RE: Horizon Hobby could not help me with Saito trouble, what do I do?
I would urge you to hang in there with Horizon Hobby. They have always been first class with me and, while I haven't addressed a Saito problem with them, they have ALWAYS followed up with other supplier issues I have asked them to review.

RE: EVO 45cc Fueling problem
Before going to the field I fueled and once again it leaked into the crankcase!@#$%^%$#![:@] Opened the check valve side of the carb and noticed the membrane was OPEN over the fuel cavity(can't see the forest for the trees sometimes) along with the gasket. Unfortuneately, the proper membrane was the blue plastic film(used, I assume, for methonal fuels) but I used it anyway. Apparently the black one was for another model carb in the WT series of carbs(mine is a WT455). Fueled again and everything OK[:D]. Went to the field and started the engine with idle settings set at factory recommendations and idle was good but rich and high end was rich and died. Leaned it out(HEnd) twice(total of 1/2 turn) and it began to "sing" for like 15-20sec. then get erractic; would not deaccelerate without dieing. Leaned the Lend out and it helped a little but mid and low end suffered and would die at idle. Think I have a height problem with the needle fulcrum. I do apologize about the membrane error...just replaced with the same material not wanting to switch to the blue material and did not notice it was configured differently.

RE: EVO 45cc Fueling problem
That's the way I have it(both assemblies) and it checks against the old assemblies. Equally true, what is being said about the needle being open must be true so I exercised it. It would not close on a consistent basis; kept hanging open. Cleaned the bore where the needle goes and operation improved dramicaly. It always amazes me how little it takes to screw up one of these things and how it doesn't happen to often. Suppose I should change needle and seat but, then I have to worry about the setting, and I really do not want to go through THAT!! Tryout tomorrow and will post what happens. Thx, Ed [&o]

EVO 45cc Fueling problem
Long story but I replaced the diaphram and check valve membrane on the WALBRO carb mounted to my Evolution 45cc gasser(reed valve). Now when I fuel it, the gas goes into the carb from the fueling line while also filling the tank. I use a 3-way "TEE" for fueling. Some goes to the tank also but mostly after filling the crankcase through the pressure vent to the carb. Pulled the carb and noticed the needle had a slight amount of "crap" on it(maybe the initial problem???) keeping the needle from seating so I cleaned it & the seat then reinstalled(needle/seat looked good, did not replace). Refueled and the same problem. The fuel goes immediately to the carb with no resistance at all. Almost like the diaphram isn't working at all or a check valve(?) isn't working correctly. Any thoughts.

OS 46fx
This one is driving me crazy! The engine runs fine in my 4star will starting up(perhaps a little rich) and throttles well in mid and high range. When I take off, the engine will die(usually on the first flight) after about 50 to 100' high. Does not make a difference how steep or shallow the climb. I've changed fuel tanks, fuel tubing, and went back to my 10% nitro fuel(w/caster oil) after using 15% synethic. All to no avail. I've even changed engines and thought I had it but the problem resurfaced after the 4th flight. The fuel tank is about 1/4" below the needle valve(double checked). When I get the plane after dead sticking, the fuel line to the carb is empty. When I get more than one flight(rarely) it runs rich. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thx, Ed

Increasing size(scaling up) of an airfoil
I'm going to scale up my 4 Star(SIG) plans from a 40 size to a 120 size; just love that airplane! My question is, in scaling the size up 33-1/3% what effect does that have on the wing airfoil??? I realize that increasing size does not have a 1:1 relationship with the various stress factors which can increase exponetially (I can deal with that) but what I'm not sure about is if the shape of the airfoil can be increased linearly without having -/+ issues. Fortunately the 4* has a constant cord and root thickness wing so blowing up the size and construction should be easy although, I will probably convert to barndoor ailerons from the designed strip style. I realize wing kits are available, but part of the fun with this hobby is the journey as well as the destination. Thank[:D]s, Ed[ul] [*] [*] [*] [/ul]

ZIPPER question
For years I've wanted a Goldberg ZIPPER and recently aquired drawings for same(54" WS). I've started to build and was going to put a radio in it for some lazy summer afternoon flying when it occurred to me that maybe I won't need a full 3 channels. Looking at the tail feathers, it would seem to make a lot better sense to put in a receiver/servos for just throttle and rudder. Not a lot of room back there and I'm not really sure I need elevator control anyway. While I have never seen one fly, I told they climb like a bat out of hell anyway; landings can't be that bad(famous last words!) Anyone have any personal experience here??? Thx in advance, Ed

RE: Construction Article Peashooter
Hello - I was looking thru a Peashooter search and you inquiry pop'd up. I have a copy of the articile and would send it to you if your still interested. If you found the articile and built it, I would be interested in how it turned out and how it flys(flew??). Note that the construction articile says to include 1" of washout when you build the wings.
