jager. It was 1300mm wing span, and used a .40 2T engine or .60 4T. I have the plans if anyone is interested. I was lucky and last year found on ebay France a complete unbuilt kit for this model. Will be starting it shortly.

RE: Plans for Blanik L13
Hello all I am so interested in the Blanik and was considering making a 3 meter model. Does anyone have finished making the Bill Northrop model? I am specially interested in his model because the size is just perfect for my need, it´s 3.3 meter. Also, before I buy the plans or the laser kit, I will like to read the article on this model, that normally came with the plans. Could someone please make a copy or scan the article so I can take a look at it?? Best regards Paco

RE: Goldberg Ultimate Biplane Engine
Me too. Last year I found two Royal Kits at the rear of a hobby shop: the stuka and the mustang. Bought them the same day. Maybe in some years I will have the time to make them. Until then, I keep them safely in my house, and not in others house ;-) If you find a kit you really like, buy it. If you never build it just sell it of give it to a friend, and there's nothing worse than losing the opportunity. paco

RE: The Goldberg Ultimate biplane...is dead.
there's someone on the forum already making the cad drawings. But what it´s also important is that as the plan is not meant to scratch build the plane from zero, someone with a new kit should scan the formers, and some other parts that are difficult to measure on the plan.

RE: The Goldberg Ultimate biplane...is dead.
Finally I have bought an original engine mount for my of ft-120 gemini twin, so will fit the engine to the plane to verify the CG. Also I have made a trip today to the model shop and got some servos. I have finally got 2 futaba 3010 for the elevator, and a Graupner which for a price os 31eur (about $25) looks to be the best value, and I hope that as it´s a graupner item would be best quality, no?? http://aero-modelo.com/emisoras/servos/servo-graupner-5.html What do you think about this servo? Doubel ball bearing, metal gear, 0.11sec and 88Ncm at 4,8 volts. What would a futaba servo cost with this details??? For the ailerons I have some unused futaba 3001 and for the engine a standard 3003..... Paco

RE: Searching for plans for a small-medium size pitts special
hello Marwen Yes, of course i can print it. Of course I would rather like a plan that originally had the size I was looking for, but I can always scale a big one down.... I suppose small pitts special would have been very common some years ago, when big engines where too expensive and most used .25, .30, .40 size engines. my email pacombhl@wanadoo.es regards paco

Searching for plans for a small-medium size pitts special
Dear all, I am searching for a copy of original plans to build a glow pitts special. I was thinking in something small, arround 1 meter wingspan, such as the arf of robbe or kyosho. Could also be something less than 1 meter. I suppose that before the ARF years, there should be some good plans. I remember seeing in a hobby shop a 900mm pitts special from an owner who was changing the monocote, but had lost many years ago the original plans. The lit was beautiful. If any one has a pdf file would be much better, but if in original paper, I could just pay the cost of making a copy? anyway, such a small plane would have small plans I suppose. Regards paco

RE: The Goldberg Ultimate biplane...is dead.
You can always scratch build one with the plans, or take those plans to a laser kit cutter. Of course it´s always better to find a nib kit, but is that's impossible, you will always have the possibility to make it the old way! Do kit cutters need to pay fees for making kits out of an old plan?? Specially if the plan is old and no longer available.... For example, do kit cutters pay a fee to Zirolli?

RE: Northstar mods - Tell me what you think
Hi all I always wanted a NorthStar in my garage.... but just never got around it.... Last week in a spanish forum a guy published a thread with his NS, because hi wanted to sell it. It was 60% built from an original Balsa Usa kit. He has moved into big gasoline biplanes, so was not going to finish the NS. At 40 eur, that was a deal I could not miss.... The construction is well done because the owner had experience building kits, jut need to go over some seams, with fresh glue. I have read all the 11 pages, uffffffff, and have convinced my self of the following: -Will put 2 micro servo at the rear for the throttle and the elevator -Will be using a removable elevator surface for easy transportation -Fiber glass 2 layers on the button fuselage -Reinforce with some fiber glass the inside of the fuselage, where bulkheads glue to the lower part of the fuselage Still thinking how to cover it... monocote or painted fabric Just wondering, I have recently managed to get some used aluminum sheets used in big printer stores. They are very thin, possibly about 0,2mm. I use them to hold down delicate parts on my lathe. People use them to cover war birds planes. Could it be possible to put fiber glass on the button fuselage, and a sheet of aluminum?? would give a great looking, alu is strong, could give razor edges, and if wax applied would be great for grass takes off.... what do you think??? A picture of the actual situation of my plane. Paco

RE: The Goldberg Ultimate biplane...is dead.
Hello, what about this servo from futaba? http://shop.lindinger.at/product_info.php?cPath=1286_1316_1318&products_id=51423 Has nearly just the same torque as the Hitec, and weights about 11 grams less.... times two is 22 grams less... Dan, I think you ar now with your third Ultimate, so you must have a lot of experience.... What about the weight, is it a factor to be super meticulous, or not a problem??? Do you use the original piano wire landing gear or have changed to a alu/fiber landing gear? Finally, will the 3001 be ok for ailerons (I suppose yes), and specially for the rudder? Any other suggestion that I should take care about the plane? I have been told that a common problem is the part that hold both wings together, is attached to a small ply thing on the wings ribs and that it always tends to brake, so I have secure it with a double hand made aircraft quality ply rib. This is the first time I will fly a biplane, so I got a Kyosho Pitts Special to get my first feeling on bi-planes... It´s my first serious plane, with a serious engine (os flat twin), so overall is going to be an expensive plane... I will give the chance of the first flight to a friend who has much more experience on big planes...just in case!

