RE: Fokker DR1 triplane ARF or Kit??
Geoff, I always look at it like this: I’m willing to build, or prepare an ARF for flight, on something I want to fly. I will throw together an ARF of something I would like to fly. I just so happen to have a GP Fokker Dr1, I bought because it was a plane I wound like to fly and if I did not act the opportunity was lost. It has several problems: The main spar in the lower wing is balsa so every time it goes over on a wing it has to be inspected for a broken spar. Broke it twice so far, usually when I forget it is a top heavy, short coupled create with a mind of its own ( and it lets me fly it, and my inputs are just suggestions, it decides weather to react appropriately or not). For a minute there I thought my wife was calling! The second is the landing gear squirrel cage provided no shock absorption and was painted and crimped. The crimps have all spun and to solder them the paint has to be removed from all parts so my landing gear are getting real loosy goosy. But now it provides some shock absorption. Pay your $$$$ and take your chances. Joe

RE: retract valve and setup question
A6TEXAN those are KMP original retracts see the link below for my set: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_2125053/anchors_2125053/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#2125053 mine flew twice. first time in a 8.5# p-51D the blue anodized parts bent like pretzels. the secind time in a 6.25# me 109 and they bent like pretzels yet again. prior to flying the cylinders leaked while between stops, the actuation valve works with a tee, you'll have to play with it to figure out which hose goes where. they are air up spring down. I hope you did not pay allot for them? Joe

RE: Parkzone NEW Messerschmitt Bf-109G PNP and BNF
The streamer was only able to withstand 80mph. Any faster and it would remove its self so the throttle stick would only get the plane to 80 then I would have to hit a wired in spring loaded switch when I had some one behind me and the D-9 would walk away. Just like GM1 boost! The video I’ve viewed many times for the building of my CMP Me 109, specifically the placement of the spoiler on landing. I love the slip (me 109 patented end of turn tail loop) on landing and all the bouncing. Joe

RE: Parkzone NEW Messerschmitt Bf-109G PNP and BNF
Doug, the D-9 is a RS Combat (made in the chek republic) for a while they were imported by Waverly models. It was a great kit, fiberglass fuse sheeted foam wings. Mine is covered with silk span and dope. With a slightly modified 25 it would do 134mph with a 36in ws, brings new meaning to the words buz bomb. The one I converted to electric flyies at about the same speed as the me 109 Fomies don’t do well on the catapult! I flew my tower pro 2915-5T, 36amp speed control and 3s0p battery me 109 today with some of the other guys that have me109’s and for the first time in 18 flights I was able to perform = to theirs. RE: Parkzone NEW Messerschmitt Bf-109G PNP and BNF
Well on Wednesday the model nosed in hard on a landing, the runway is heaving abit so one has to land in the center and I landed to close to me. After the nose in the motor made a clicking noise, it still put out good power but clicked. I tore it down and nothing was broken but with the spinner, back plate, prop and hub off the motor still made the clicking noise. I grabbed the can, while still in the plane and tried to move it and it seamed to go away. I figured I had picked up some dirt and I knocked it out. Friday it started fine and 7 minutes into the flight the motor stopped. After landing it smelled like burnt electronics and the prop was locked up. When the engine was removed I realized that the plastic part of the can, the top (plastic), was solid but the bottom (aluminum), was moving just by hand. not much but enough to make it turn real hard. I’ve replaced it with a tower pro 2915-5T I had on the shelf and will give it a try tomorrow. I had a few flights on the new battery before the motor burned up and the power was much better than with the original battery, moot point now. Joe

RE: Retracts .
Mechanical – can not lift the wt of air so 10oz tires are out. Retracting needs to be done in 1G flight. Air/Spring – gives the wt lifting capability of air so you can lift a heavy scale wheel. It gives you the peace of mind that the gear will come down. But you pay for that by having to deal with the gear down during storage. I deal with this by blocking the gear up into the wing for storage. After a few years I had to re-oil the cylinders because the retract would not come down reliably. I have three pair of these two in the box and one on a plane with thousands of flights. Air/Air – great lifting capability. Will allow for scale retract speed down AND UP. While these retracts will fail if air is lost I’ve had very good luck with them just ground checking. I have 12 of these all in airplanes, my oldest set is air/air with thousands of flights on them. I’ve had the same number of failures between air/air, air/spring, and mech its just that the failure point changes. So if I where you get what you want and learn the failure points for that one and enjoy! Joe

RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
the other flap servo is pretty std. but here it is. the aileron servo had some side mounting tabs so alittle managers tape and some screws and away we go.

RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
Well I’ve put this off about as long as I could… so its time to set up the flaps and the spoileron. To make this work the way I have it envisioned the glycol cooler flap (GCF) will act as part of the auto temp control so as I increase the T off idle the GCF and spoiler will open about the width of the opening under the wing. Then when the flaps are deployed when the CGF comes down the spoileron follows it down. To do this I needed to mount two servos in the GCF cover and the pictures below will show how I intend to do this. The two servos were cleaned then bonded together with R6000 from A.C. Moore, then clamped for drying with a C-clamp. Then add a pull tie just incase the bond gives way. Joe

RE: WARBIRDS Over Chenango Bridge - Binghamton NY
I'm building a CMP me109 and in the tread for that there are meny that have said their 109 was crashed by the spinner flying off it. with no explanation how a spinner could have caused this, now we know. if they did not head right for the field they did not have a functioning prop and stalled. warbird 1 i hope to take some pic's of you AT-6 next year. Joe this is finally the end.

Sunday I have video on my camera but i have to use the screen on the back of the camera. hope to get the advantage of the optics but not sure i can use it holding it out infront of me like that. i really have not looked at video cam's yet but it is good to see 43mm telescoping (i think, internal) lens on a video cam.