RE: The Goldberg Ultimate biplane...is dead.
Bigal, I see in your photos that you have not installed the aluminum structure that hold the upper wing and you have already covered with balsa de front part..... I really feel you are going to have trouble now, as I dont see the way to tight the screws with the front part of the plane covered with balsa.... The instructions says clearly to tight firts the screws. Any reason you had to do it later??? Regards paco

RE: The Goldberg Ultimate biplane...is dead.
Hello Dan 70oz is 2 kilograms of torque, and the futaba 3001 has about 3.5kg. Is not that enough?? It´s true that some time ago I was thinking about installing 2 rear elevator servos, because I can mix them with the radio, for security, and the pushrods will be very short with no play or movement... very direct. But I was very concerned about weight. A normal servo weight about 40 grams, times two is about 90 grams.. Putting 90 grams of weight on the tail means I have to put maybe 250grams at the front to compensate and I have read many times to keep this plane very light as it is heavy... (I dont see it very heavy but thats what I have read)... What servos would you suggest for elevator and rudder with a very normal flight??? Bigal: can you please post the photo of your landing gear? I have heard the 4 stroke engines have more suction than 2 stroke. Anyway, the previous owner of the flat twin, soldered a pressure tube in one of the exhaust tubes, so I hope there should be no problem... If I finally decide to put the 2 elevator servos at the tail, then I might keep the rudder servo at it´s original position, to not add even more weight to the rear part of the plane. Regards paco

RE: The Goldberg Ultimate biplane...is dead.
If no more original kits become available, there is always de change of scratch building it, or taking the scanned plan to a Laser Cutter, who will make at least all the difficult parts. Paco

RE: The Goldberg Ultimate biplane...is dead.
Hi Bigal A quick photo of my plane. Will be in dark blue, with the underside of both wings and tail surface, red/white checker. And some yellow stripes over blue. I am really considering your servo location, as the distance with the tail will me shorter making a more precise link I suppose. Also it´s true that I can put the fuel under the CG and a larger tank. I have buy 5 futaba 3001 servos for the plane: good price and quality, and because I don’t make 3D, jut normal flight, I suppose installing stronger servos is a waste of money for me. At first, I was thinking on using an OS 91, but I came across with a os 120 flat twin, which should have the power of a OS91. The sound of the flat twin, should be incredible. A 3 blade propeller is a must!!! I will probably start with the normal glow plugs, and them pass to an electronic ignition. I was very concerned with the landing gear... I really donk like the huge piano wire it has, as in a hard landing you can seriously damage all the lower part of the plane. I would rather use a normal fiber glass one, with 3 5mm nylon screws.... Just wondering, I see that for the pull-pull system, you have used the standard servo 2 arm. This is my first pull-pull and what I have read is that both cables must run parallel, but If I use the standard servo 2 arm, it is smaller than the size of the rear 2 horns, and the cables won’t run parallel. Any idea???

RE: The Goldberg Ultimate biplane...is dead.
Hello Bigal Why have you put the rudder and elevator servo in that position?? Are you going to use a heavy engine?? Because if you put the servos in that position I suppose it will be tail heavy, no??? Anyway I like the idea. My plane is more or less in the same construction stage... Has any one used a flat twin 120 on this plane? Regards paco

I suppose it could be a good business for someone to make fiber glass fuselages. Just wondering, is it possible to make for an airplane like this, ie: biplane, to make foam wings?? The ply parts that join the 2 wings would make it structurally difficult I suppose. Paco

RE: The Goldberg Ultimate biplane...is dead.
Hello all, It is sad that CG has discontinued the Ultimate kit plane, as it was one of the really few classic kits available. And it´s one of the most beautiful biplanes around. I have one that I will be finishing in the next months. When I stated building it, I was intelligent and made a copy of the original plans, so always been working over the copy plans. I want to scan the original plans, for my personal library, and of course for any one interested in building the plane from the plan. But I was stupid not to make photocopies of all the important parts, as the original plan does not show them. Has anyone that have buyed a recent kit, scanned or copied the formers, bulkheads, wing spars, etc??? joining forces we could make a zip file both with the original plan, and all the scanned parts. That way, in the future, anyone could build one. Any help???

Looking for the person who posted these fix pod images
Hello all So time ago, I found on the internet some images of a very interesting way to make a removable fix pod for a sailplane. I would like to ask some questions to the owner as it may be very interesting for a near future proyect, but I have been spending many hours trying to find the web page from where I got them, with no success. I would like to know if it was a kit, it scratch made, materials, performance, etc.... Maybe if someone see´s the photo, he can foward me to the correct web page, if exists. I have been looking on rcgroups and rcuniverse, but nothing... Any help? Best regards!!!

Hello all, I suppose this should be the correct subforum to ask the question I have always wondered if there are comertial RC planes made on aluminium and not in balsa/plywood. I found a spanish company that makes this kind of metal planes, and was wondering if there is any other out there... They are expensive and come ARF, but the 800 eur focker wolf could be a possible airplane in some time althought I would like to see on first. http://alumodel.com/htm_en/inicio.htm# Any other sites I could visit??? I suppose that making a DIY alum plane would be out of normal possibility, stamping all the parts, and cutting and folding would be difficult Regards. Paco
